  • who's the drummer

  • @MKCyrax1997 Phil Hernandez

  • @AutisticPersona: I should note that Mink Car came out on 9/11

  • @GammaRayHideaway That is eerie.

  • I finally posted the remix of this song on my youtube page.

  • Aw back when we had the Twin Towers. :(

  • At 0:24 he looks surprisingly like Ron Mael from Sparks.

  • Linnell's face at 1:17 is the best part of my day today.

  • Has any band ever done anything this cool on network television before or after this? NAY!

  • That line gets me every time:

"They're all shouting something at us, waving and pointing..."

and then drops the subject completely. ROTFL

  • And the law will be disco...and the government will be disco. To bad there was no original video for this. Just a live presentation from a talk show I never watched.

  • when will they come back to Scotland?!?!?!?!?

    PLEEEEEASE!!!

  • is this the greatest song ever?

  • Why are there dislikes?

  • Can't. Stop. Watching.

  • When John looks at the camera its like he's staring into my soul

  • Wow. That kicked ass. Who would've thought that you could do a mostly electronic dance number live and still walk away looking like a champ? Love these guys.

  • Wasn't there a less dancy version of this going around at one point ??

  • @Darkphantaria I thought the point of this song was to be dancy....

  • Am I the only person who is reminded of Pac Sun stores and 9/11 by this great song?

  • They had so many rock solid pop songs on this disc. It was like Factory Showroom, which was musically phenomenal. These guys just keep churning out great stuff!

  • Best song of the century.

    No, seriously!!

  • Oh my god.. I remember actually watching this.

Still my favorite off the album

  • Wish there was a CD version on here also. Love this song!

  • LOVE the line "Everyone's excited... and confused."

  • Why aren't more people familiar with this song?

Because the release date of the album was September 11, 2001.

    Most unfortunate release date ever.

    Rock-on TMBG!

  • @dvdtranslations Nobody hears songs on their release dates

  • @dvdtranslations

    Lol, that must suck.

Though I like the title even more. "It's So Loud in Here" indeed.

  • This would be the most ironic song to blast at full volume.

  • @TheStrongBadMan

    That's not irony. That's fitting.

  • This song is even better with guitar.

  • I love TMBG. So fuckin' much.

  • william allen white!!! i'm from emporia i know all about that, whatchu know about that?

  • I can't help but sing along!

  • linnel's vocals sound a little off on this one. But other than that it's great as always

  • LOVE this song full blast in my car!

  • Love the 4-track Reel-to-Reel. Bet that is a Bitch to carry onto the airplane.

  • Love how Linnell's shirt and tie combo fit perfectly with the music.

  • better than sex

  • Love the hair flip at like 3:38-3:40.

  • I never, ever, ever, EVER get tired of THIS SONG!!!

  • Jon Flansburg..... yes I mean flansburg... is my hero but I would not be able to live without they might be giants

  • i have such a crush on the singer <3 *swoon*

  • conan has good taste. got to give him that.

  • @Wesleech I just watched a load of different of live TMBG performances and all of them were on Conan. He has VERY good taste.

  • @peroxidekitty Yeah, I've always thought Conan was a googly-eyed tmbg fan like me. Seems to me, on their first appearance, they were the first band I ever saw him actually bring over to the desk to talk. They are the greatest band working. Any where. Probably any time. And yes, I know about the Beatles. :)

  • @TwiPrime I'm glad you said that about the Beatles. My whole damned family come from Liverpool and I love them but, I'm still happy to admit that they are not the best band on the planet! Tmbg all the way. I've loved them since I was 7 and used to steal my Dad's cd's while he was working. Mwahahahaahaaaaaaaaaaa

  • I love the lyric "They revamped the airport completely/Now it looks just like a night club/Everyone's excited and confused". Seems like it would be my reaction. :-)

    Also, this setup is very...Erasure!

  • Pure Awesomeness

  • TMBG posted this on Facebook today, August 23, 1010. So here I am. They performed yesterday at Stern Grove in SF. Performed earlier this year in SF, too. Wow! Lucky us!

  • @birdsdaword 2010

  • @personM4N -- hhahaha WIN!

  • I wonder if they ever got those goldfish...

  • I have been listening to them since the Flood Album. I never thought humor and music combined could such memorable lines and melodies.

  • To paraphrase a well-know joke"

Do they call TMBG an electronic dance band? Nooooo.

But they put out *ONE* electronic dance number and blow away everything in the whole genre.

  • @jackneefus Did you ever hear the "Hot 2002 Remix", where they auto-tune "I'll remember what it was"? Even better than the album version, I think.

  • They revamped the airport completely. It looks just like a nightclub. Everyones excited and confused.

  • this is the kind of song that makes me so happy i want to just get up and dance no matter how tired of unhappy I am.

It's crazy that I never found it until now, knowing how long I've loved TMBG.

  • ke$ha should cover this song

  • @Caldera42

    Best be trolling foo'

  • @FrustratedWhiteMale I'm only half kidding.

  • @Caldera42 Dear, god - NOO!!!

  • Hell yes Teac A-2340 >:D

I wonder if they were really using it to play the backing track, you can't really tell if the meters are moving. That supply reel was the kind Ampex/Quantegy supplied as of the time this was recorded (1999-2000?) though. I know this because I don't have a girlfriend

  • Can't get over how chubby Conan looks in this clip. He is so thin now. Wow.

  • You know what I really fucking hate about TMBG? Nothing.

  • @personM4N WIN.

  • @personM4N He who hates TMBG hates to live.

  • @personM4N

I know right? I hate that about them too

  • @personM4N dude wow.. i totally hate that too. small world.

  • @personM4N The only bad thing about TMBG is I haven't seen them live. I'm going to remedy that soon, though!

  • @personM4N Can I thumb that up twice??

  • love.

  • Linnell sometimes has a habit of starting way off key and then locking in after a bit. Like here. But I love this anyway.

  • I love that they do a close up of the reel-to-reel when it's...y'know..."singing."

  • if i am not mistaken, this performance was the night before the sept 11th attacks, or perhaps just a few days before. i will always remember it as representing the way we lived, thought and enjoyed things, feeling reasonably safe, before the attacks happened and everything changed forever, the wars, the paranoia, etc.

so i love this video and this song, but it also makes me feel so sad.

  • @RealityRunsRampant yes this was done on 9/10/2001

  • These guys always kill it on Conan! RIP Late Night with Conan, long live TMBG!

  • Ba-by, check this out, I've got something to say. . . Maaa-aaaan it's so loud in here!

  • I have yet to hear them play this in person. They didn't do it at Ithaca on 10/1, so that was a bummer.

  • Phil Hernandez rockin' the octapad

  • That is awesome. TMBG just keeps coming up with new ways to be fresh and original . . . and they've been doing it for decades!

  • on their documentary they have footage of them before and after this performance backstage - i was annoyed that it didn't include footage of them playing. great video!

  • this song fucking rocks

  • For some reason the lead singer reminds me of Jim Carrey... perhaps its the facial expressions.

  • He reminds me a little of David Byrne from Talking Heads.

  • I just heard this song on Sirius last night. Great stuff.

  • Who, pray, is William Allen White?

  • TMBG's mascot durr.

  • Mascot? When I think of that word, I imagine an animal in a cage, toted along with the band like groupies, or perhaps a guy in a weird costume (such as that man who wears that baseball for his head) who attends sporting events. Remember that mascot in "Bull Durham", the man with the rubber bull mask who got hit by a baseball? That's what a mascot is supposed to be. Does Mr. White travel with TMBG on the road or what?

  • Cardboard cutouts of him do.

  • yes. they keep mr. white in a cage and bring him along tours.

he's quite cute, but also very shy.

  • who's the guy playing the drum machine. Is he a roadie or someone like that? This is from the time when they were on Conan and they recorded tmbg in the backstage area and it was on gigantic..

  • He was their drummer at the time. He also appears in the Dr. Worm video.

  • I like the lyrics; it reminds me of some clubs I used to go into to, where the staff had on odd costumes and there was no coat check.

  • Do I see a homage to electronic pioneers Kraftwerk in Linnel's outfit (the tie's a different color, though)?

  • Makes sense.

  • 3:18. Aw.

  • This song is awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Great song.

  • James K. Polk?

  • Should I know whose face that is??

  • It's William Allen White.

  • THEIR VOICES SOUND SO ELECTRONIK...

  • this. fucking. rules.

  • They're live performances kick ass. <3

  • YES. TOTAL YES. I've always enjoyed watching them live, they just have so much energy, and always look like they are truely enjoying themselves^^

  • And they sound amazing!

They're live sounds just as good, if not better than the CDs.

TMBG is made of so much win. 8D

  • Awesome!

  • sexy eyes and teeth 1:18 :3

  • fuck yes!

  • wow, an honest-to-goodness tape show, on TV. love this.

  • what is up with that image of a head in the back?

  • The head's name is William Allan White. They Might Be Giants have used his head in several live preformances, album covers and if I remember correctly, even a song

  • certainly a favorite of mine!

  • This song owns.

  • Linnel is dreamy. Hey my licsenceplate doesn't say They Might Be Giants for nothing!

  • you need to watch the Philadelphia TMBG interview where Flansburg talks about seeing someone with a TMBG licence plate and scaring them.

  • I don't scare people. I am people.

  • I love their stage setup here

  • When was this on television?

  • September 10, 2001

  • Comment removed

  • September 7, 2001.

  • In Gigantic, this was the performance the Johns were preparing for in that one part--John Linnell's wearing the same shirt that he was when he was talking about the bowl of Goldfish! :D I love the Giants too much...

  • This started my love machine...

  • the johns are joshing again.
