  • love scott, is there anywhere i can watch the full video, not blinkbox cos i have trouble uploading that, thanks,

  • Listening to Cue wasted or high makes you paranoid, specially on the bom bom bom bom¡¡ (8) part, Scott is a genius creating atmospheres.

  • 3:12 was my favourite part of the documentary. Check it out on Netflix.

  • No mystery hes just good not a media whore.I want to laugh and im a huge fan.One has to take it soo seriously.

  • Farmer in the city is epic!

  • There is a huge amount of mystery surrounding this man...........makes you want to delve even deeper into his music.

  • Scott Walker is one of the few musicians (maybe the only) in my life that I discovered without any friend or teacher or acquaintance making the recommendation. And I am proud of that.

  • dude looks damn good for his age. he was over 60 when this was filmed.

  • how the hell is he 68?????????

  • @I know what you mean,he is an amazing looking man, he looks about 40 here!

  • how the hell is he 68?????????????

  • OMG he looks so young! He clearly sleeps in a cryogenic chamber.

  • He's on the darkside. Transient, minimistic and hypnotic. The lyrics are clear, visual and entrancing. It's music that can't be ignored.

  • I don't expect anyone to share my views, nor am I intentionally talking down to anyone. If I'm guilty of anything,it's of overstatement without clarification. In fact what I'm saying is not about my views per se, but views that have been expressed here and elsewhere. Some people have stated outright (some harshly) that they don't like it because they don't understand or comprehend it--I neither consider them ignorant nor do I condemn them for doing so. Nobody likes everything, that's human nature.

  • Part 1 : As a listener won over by certain individual songs rather than his albums as a whole, I have deep respect for Scott's willingness to follow his muse and tread the waters of commercial suicide in order to achieve his creative vision. He's become a painter of abstract aural soundscapes, and if they do not please everyone, well, that's not the objective of creativity. The goal is to grasp that thread of an idea, drag it out of the mind, and mold it into reality.

  • Part 2 ; Those who understand it will react with enthusiasm, praising its leap into new territories of expressionism and those who don't will reject it with disdain, citing inaccessability or focusing on tangents (the meat as percussion instrument scene, though I'm not against animal rights groups). 30 Century Man shows us where Scott Walker now fits between these opposing poles of opinion.

  • @MrJamesrnolan you cant simply dismiss peoples negative reactions as ignorance or inability to comprehend the meaning you think you have found in Walkers expression. Personally i remain neutral on the subject, but people are perfectly capable of understanding and disliking it, so dont condescend to people just because they dont happen to share your views.

  • now wow

  • in 2006 he was 63 years old ! probably make the 30th century the rate he's going

  • anybody else get the impression he really needs a glass of water?

  • only really talking to himself. about himself. and not particularly interesting.

  • I love this documentary. If you ain't watched it....go watch it!

    You WON'T regret it.

  • sick, but beautiful. Love Scott!

  • His new stuff nearly horried my girlfriend into a coma. Love it!

  • The bloke going "yeah" and "right" and "Aha" is pretty annoying...

  • @swampman That voice is Stephen Kijak the director of the movie he did the interview with Scott

  • maybe he should consider getting inside the box to pound his meat next time for that more minimal understated effect..

  • Maybe he should pound his own meat next time, and not that of some innocent animal. Anyway, what is it with this bloke - is he bi-polar? I know the cure - he should get off his self-obsessed backside and actually do something that benefits someone else. Yes, it actually works. The most important word in the English language is not "me".

  • @Morganissima -what is your problem? art is bigger than dinner, okay! besides, who says it didnt got to serve as food afterwards?

  • @Morganissima If you knew anything about what he's talking about or what the songs are about, then you'd know that "me" or ego is the furthest thing from what he creates. The exact opposite of what you think.

  • @retread01 in 2006 he was 63 years old , probably make the 30th century the way he's going

  • @SPCECO Who the fuck are you?

  • Ergot?

  • The documentary is excellent. Love or hate him, Scott Walker is a great talent. Incredible.

  • terrible

  • THE DRIFT is probably the most frightening album i have ever listened to. it genuinely scared the shit out of me. and that is a compliment (i swear)

  • I agree. I don't play it when the kids are home.

  • He's really good...

  • are they ever gonna release it here? maybe after it plays in San Francisco

  • opens this Friday (Feb 28th) @ Nuart theater in LA

  • I haven't seen it yet .Were there no American music artists they could get for this? Surely there must be some hip / alternative artists who are fans of his....

  • Nice post. I do hope that more people begin to listen to and appreciate one of the most interesting and compelling singers on the planet. I wonder if Scott Walker and producer Matthew Herbert will ever work together.

  • Thanks for the post.

  • for qaf fans Scott is one of Gale Harolds fav and after you watch this and listen to the work that Scott does you also will become a fan. You may remember a hit song he sang in the 60,s The Sun Ant Gonna Shine Anymore, It was and still is a most beautiful song. give it a listen.

  • Interesting that, after living in the UK for 40 years, his accent is still pretty much Midwestern American.

I hope this is released on DVD in the US soon.

  • As a teenager I loved Scott Walker with the Walker Brothers and always wondered what happened to him. His voice is still as beautiful as it was 40 years ago. I saw this doco last week and have been haunted by his voice and the quality of his work - a genius ahead of his time. I believe he will be truly appreciated and legendary 100 years from now, a real 30th century man. Love you Scott xxx

  • I just watched your video, 30 Century man, loved it, it's been so long since I've even heard anything about Scott Walker. This man is brilliant. Love ya!

  • fasciating. thanks.

not sure I want the artists I most admire to become "recognised". when the trendy brigade start liking something it's time to pack up and move home.

  • Come on, don`t be so negative. You should try punching some pork. It`s super duper.

  • Music can never be taken too seriously.

  • Vonnegut says Music is sacred, and I agree!

  • How can someone in the US see this movie?

  • Always liked Scott Walker's talent, and as with most non-diehard fanatics of his work, his '60s stuff can be remembered being more palatable than his ongoing contemporary style. He's a man of feeling, and to those that don't get him or his music, try not to take his music too literally. It's all about feeling - it's ambiguous, abstract, which is far more artistic, and perhaps even challenging to listen to at times - but that's Scott as we assume him to be: A legend to those that know.

  • AMAZING !!!

  • I'll be honest, his sixties stuff was greater.

His albums Scott 1, 2, 3, and 4 were the best.

I would describe the Drift as verging on morbid. ):

    No offense intended!

  • word..

  • i love the morons who think scott walker should still croon like a robot. open your ears, dolts. this stuff is viscera spilt on the tiles. you're idiots. go listen to lawrence welk and sinatra's mouth diarrhea and leave the real music to people with souls.

  • Elitist much?

I hate the snobbery and ignorance that people habitually judge experimental music by, but it annoys me even more when fans don't realise that their prejudices and close minded opinions are just as ill conceived and pointless.

  • Are you really that offended by people liking things? Why can't people have an opinion different from yours without being wrong? Grow up. You're not better than anyone just because you like listening to experimental music.

  • After the Drift I have no soul.

    Scott Walker stole it.

He's probably going to punch it on his next album.

  • wow, you insulted Scott Walker and David Bowie both in one post. Thats amazing. Good for you. (sarcasm, btw)

  • David Bowie has a great voice!

  • Comment removed

  • In some respects I agree with what you say about Bowie. His priority isn't music as such. A talent nevertheless, as his ego and status have always appeared more important to this man. Scott's not pretentious, which is why Bowie has so much adoration for him.

  • great

  • I wonder what Lulu thought of 'The Drift'.

  • :D With any luck she hated it!

  • Scott Engel is like a cult leader - but not maybe of his own choosing. He was a pop legend. He sang better than Elvis. But now people buy into the dark depths of his imagination. The world outside has enough real life darkness. But maybe i am a music lightweight..and every one of us has a different slant on music they are drawn to. This is just a statement of comment from me who worshipped Scott Walker. It's too depressing ! I wouldn't buy it and definitely wouldn't give it 'foive':-)

  • The best way I can describe Scott's album Drift, is that it had it's genesis miles below the earth's surface!

It birthed under tons of pressure, unbearable heat and brought forth demons that are forever tortured and tormented!

And now we the buying public, have to suffer it too!

  • Poor Scott, I think he has truly lost it

  • Or perhaps he's found it.

  • Comment removed

  • Poor you! You can't feel it.

  • I guess I just don't get this artistic stuff.

  • A form set comes from his heart and he gives it to me - thank you Scott.

  • his music is the only music that genuinely makes my blood turn cold.

    it's an addictive experience.

  • how did I manage to live without knowing him...!

  • i´m adicted to SW

  • Great Scott!

    Alex

  • Rose - What are your views on Scotran Walker?

  • who the hell are you? and what's with the Scotran thing?

  • ragged - Chill. I am just interested in others views on Scotran Walker. What do you think?

  • ok I get it ,,, see how many people you can rile with this,,, you know quite well his name is Scott! Noel Scott Engel to be exact...

  • ragged - Where do you get your learnings from? I hope you do not rely on the wikipedia too often.

  • dowling.. you are wasting your time, you won't rile me lol... I have forgotten more about Mr Engel than you will ever know about him... and not from Wikipedia..who would rely on that ???????? after your message I did have a look at it...nothing there I didn't know.. and very little real detail.

  • ragged - Do you think that Wikipedia can be useful for anything?

  • LOL Wikipedia is only as good as the person who posts stuff on there....and that is open to anyone who reads it, they can alter anything on there. I'm sure there is a lot of correct info on there, but as a serious research tool, I wouldn't use it.

  • ragged - But the wikipedia masters delete inaccuracies quite promptly, do they not?

  • they do delete inaccuracies if they know about them ..yes.. but they don't always know about them. On the subject of Wikipedia,,,correct me if I'm wrong LOL they really don't have anyone named Scotran Walker on there! nah don't correct me, I looked, there isn't .

  • ragged - Are you not contradicting yourself by relying on wikipedia, whom you have jus insulted, to argue against my assertions?

  • I am not insulting anyone,,I just said I wouldn't use it as a serious research tool Of course it has its uses. I am not arguing with your assertions... I have known of this guy for over 40 years and should know his name by now, I was just curious as to why you were using that very odd name which has no basis in fact..?? The man is registered at Companies House, and I think he should know his own name. If you enjoy using that name,, carry on.. whatever turns you on. End of correspondence

  • ragged - have you seen him live?

  • Yes ...

  • when?

  • ragged - Are you not contradicting yourself by relying on wikipedia, whom you have jus insulted, to argue against my assertions?

  • ragged - But the wikipedia masters delete inaccuracies quite promptly, do they not?

  • I think you were bored weren't you? (rhetorical) And the same kick you got from typing such as you have, I do with this post to you.

  • Can you accept the need for change?

  • Yes - but it has to have some sort of credibility wouldn't you agree? Kind of an ambiguous question you've have there. As are you referring to me, or the world in general. Either way, like myself, maybe you should have a go at answering your own questions once in a while too.

  • Why would I ask them if I knew the answer?

  • Because asking self-explanatory questions deserves no reply.

  • But a question's status as self-explanatory is surely subjective to each individual, no?

  • great

  • The Drift is a wonderful album, scary as fuck when you first hear it, but wonderful. Took me a much shorter amount of time to get into than I thought it would too.

  • Tilt was sick album

  • Insult? How? I'm curious.

  • It's not about the "30th Century" they misquoted him. The real title is "30 Century Man".

The only thing insulting here is you being dumb with yourself.

  • ADORO SCOTT WALKER!

  • no sound?

  • I have listened to The Dirft about 7 times all the way through now and I don't like it. It took me a awhile to get into Tilt but now I quite like it, perhaps this will happen for the Drift too but so far I can't latch on to any of it and there is practically no music at all. At least Tilt had Farmer in the City and Tilt to listen to while the rest took it's time.

  • Pretentious, lui? I'd sleep well if I'd have come up with a fraction of Sr. Engle's oooouvwre. But I admit I'd have to hear these new ones 28 times at least to like them much. Brand loyalty! But 30 Century Man...what a jewel. I'll have to go to Itunes then, and god, will my neighbours thank me for it.

  • What amazes me is that people keep going on about the punching of the side of pork. This includes a fairly large number of people who should know better. Do these people know anything about sound, or rhythm or music production at all? Back in the day, sound effects people used all sorts of things to get the sound effects they wanted. Chopping a cabbage to simulate the sound of a person's head being cut off comes to mind.

So what's the matter with a nice bit of pork?

  • I would love a bacon sarnie right now.

  • I love Scott Walker, but I can't imagine how his latest stuff and how he goes about producing it would be any different if it was a parody of an avant garde artist.

  • Good point.

  • That punching at the carcass of a dead animal made me realise that whatever pretentious garbage this man is now coming up with (and spare us that whole 50s beatnik crap please), he has learned nothing about life and respect for other species.

  • pretentious? unless you're a vegan (and devoid of a sense of humor) you have no right to say such rubbish! Beatnik crap? wow, you really are above it ALL aren't you? Care to meet for a hot dog?

  • Get a sense of humor, will ya?

  • You come across as a fairly crap person.

  • It's ok Morganissima - you just don't get him. You're too literal, again people need to learn on multi-levels - ambiguity is challenging, but it's more closer to the truth than anything else we'll ever know.

  • Genius, can't wait to see this.

  • tall cool one

    tiny/salford

  • Wonderful people like the so long semi-forgotten where-are-now Scott Walker effortlessly demonstrate that you shouldn't release any artistic expression unless it's able to charm the moment, unlike the tedious unburdenigs of the unimspired, god curse them; and yet, what a... I could go on.

  • Yeah, I suppose the antithesis of him would be Madonna's career.

  • An extraorrdinary source of inspirations..yeah an ultimate artist, I agree..

  • The film is being shown in the Curzon, Soho. As of Friday. I really can't wait to see this. Scott walker is just the ultimate artist.

  • Looks barely 50. I have the same birthday as him. I hope I age that well. :)

  • interesting. i will want to see this when it comes out.

  • Could it be that punching the pork is the ultimate statement on 9-11?

  • What's the statement?

  • Could be anything couldn't it? Ultimate tho? Nothing's ultimate in this day and age, as we always find ways to go further than that.

  • great

  • Shit! He still looks awesome for his age.

  • Meat is murder

  • delicious murder.

  • hi there montreal,

    check PBS maybe just maybe

if i find out i will post,

    ciao

  • One of the early Scott fans, oh he was so beautiful. Still beautiful in different way, admire his determination to do what he wants - this is what defines the good from the genius, Scott is the later.

  • When are we going to have access to the film here in Canada? Montreal to be exact, someone?

  • Somehow Scott's casual air makes the whole meat punching business seem even more unsettling. I can't wait to see this film.

  • GOD. I thought he was british... woops.

  • nope his ours

  • Yep but he had the sense to dump you

  • I discovered Scott Walker through David Bowie, he's been an avid supporter from early in his career. I've read that Bowie himself is one of the producers of the film. Much overdue praise and respect goes out to Bowie for constantly exposing us to great artists and their music. I truly cannot think of another musician of his stature who has consistently been so graciously supportive of his fellow artists. Anticipation!!!

  • Almost wish Scott would have stayed silent.... nothing more alluring than an impenetrable, unsolvable mysyery. Finally we see how Houdini did it!

  • i love you scott.

  • Wow, he's 63? He looks DAMN GOOD! Can't wait til this comes out!

  • I love how understated he is in everything he says.

    This will be brilliant.

  • THE DRIFT

    10/10 WELL DONE SCOTT

HAVEN'T HEARD ANYTHING LIKE IT SCARY ALL HELL

    CHICO BONGALAR

  • That is so fucking gorgeous....

  • Yes, thank you!

  • Brilliant thank you so much. I can scarcely wait....

  • that meat punching is a bit sick

  • The meat punching is a bit awesome.

  • Some people even eat the stuff!

  • Always worth the wait. A true one-off.

  • "tilt" was the best album of the nineties . thus far "the drift" is the best album of this century. this film looks delicious.

    i

    cannot

    wait

  • Thank you! Tilt was indeed the finest album/piece of aural art of the nineties...the drift sounds like it follows a similar perfect trajectory.

    Well worth waiting for

  • Thankyouthankyouthankyouthankyou . . .

  • Can't wait!

  • Thank you for putting this up, a great taster, can't wait for the film :)
