  • Capybaras are just so strange animals.. but cool.

  • You know what...................this video is just TOO incredible. And she kissed Caplin too!!! 1000 thumbs up! What a fascinating animal, though.

  • awwwwww. you two are so cute!

  • WTF?

  • you think this animal has a brain freeze right now?!

  • cute animal, similar like giant rat

  • He is a beautiful animal

  • How do you train him like that?

How long did you have him?

  • it looks like a bunny rabbit

  • the capybara is original from Venezuela

  • that's a GIANT RAT... with a hair of a boar...

now these rats are roaming the LA sewage treatment plants... creepy...

  • Wow - what a sweet and lucky capybara!

  • I think capybara's are so cool ! I'd like one. They seem to have such unique personalities (^_^)

  • and no ice cream headache Oo? What a monster.

  • haha he wants another bite

  • That is one ugly dog.

  • Sitting on a porch, feeding Popsicles to capybaras? This is the life I want.

  • In response to comment on the dreaded rat mule. The capybara did not escape into the wild in 1973 it was released into the wild by the fur manufacturing industry after the consumer decided they did not want to wear dead animals as coats for humanitarian reasons anylonger. They are a very adaptable and prolific creatures we can learn alot from them. Stop calling them dreaded, and they are not rats or mules.

  • If you ever run out of food you could eat your capybara.

  • He thinks she's a popcicle slot machine!

  • poor caplin i heard on facebook caplin died of a seizure while gtting an mri.

  • i'm betting he likes it cause it taste like fruit

  • I love when he wiggles his ears!

  • If this is a rat where is it's tale?

  • @ahmeeeeeeeeeeeed

    *tail

And it's not a rat. It's a capybara. Both are rodents. Same family, different species :)

  • What's his favorite flavor?

  • ah, sweet, sweet behavioural reward :)

  • I know a bigger rat !!!! look at : Kaarthouder opent tijdens WK2010 met gorgelhamer

  • After watching this video,

I have concluded Caplin Rous is smarter than most politicians in Washington.

    And he's a rodent.

  • @wheelinthesky300

    So are the politicians.

  • very smart and beautifull

  • he is sooooo cute.

  • Hi, this is Edna with The Nutro Company. Caplin is PAW-some! lol I never knew about Capybara's before this! I love how he's licking the popscle stick to get the last drop of his treat!

    Thanks for sharing! :-D

this animal is brazilian , he lives in amazon and cerrado forrest

like a cowfish amazon , they are a human friends

  • soooo cute! omgshhh

  • i was thinking of getting one any advice?

  • @cldball Please read the FACute on Caplin's blog (URL is on his home page) before considering a pet capybara. In fact, read the whole blog, it will give you an idea of what to expect. There are also a couple of links to breeders there and their pages have additional information about what it's like to own a pet capybara.

  • Where are you located? Is is legal to own these animals as pets?

  • He looks strangely dignified...

  • DOES ANYONE KNOW IF ITS SAFE TO DRINK THEIR MILK?!

  • LOL. one of my giunea pigs, Terri, LOVES ice. She begs for it when she hears me put ice in a glass. i drop it in a cup of worm water for a minute so it is soft for her little teeth. then I hear *crunchcrunchcrunchcrunchcrunch* for the next few minutes. her little piggy hubby, Cole, like to lay on top of her melted ice when she is done. it gets hot in ga, but we keep them cool with ac, fans, and water bottles with ice water in them. They love cold stuff

  • He chews like a true gentleman.

  • That is adorable.

  • poke poke poke

  • What have u been feeding ur guinea pig!?

  • Wow I really like these creatures !

Is there hair wiry like guinea pigs or is it smooth?

  • @zoyasmaster If you think guinea pig hair is wirey, you have no idea what capybara hair is like! Guinea pigs are soft. Capybaras are scratchy. His hair will poke you like straw.

  • ily caplin

    my guinea pigs love you!!

  • @Fleefles Dumbass

i wont dignify your comment with an answer. You are obviously a clueless ....

  • Capbaras are so cool, you're so lucky to have one. he seems really happy too... so cute :)

  • SHE BEGS FOR FREEDOM!

  • @haydutraduke

Freedom is a human concept, animals don't care about being "free." They are about surviving. And the "freedom" you speak of is living in an environment where basically everything wants to kill you and eat you alive and you'd be lucky to even see your first birthday.

  • @Fleefles

i wont dignify your comment with an answer. You are obviously a clueless Dumbass....

  • Caplin Rous begs for freedom!

  • It's a giant guinea pig! :) My guinea pig doesn't give paw though. What a sweetheart. I should get one. I'll have my regular g-pig and a giant g-pig.

  • It's so cute XD

But please replace the popsicle, not so healthy for them!

  • I don't think popsicles are good for them@@

  • How sweet. Every animal I know loves popsicles. How much does he weigh? I have never seen anything like it. It looks like a cross between a kangaroo, hamster and a rabbit to me. Give him a hug for me. Barb

  • does he run in a giant wheel and drink from a giant water bottle?

  • Who has who trained ?!? (grin)

  • In Soviet Russia, rodent trains you!

  • IN Soviet Russia rodent eat you and your mc donalds and your "freedom",the democracy....and your flag too i suppose

  • @chg657

LOL! Was thinking the same thing! Too cute.

  • Pretty cool, sweet lil bugger...

  • That's so funny with the paw. Just like a dog begging for a treat!

  • he's AWESSSSSSOMMMMMMME

  • holy .... he is so cute!!!!!!!!!!

  • he was like OM NOM NOM NOM. :D

  • I've seen these in Cuba. They are all over the country side. Some bigger than this, some baby ones.

  • I LOVE YOU CAPLIN ROUS.

  • how big do they get?

  • 100 lbs

  • Capin said that he wanted red

  • Oooo! I want one... as long as he likes popsickles!

  • For some reason, I never think of capybaras as rodents.

  • The dreaded rat mule. Created in a government lab on the outskirts of Rio de Janeiro, they escaped into the wild in 1973 and have been terrorizing locals ever since. Hide your popsicles.

  • LOL

  • @EscapePodFilms And hide yo' kids, hide yo' wife, and hide yo' husband cause capybaras rapin' everybody out here!

  • FUCK ME SIDEWAYS, WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT!?! Someone enlighten me, please?

  • It is a capybara.

  • Aww it's so cute! Reminds me more of a dog than it does of a rodent.

  • i saw one on tv, they are sooooo cute!

  • i m so sorry i sound like an idiont but some1 tell me..

WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT A GIANT RAT OR WHAT!! :O

  • the largest species of rodent

  • you would need a roll bar off of a jeep and a 12'x6' slab of steel, and some kind of heavy duty industrial spring as well as four pounds of Kraft cheese to properly rid of it.

  • Capybara

  • how cute! i want one

  • That squirrel is missing it's tail.

  • Thats what happens when you mix a rat and a beaver and then give it popsicles for life

  • What a wonderful animal! I would love to have one.

  • That's one HUGE rat!

Really cute how he waves his paw.

  • Comment removed

  • That is the cutest thing I've ever seen! I think he looks like a giant guinea pig.....I saw the link to this on "Unknown Highway," where they described him as a "giant rat," but rats are gross & ugly ~ he's adorable! Wish I had one.

  • Caplin Rous has you trained so very well.

  • Is that a proper Popsicle made for human consumption? Could that be bad for the capybara as their digestive system is obviously different from ours?

    Just concerned, that's all.

  • Since capybaras are herbivores, their digestive track is quite different from ours. Capybaras, like other cavys, need a lot of vitamin C. We give him fruit popsicles to help satisfy this need. Capybars do eat fruit in the wild, although not frozen! We've actually switched to homemade ones now.

  • Great, thanks, caplincapybara, for your speedy reply!

  • @inmyhumble0pinion Oh shut up, everything is animal abuse these days. Mind your own business.

  • such a cute (and smart!) little man.

  • That's the biggest squirrel I've ever seen. What happened to his tail?

  • Brain FREEZE!

  • So cute. And he certainly has Melanie trained.

  • That is the truth! That capybara knows how to get his humans to do things for him.

  • @caplincapybara yeah, but pavlov and behavioural psychologist figured that out ages ago. check the out what skinner boxes are. they are all about shaping the behaviours of animal to preform certain tasks to get rewards. it's how all animal learn to take advantage of their environment.

  • *crunch crunch crunch* (kiss) *stops chewing, look of utter disgust, swallows pride

    *crunch crunch crunch*

  • too cute <;3~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

  • lol about the cuttest thing i've seen in months.

    thanks alot for sharing :)

  • Oooooooh I love it!!! <3

  • Funny how it bats you with it's paw, much like a begging dog! I'd certainly like to have one as a pet, I'm sure they have quite a calming effect.

  • He is soooo beautiful. They such calm (and calming) animals. They originate from South America someplace don't they?

  • They are from eastern South America north to Southern Panama. They're probably easiest to see in the wild in the Los Llanos region of Venezuela.

  • Aww he is so cute!

    And big! O_o

    ^.^

  • what a perfect animal.

  • lol thats so cute !!!!! i love capybaras

  • oh my goodness he's adorable! I used to trail rats simmilarly, although their attention spans were my biggest issue. Would you say Caplin was easy to train?

  • Caplin learned the circle trick in about three popsicles, which I think is pretty good. I'd say he's about as smart as a dog but his motivations are different. He won't do anything if there isn't something in it for him.

  • He is so cute :D

  • Caplin is such a smart and handsome capybara. He's like a big puppy dog with buck teeth.

  • amazing! i love it! i would love to have the time to commit to an animal like that!!! must be very hard though.

  • What an enjoyable video! How cute!

  • I want to pet him. I saw a capybara at the fair today, I wanted to take him home.

  • I wonder if you saw Caplin's parents! They are carnies and travel from fair to fair, carnival to carnival.

  • Hah, that'd be awesome. It was just one though. I posted 4 videos of him on my 12seconds account if you're interested :)

    I'm in love with capybaras!

  • caplin is so incredible

  • Do you have to trim his nails? Do you bathe him? Do Capybaras have an odor? Can he be indoors at all? Can he be housetrained?

I just think he's great. Thanks so much for sharing all your videos. Caplin brings joy to everybody! :)

  • I have never trimmed his nails but he is not full grown yet. He might need that later. He has a scent gland on his nose but the odor is not noticeable to people. He goes swimming every day so does not need baths. He is an indoor/outdoor pet like a dog. He is house-trained, in a way. He uses a bowl of water next to the toilet where I empty it after each use. Glad you're enjoying the videos!

  • yummeh gud popsicle ^^

  • Omnom, popsicle.

  • Hi, again:

Since Caplin is a rodent does his teeth constantly grow? What else does he eat besides popsicles and grass? How much does he weigh now? And how long do capybaras live?

Thanks for sharing! Hugs and kisses to Caplin again! Look forward to your next vid.

  • Yes, Caplin's teeth continuously grow as with all rodents. He also eats guinea pig food, dried fruit, forzen fruit, yogurt, milk, equine senior, oats, and frosted mini wheats. He doesn't like fresh fruit and he refuses to eat lettuce, spinach or any of the many foods guinea pigs love.

Caplin Rous is just about to turn 1 year old. He currently weighs 78.5 lbs and is still growing. Capybaras live for around 12-15 years.

  • I LOVE HIM SO MUCH!

  • He's so well trained!

  • Caplin, I love you! That popsicle looks good, it must be hot there.

  • So cute and so clever!! They do say capybaras are extremely intelligent. I look forward to every Caplin video. Thanks.

  • What a clever capybara!

    He looks like a dog.

  • Clever Caplin!

we love your videos, caplin looks so dignified. even when he's begging for a bite of popsicle

  • What a cutie pie!

Do you brush his teeth? I'm wondering about cavities.

  • We don't brush his teeth. Like all rodents, his teeth grow continuously so he doesn't have the same problem with cavities that people do. Eventually they would just grow out.

  • That Cappy is such a cutie pie! Caplin looks so content. Thanks again for the latest video of him. He is getting bigger too!

  • As always...I love Caplin Rous; this vid just takes the cake...or should I say " Popsicle!" Caplin always makes me smile. What a lovely bond you have.

  • haha CUTE! i love how he taps you with his paw!

  • oh... i wish there is this animal in sydney.

  • u shook baby

  • woo 1st view caplin
