Maybe the truck set the lights flashing... and then the bus that was right behind it (and is under the height restriction) stopped them flashing. Are the lights faulty like this?
What percentage of trucks actually stop anyway upon seeing the lights flash?
@nettlesoup ... I think the truck probably stopped at the crosswalk for some pedestrians, and then the lights timed out before the truck reached the trestle. Other than that, the lights work just fine. I see trucks that set off the warning lights almost every day. Probably over 95% of overheight trucks that end up driving all the way up to the trestle turn into the side street because the driver realizes the problem. No idea how many turn earlier because they see the signs further up the road.
Is there a video where the truck takes out this annoying bridge? Its amazing how many trucks have fallen victim to this bridge and nobody does anything to make sure it doesn't happen again. They got to either build a higher bridge or dig the road lower. Those signs and lights are obviously not working.
It makes me seriously wonder if that bridge is closer to 11'6" instead of 11'8". Probably what the local DOT crew failed to realize after a couple repaving of that spot reduced the height difference. One of the trucks in one of your other videos you can see it says 11 6 on the box but he still hit. The local DPW might want to come out and reassess that over pass.
I always wonder why they put such warning signs with flashing lights for low structures. There is one thing that works *fairly* well: traffic lights. Most people stop for a red light. So why not install a traffic light at the intersection just before the viaduct. The light would be linked to a height-measuring device and turn red when a high truck arrives. And THEN, the warning message will show : "TOO HIGH: TURN RIGHT HERE"
@mgagnonlv : That's exactly what some of the major tunnels here in Holland have.
A big led sign will go on saying "Load out of height-profile!"
At the IJtunnel to Amsterdam the lanes leading you into Amsterdam are secured with the led sign, two red lights of which one is blinking and a barrier that comes down after the truck has stopped (on the lane with the high truck).
Tunnelsecurity then gives the truck driver instructions on where to temporarily park his truck to give way to regular traffic.
I work outside a very low train bridge at my place of work, and this happens constantly. It's hilarious. The bridge is right outside and last time it happened, the entire building RUMBLED like an earthquake.
Apparently before I work there this truck came by with a gigantic stack of hay, and knocked ALL of it all over the road.
I worked there 1990-2000, before the crash beam was installed. The signage looks adequate but I think the timing is based upon the speed limit. I think many of the trucks are speeding and don't register the blinking light until too late. Some just don't pay attention. Worst one in the mid-nineties was a construction crane ... it cracked the concrete on the bridge requiring repairs. There is a cross street right there. Maybe they need a light there.
Man, I wish I still worked at Brightleaf Square. Could see lots of "bridge art" flying off the truck. I used to park every day in that lot shown beyond the bridge in the opening sequence. My desk used to be be adorned by dozens of pieces of the most artistic swirls and curls I could find. Ah, but that "real" bridge art ... before the big beam protector was installed. Great shots!
1000feet of signage and they still hit it.theyve been hitting the bridge at the roxboro/pettigrew street too,two tt's fully loaded and breaking trailers
hmmm, the only thing i can think to fix this problem(besides not letting people like this drive....) is have a little arch-way earlier with a sign on it so they know if that sign hits the top of their truck, they can't make it through...people still probably wouldn't realize not to go under it though lol
Bus approaches, sneaks by shaking it's head. Disappointed. Then laughs. Why are these so funny!!!

Wow, how many vids do you have of crashes at this same overpass? I think they need to improve the signage.

@mgagnonlv That's a really good idea. You should send it in a letter to the mayor of your city or a civil engineer or something.
