I think you made it even more confusing actually :)
I think it's easier if you stop shortening "Independent" to "Indie".
It might be better just to say it means that you're not getting paid by anyone to do your work other than having a stake in the profits once the game sells.
I think the problem is that it's a label that applies to developers only so long as they don't take on an external contract. At that moment they've stopped being independent.
Nice definition. I totally agree with you. But as a FC fan I don't understand something. You are Andy Moore AKA *looking at your YT nick* Weasel. I was strongly convinced that weasel was a nick name of Colin Northway... Can you explain this, please?
@weasello "Keep in mind that FC2 is a living product, unlike FC1; FC2 will be getting regular updates, potentially new features/levels/bugfixes as time goes on. If you don't think the product is "worth it" right now, give it time and maybe you'll change your mind!"
This is a really good def. Friend and I are messing around with some SDL in eclipse to make our first tower defense game :) (got to learn the basics right)
I really like the way you put it. Separating success and money from the word is important to me.
Would you describe me as having very little indie cred since I have to warp my creative vision around others' games? I feel like I could argue that I'm totally not indie in some aspects but indie in others but it seems strange to break it down that far.
God damn I hate this, almost as much as listening to people argue what is and is not art. Who fucking cares? Its clearly a highly subjective phrase since everyone argues about it so much.
@l2ic3 Just as an Artist might care how "art" is defined, as an indie game dev I care about how "indie" is defined.
I'm sure it's annoying and a bunch of blabbering if you don't care, but in that case, this video isn't directed at you. It's directed at other indie developers that care about how they're being perceived in the world.

Any chance you'll come back to FC2 and make due on the updates you promised?

@lego40001 I said that as an agent of InXile. Feel free to bring it up with them; I'm no longer affiliated.

@weasello Eh. I was hoping you wouldn't say that. Why are you no longer there? And do you still have control of the original FC?

@lego40001 I left a year or two ago, just after the launch of FC2, whenever that was. Went on to make my own games. :P
