  • dude, i cant believe that maya has only absolute blend shapes in 2011 year! this is so unpractical! even lightwave saves the sapekeys(blendshapes) within the structure of the object! this means that it doesent have 40 heads for 40 blendshapes - it has ONE shape that contains the information for vertex positions within it! so.... if you have a mesh with 4000 faces and you have 40 shapekeys that means you have 120000 faces in the scene only for making this character to talk!

  • Can you edit a corrective blendshape after it's been created? Is it possible? I don't want to redo the whole thing just for a single vertex =/

  • did u do low poly in maya then sculpt more detail in mudbox and bring it in to blendshape? id love a tutorial of this process if possible !

  • hey guys what do i select to get my model to shade like that ? because right now its shaded a way that i can see all the faces (smooth shading)

  • dude this is a good tutorial but the video sucks man. the video is lagging behind and the audio is all over the place. not trying to sound harsh just thought you should know incase you didnt realise and wanted to fix it

    Theres a floating vertex that I cant delet! I dont know even how it got there, how can i delete it? Is this a bug?

    Incidenally, it might be my player, but I'm getting quite a lot of audio skipping during your video. Sentences are getting cut off like crazy.

  • really great, but i think blendshapes remove some facial dynamics that bones with propper scripting can have.

    I imagine each program will have its strenghts and weaknesses. Botton line is, they all work very well.

  • generally both are very good programms it depends mostly of the user. But you can say generally more animations are made in maya by the industry and they have reasons for this.

  • For films and movies maya for sure. For architecture it is Max. for games it is both maya and max.

  • I guess that is be cause the smoothing tool you can use with polygons only.

  • Great work! Quick question. How do you animate the expressions one you have them all set up? I'm having trouble going from one expression to another.

  • I have a little problem that when I pull the slider up my object MOVES across the screen to the position where the blend shape was, rather than staying still.

  • Yes it is easy to fix but hard to say through the chat. You must change an order of the history on your major model. In thr maya interface there is on the top right side a very small icon which appers like little arrow pointing down. Expand it and with middle mouse drag and drop the history stuff down on the bottom. one os the rows you will move down will fix the problem. Do it one by one so u will not mees up anything else and also you will find that particul;ar one which cause the problem.

  • Yeah, there is definitely a problem with the sound in these videos... it jumps up and down in pitch weirdly and skips chunks of audio :/

  • hehe we havent even begun to do stuff like this. we just started using rigid and passive bodies and we only had one project involvong animation and it was hard. so were slowly getin there

    but you still have to do fun modelling and stuff in order to insert it in the rigid body.
