How come airport firefighters use a totally different apparatus? just wondering on that.. something specified by the airport administration?

@bpdexplorer129nc They use different apparatus because unlike structural fire fighters the units they use have larger pumps and tanks, as well as carrying different foams and products to put out the different fires that happen because of an aircraft accident, and they sit higher because of having to go off in the grass and because of the spots where they must apply the agents to the fire. I lived on a Canadian airbase as an army brat and loved the crash trucks. As a special treat on day we got to ride in on of three 1968 Oshkosh 8*8 units. It was a sweet ride.

Depends which station at IAD the truck is based at. That particular unit spends most of it's time at station 5, which is on the southern section of the airport by runway 30. But if it's at Station one by the Exxon or Station 4 up by the Taxi depot, then it needs to use it due to all the idiot drivers in Northern Virginia who think a red light means go.

Dulles only has 2 fire stations and a third on the way, Station 302 by the air and space museum and Station 303 by the Exxon. Station 304 is under construction near RT. 606 by the new runway that was built. Station 302 is the only station at Dulles that houses these crash trucks, once 304 opens it will have 2 stationed there also.

thats a badass truck i work with its little brother but for demo's like that we use low flow to save as much water incase an actuall call comes in and they probally do the same thing but crash trucks put out a shit load of water you can empty a 3000 gallon tank with in like 2 mins
