Actually, the X in Xmas does not literally mean Christ. The sign for Christ included this sign, but also included other symbols (you know the fish bumper stickers). The Christians took the first letter, which happened to be an X, and painted it on their doors as a sign they were Christians. This was later used for Xmas. X does not literally mean Christ, but it is loosely translated to mean that.
