  • Hey! Just became aware of this device. Awesome work! Just curious what is your background (ie computer science, EE)?

  • You had me at hello...

  • Can you link a proper emulator to this device most recommended?

  • wow real cartridge on a standard emulator! just great! but does the retrode save the game inside the cartridge? if we return to a real console? and is it working on android?

    ole last thing?

game with special chips work too?

  • @Tailslol If emulator and device are configured correctly, the Retrode can write saves back to the cartridge (it's write-protected by default, though). I'm demoing this functionality in another (prehistoric) video /watch?v=QNBg_jWjBmI&t=6m0s at around 6:00.

For special chips, please check FAQ and the compatibility list on retrode dot org.

  • @JSBasss cool! i got another question, sinse the wii with minor hacking can load roms from usb (sne9xGX)if the format is compatible (fat32) does the wii can run a real cartridge?

  • @Tailslol Yes, the Retrode has been tested to work on the Wii Homebrew Channel. I should have an older video where this is shown.

  • @JSBasss wow this is almost magic! great work, one last question sorry XD

one that is not in your videos or your faq:

does the retrode is compatible with pier solar cartridge? (a special genesis game made on a 64 meg cartridge)?

  • @Tailslol The Retrode does not read any of the contemporary Genesis titles by WaterMelon, Super Fighter, etc.

  • @JSBasss awww ok thx anyway for all those answer, you are great!

  • Would this work with the Super Gameboy Cartridge? I'd love to be able to backup savegames from my old GB cartridges.

  • @namuzed Please check out the FAQ on retrode.com

  • @JSBasss Already did, didn't see it mentioned. It touches on controller accessories, but that would be different then a cartridge adapter.

  • To be clear though, I commend the inventor, it is a wonderful product anything that supports or enables more options for the classic / retro gamer is awesome!

  • Definitely a niche product in my eye's and cool as a "Look what is possible" front but even for portability with a laptop your limited by the amount of carts you can carry, at home if you have the cart and the controller you LIKELY have a compatible console so..I .I DO wonder if it works in combo with a Game Genie though lol! I'd rather spend the money on another FLASHCART myself.

  • OK I agree it is cool in concept and execution and you know I am on board with any item that encourages Classic Gaming but overall I am not getting the point of this, I mean OK IF your really against playing ROMS if you don't own the cart (I have no issue with that) then maybe.

  • What kind of laptop is that?

  • Does the emulator works with everygame?

  • @LizardDean You'd have to ask the emulator author this question.

  • @JSBasss So the catridge just works like a ROM?

  • Consider it bought.

  • Can I connect it to my TV as well?

  • @shnakle1 If your computer has a video out, sure.

  • Does this device work with my samsung flat screen ?

  • @TheDunhagen No, unless you can run an emulator on it (very unlikely).

  • @bigbezet Ah, thanks, now i get it how it works.

  • @TheDunhagen You mean, a TV with fancy extended functionality (video recording/playback/etc.)? Depends. Is there a way to install Linux (or any other reasonable OS, really) on the TV, and does it have a USB host port?

  • @JSBasss It has an USB port, i can plug in external hdds. I doubt it would be possible to install linux directly.

  • Does it have DE-9 ports for Atari and Sega controllers?

  • @dimmddr1 Yes. So far, Sega 3- and 6-button controllers are supported.

  • Cheers for the inclusion of controller ports!

  • That's a technical necessity. This slot orientation reduces the total length of wires on the board by about 1 meter. That's quite significant when it comes to electromagnetic compatibility (i.e., the Retrode emitting radio waves). It's a plastic case, no longer metal, and even with unshielded cartridges and controllers attached, the device had to pass the same rigorous tests.

Also, it looks WAY better than having both carts in the same direction :)

  • Why is the Sega carts the only ones that face forward where as with the SNES one they're facing backwards ?
