GT3 is the only one that comes exclusively with a manual transmission. The M3 is a great car, but too many posers drive them and most people who drive beemers are rich snobs who don't know anything about cars. The Audi R8 is a beautiful car but it's too expensive and is not as driver focused as the GT3.
Thats easy to explain, porshe is a sport car and m3 is a couple, heavy and not so dynamic as porshe, so porshe dont need the same engine to do the same aceleration and keep the same speed

Not a Porsche fan aswell but I fancy the GT3 and Boxster Spyder.
If I buy an M3, I'd go for the 4 door version. If I wan't a sports car, I'd go for the Audi r8 (the V8 one) and if I can afford a more expensive sports car it would be the Gallardo LP560-4.
But if I were to choose one sports car, I'd choose none of the three above nor an Aston Martin V8 Vantage because I'd simply go for the Jag XKR. I prefer a Grand Tourer than a Track champ.
the only thing r8 has going for it is cool looks, with 200cc more it only produces the same HP the M3. BMW has just done a better job with this engine than Audi has.
just cool looks? hows about a mid engined superbly balanced chassis that is dynamically capable of driving rings around the m3. four rings. the m3 is great for what it is. a done up three series, but this is the realm of exotics.
btw, the R8 has more torque, and is a relatively old engine design. reports suggest that 450 horse will be the output for the final revisions of the Audi 4.2 V8 so there is still life in it yet.
I say this having owned or currently owning 2 of the 3 cars for one simple point and that is the R8 is an exotic by concept only and not in execution. M3 is near the pinnacle of it's class. Gt3 has only a couple of cars within it'd class, but are all within a hair in performance. The R8 cant even begin to enter it's class, that is why there is even a discussion over these cars.
I'd take the R8 over the others, that's a no brianer, but if you want a hardcore track day car to have some fun the GT3 is the best, as for a all rounder the M3 is probably the best car in the world.
m3 is a very fast car round corners... if the clarkson wasn't talking rubbish it is even faster round tg track than mercedes black... which has more power and cost about twice as much...

Without being combative, the U.S. Market doesn't really support making cars in similar build quality than Europe. We have the ability to build cars similar to Mercedes, BMW, and Porsche, but GM/Ford... really isn't interested in doing so. We have some smart people, but it's all about economics here. Sell more midpriced cars to increase profitability than a few high end cars with less return. Not really hard to fathom right? BTW, I drive a BMW :)

Yes, and the gallardo and the f430 will both run you about 200 grand while the BMW is just about as fast as the gallardo and starts at about 59 grand. Plus you can use it every day with a family. And I think it looks awesome.

No, it is the GT3. The GT2 has air vents on the sides like the 997 Turbo and a bigger rear-wing spoiler with built-in air vents as well.

i love porsche and bmw... and i'll probably end up with some sort of 3 series/m3 or 911 or both... but the R8 is what has my heart right now. it just can't grab my wallet, because of its lack of a rear seat. i wish, wish, wish it came in a 2+2 configuration. sigh...

If I was able to get a hold of the R8 I would buy it, GT3 just wont be able to handle daily driving in my city, so I'm def trading my E46 M3 for the E92 after the first year

All 3 are absolutly fantastic cars, but given the option, the E92 M3 has won me over, no matter how much faster any of the other cars may be.

Our European Editor is from the U.S. originally. He now lives and works out of Milan. The "European Editor" tag is not supposed to describe him as "European." Instead, it describes his position at our magazine. He is our "European Correspondent," the guy in touch with European companies, and the guy going on most of the press trips that occur in the content that is Europe.
