  • You do realize that 'laser' is an acronym. haha, some people are retarded. I say gooey, and so does everyone else at me security researching lab. we are "professionals' that blow away crap software and products created to protect those products. So, haters will hate.

  • goo-e like who gives a shit how its pronounced

  • I can't get this to work. Ive sat here for ten minutes trying to figure out what was wrong but it just won't work! I can't get a button on the screen!

  • @Mikey1EE7 Did you put the script on a gameobject? And then check for typos? Remeber, the script is case-sensitive.

  • These tutorials really helped, thanks infiniteammoinc !

  • My GUI button doesn't appear. -_-

  • is there a way to use font on top of the skin rather then unity's default? and is it possible to change the skins color to say a light blue rather then the default grey? cnt tell ya how much I've struggled to making a window for my game...

  • i dont have both screens how do i get both screens?

  • @DeathShankable Drag the Game view somewhere else. Simple :)

  • I like to pronounce it "gwee".

  • Nice tutorial.

Just figured we'd keep the comment section related to the fucking video.

  • dear kids. in the field. it is pronouced gooey.

  • lol I've never heard someone call it GOOEY. But good tutorial.

  • It isn't pronounce "Gooey", some people just say it that way. It is really G-U-I. Which stands for:

    Graphic

    User

    Interface

I mean, not that it really matters how it's pronounced as long as we are talking about 1 thing.

  • lol i didnt know people pronounced it "gooey" =)

  • my script dosent work well

  • BCE0019: 'Button' is not a member of 'GUI'.

  • did not work download for script?

  • If you wouldn't use this for the front-end of your game, what should you use for that? What is the prescribed method for doing a polished menu screen?

  • gooey? wtf its GUI 3 letters

  • TBH, if in an interview you wouldn't get the job because you said "GUI", I wouldn't want to work there anyway.

  • Why in the hell has this comment section been turned into (no pun intended ) gooey GUI fest? Does it really matter

  • is it possible to get access from the GUI JavaScript File to functions of other JavaScript Files?

like: if Button was pressed, call the setXY() function in movement.js....

  • a small tip: don't name the JavaScript File "GUI.js" it will make problems.

  • I have copied the code WORD for WORD including caps, I am getting an error:

Assets/Scripts/GUI.js(3,13): BCE0019: 'Button' is not a member of 'GUI'.

  • @ViperCode1 I know that this was 3 months ago, but you can do GUILayout.Button. (For the people having similar issues.

  • that drives me nuts....I prefer to pronounce GUI as jee-you-eye. gooey just sounds retarded. Its not like GUI is 1 word, its an abbreviation for Grahpical User Interface, so it make zero sense to pronounce it as one word. ah well..i guess complaining wont help any.

  • LOL. I've been a game dev pro for 15 years.

We've always called it, "Gooey" for GUI.

  • so how would i go about making a gui pop up when i click on a game object with a already binded button (right click is binded as 'interact'

  • Thanks for your awesome tutorials! It has helped me a lot in the past. Also, i'm impressed by the way that you can talk while you type!!! Also, I appreciate these tutorials since I know it takes a bit of time to make and you are doing it absolutely for free...

    Cheers

  • I got a problem at 2:30... I have the exact code you do and I got these 3 errors:

    Assets/title.js(3,48): BCE0044: expecting ), found '.'.

Assets/title.js(3,49): UCE0001: ';' expected. Insert a semicolon at the end.

    Assets/title.js(3,62): BCE0043: Unexpected token: ).

    please respond, thank you.

  • im using pc and i put in var cubeRenderer:Renderer; but it doesent sho it in the inspector view

  • @TheDigitalTac0 It's pronounced both ways, I know many professionals who use "Gooey". I also think it's more fun, and don't give a flying fuck if it annoys anyone. :)

  • @infiniteammoinc yes infiniteammoinc is correct many prefetionals do say Gooye.

  • @infiniteammoinc dude, relax :P

  • @infiniteammoinc WoW! I was looking at some video tutorials for Unity, and the ones in the Unity home site do not work for me for some reason. Came looking for something and found this. Liked it a lot!

    I'll watch the others,

Cheers and congratulations for the great and pretty self-explanatory worK!

  • @infiniteammoinc Sorry to "beat a dead horse" but I've been a professional in the games industry for many years and everyone does indeed say "gooey" :) In fact, hearing someone say the letters "G - U - I" sounds really weird!

  • @infiniteammoinc It annoys the shit out of me when people say gooey because they ARENT GIVIN ME GOOEY STUFF TO EAT...but I will forgive you because you are a fellow canuck.

  • @infiniteammoinc It annoys the shit out of me but I never bother anyone about it, it's their own choice to pronounce it however the heck they want! and yes many many pros say gooey.

  • @TheDigitalTac0 i too use it both ways. proffesionals i know also use it both ways.

  • @TheDigitalTac0 I am in the profession. Nobody says, "hey, how is that G - U - I coming..."

  • @TheDigitalTac0 Guess what Mr.Professional. No one gives a fuck if you fail at thinking you can't say "gooey"

  • @TheDigitalTac0 I know a lot of professionals who are going to have to be downgraded now, apparently.

  • @TheDigitalTac0 why the hell do you care how he says it?

  • @TheDigitalTac0 your right gui isnt a word it just stands for graphical user interface

  • @TheDigitalTac0 Um actually no its commonly pronounced gooey as its an acronym not an initialism. If you knew anything about professionals you would understand that we don't particularly care.

  • you do not have to use the rect parameter for unity gui as it auto scales to text. Use rect when you need to define a button size regardless of text size.

  • hmm Im trying to do a game but I have stuck at questing thing. is it possible to do so when I pressing on a " Cube " for examble it will show up a text? and if it is can you please make a tutorial

  • @Felixfors and great tutorial too : ) awsome quility keep i up dude ! : D
