The Centaur

Centaur may symbolise a calvary unit as in Cent-aurs. 100 archers/spearmen on horseback. So Cent = 100. Alternatively it could be Cen - taur. Where taur means bull, as in taurus. So what is Cen? Or what is Aur?

Aur is latin for gold or golden. 100 Gold? .Also Aur is to do with hearing but less likely. Cen in latin is means new. So new bulls?

I think 100 archers on horseback is closer.

Unless cen pertains to cento = goad, prick. needle, Indicating cattle men or spearmen. Some say that a Human male Ixion mated with a Mare (female horse). But Mare also means "not real". He mated with a illusion of Hera called Nephele, a cloud nymph, who gave birth to Centaurus, a deformed child who mated with Horses. So Centaur might represent the impulsive side of our nature.
