Download (the song playing here) was a really complex recording in which Dwayne and cEvin (whom ARE the composers) were actually running over 50 independant analog synthesizers at once for this track. cEvin mentioned several times that Dwayne and himself liked it so much that they used that studio setup and the name of the song and formed Download (the band).
I am just tickled s#*tless to find these vids. Thanks for posting.
@stubbornpuppet23 The song Download was recorded in a 13 hour straight marathon by Dwayne Goettel and Dave Ogilvie, with Cevin Key coming in occasionally to listen to what they were doing and to give advice. They used two tape machines to bounce the samples and construct the final piece, and an Eventide H3000 for processing. This was all routed using the custom desk at Mushroom Studios.
@civ1 The final drone on Download is actually a surreptitious recording that Dwayne did of Martijn de Kleer playing with Dwanyne's Prophet 5 during a Tear Garden session. The distortion on it comes from him not knowing how to run the desk properly.
And I do agree with the other poster to this video about it making you feel like you are standing at the edge of the earth.
Almost a quiet desolation.
Solitude that is welcomed. A final "peace" so-to-say.
Beautifully done. If you like this type of sound, be sure to check out another group by the name of Raison d'être (Industrial ambient from Sweden ... powerful soundscapes like Download).
This is truly post apocalyptic and haunting. Not for trendy ears. When you zone out to this, you forget what instruments they are using in the studio, like your stereo is possessed.
For this part i want you to picture an orange dessert, with billions of people everywhere all evenly lined up in rows and lines, but they are naked, but they dont have sexual parts or faces or hair and they are all standing up straight, then picture the sky with it all together, a purple sky with a blood red sun. picture that when the long 1 note part comes on and you will flip
this, circustance, and mirror saw are probably the best songs off last rights. this song sounds like a spiritual after-death journey into the sky....or mabe thats just how I interpet it
this is the absolute best song off the album to me, i thank them everyday for making it.
it is a personal mental/spiritual brap for the fans .. mine was climbing a mountain and finding a cave and connecting with primevil cultures.. which i then did in real life

I think Steven Spielberg wanted them in A.I. but he got ministry instead...

This outro is still the best ambient work ever.

@HarlotBug3
Agreed.
A hauntingly powerful track.
Somber ... yet very moving.

This part of the video freezes around 5:10. Does this happen on the actual VCD that you have?

What song is this? Is it even Skinny Puppy?

It's the last song on Last Rights, Download. Download is such a long song that I had to actually split it in half.

Well I've got the CD now, its wonderful, so thanks a bunch.
well spend money.

I actually read that the ambient portion was composed by someone other than Goettle or Key. Might have to verify that.
