Amen everybody--there will never be another Trane. Been in love with this piece for over 40 years and can never get enough! Miles was genious as well--saw both these guys live at a jazz spot called the Lighthouse in Hermosa Beach, CA in the 1960's--amazing!
@claybornwilliams I remember hearing this for the first time. I was at jimmy Mcnair and Fred Busby spot at the Villa West. Fred put this on the turn table and 'Trane blew me away. I later saw it in your stack back at home. I remember playing just the sax solo for an hour over and over and over again!!! can't get enough one hit is too many and a thousand ani't enough!
@hombrequemiralaluna I see your appreciation. Don't interrupt this cut nor John Klemmer's "Touch." Miles at Carnegie Hall first 2 cuts are still priceless. 10 years of technical mastery..
You're not out of your time. The thing is, this music is timeless. Sure, there's some great new stuff out too, but most of it is made for the sole purpose of making money. This stuff here is from way down deep, and most people have a hard time coping with it's depth.
what you say is fantastic.there are people like you and me that have a hard time dealing with stuff that is opposite of miles and coltranes depth.dana
I think I am alittle behind in my time because I enjoy this more than the stuff thats out now. I am 25 and I wish I had a record player so I can hear vinyl instead of CD's
Miles's last recordings with Coltrane on Some Day My Prince Will Come. Both tracks specifically chosen to showcase Coltrane - Some Day itself is a waltz and Teo a modal waltz, which reflects Coltrane's unexpected mainstream success with My Favorite Things.
Producer Teo Macero was a very intelligent and creative person. Trane sounds like he's reaching deeper into the realm of spirit, and parts of the music sound remind me of Sketches of Spain (thank you Frances Davis).
Coltrane's sax is naughty (in a good way). You can feel his soul with every breath he takes. Like there's a longing. I wonder if he ever found what he was looking for.
The way Miles works with the piano, bouncing off those chords, I love that...I'm sure this is Wynton Kelly.

Miles and Trane compliment each other and the band work as one. Strong African and middle eastern vibe in with the jazz here. Beautiful.

OMG THE FIRST FIFTH OF COLTRANE'S SOLO. I think god is a saxophone player.

Coltrane's unmistakeable sound has never-ever been replicated after all these years. I'm sure he's giving Gabriel some pointers. :-)
RIP John.

It's like you know Coltrane's note is coming @ 3:42 and you're scared and ecstatic at the same time. Like a foghorn that blasts.

Great teo..Miles did it on another LP and, I believe, J.J. Johnson rendered it a Bob Thiele produced Impulse LP
