  • and this right here is why i love Samwise Gamgee

  • Great scene from TT can't wait for The Hobbit!!!!!!

  • I often find myself asking the same question as Frodo "what are we holding on to?" and wondering what is the point of all this? Why does so many bad things happen in this world? Then I remeber these words said by Sam and I realize that in the end, world isn't that bad a place, we just need to fight for what we hold dear.

  • One of the best scenes in the trilogy

  • GODDAMNIT Sean Astin is 40 already >:(

  • Sam is truly the definition of the unsung hero.

  • At 1:00 Aragorn has that look holy shit we won? Anyway great quote shows that there is hope even when you feel like giving up. One word interpratation: Perseverance

  • Not bad for a small hobbit gardener

  • I wish I had a friend like Sam...

  • This performance only made me love Sean Astin even more.

  • I don't cry fast, but at this scene I couldn't stop my tears going. It's so emotional!

  • See, this is why TT is the best movie. All the story threads relate to one another, and complement each other, and then they all come together in this final speech of Sam's; the movie has a distinct tone and theme. I always thought ROTK was a bit piecemeal by comparison, everything was a bit too splintered away, and it didnt really seem to be as solid.

  • This is the best line ever spoken

  • "There's some good in this world Mr. Frodo. And it's worth fighting for."

Such a cheesy cliche of a line that is handled brilliantly. Astin walks a very fine line in this scene and he does so beautifully.

  • This scene is the most heart touching in this whole movie.... great words by Samwise.

  • This, along with "My friends...you bow to no one." make this trilogy the best in the world, in my mind. Nay, not just the best trilogy in the world, but the best movies in the world, only rivalled by each other...and maybe the Good, the Bad and the Ugly. (That movie was undeniably a masterpiece too.)

  • This is why the second movie is my favourite. This speech makes me cry..

  • These 2 minutes are why this is my favorite movie ever.

  • Amazing

  • This is why Sean Astin is one of my favorite actors ever and why LOTR is so amazing

  • Sean Astin is my favorite actor. Every movie he is in is beautiful. Rudy, LotR, Goonies.

  • sam is a real friend, really rare to find a friend like him these days...

  • ALL-MY-FUCKING-TEARS

This is why Sam is my hero.

  • Gollum's reaction to this is priceless

  • And it is said the Grinch's heart grew three sizes that day.

  • How do I get rid of the soundtrack? I want to use this footage for a video tribute with different music.

  • @mkjmstl1 why would you ruin such a masterpiece? no other music will fit. sry. dont even try to argue. sry

  • Lord of the rings is just so fucking awesome, everytime I watch it I just think why is everything in it so perfect! My only gripe is I wish they were like 24 hours each and followed the book exactly, I would pay to watch them! It is just so damn amazing, when are they gonna make such awesome films again?

  • @agollaglee They aren't. There will never be films like this again. Just feel lucky enough that you were alive to see them or read the books.

  • @captaincool5 Partly wrong. The two Hobbit movies coming out will reach or maybe even surpass the level of the Lord of the Rings trilogy.

  • @agollaglee The hobbit, nuff said. Oh and I would love a version off LOTR that long,3.5-4.5 each isn’t enough.

  • you can see how this parallels with the ideas of a war survivor like Tolkien

  • where the hells that oscar

  • sam has a heart bigger than middle earth..

  • 22 orcs disliked this.

  • Whenever I hear this speech, it gives me hope and makes my day great. Lord of the Rings is one of those stories that stick with you, that mean something, even if you're too young to understand why. Thanks for putting this up, it's a great quote and I watch it all the time. :)

  • I didn't cry at Bambi, nor at Titanic, not even War horse. Not Saving Private Ryan, The Notebook and not even My little Dashie (hello Bronies).

But i did cry at Lord of The Rings, right here, right now. :')

  • @Willsr14 brohoof :' }

  • Wish we could "like" this video multiple times. lol. It's so true! Dammit Sam, motivational speaker.

  • Without the epic soundtrack, this movie would be crap.

  • @DbzTeenGohanSSJ2 Well, I dunno about "crap" but I understand the sentiment; this sound track by Howard Shore is one of the best I've ever heard, and is as much a part of this film as any of the actors. I'm glad it wasn't relegated to background music, but to the fore where it embellishes every scene in this trilogy! Between Jackson and Shore... and all the actors and film crew, they've created a masterpiece! Can't WAIT for The Hobbit now, 2013 for part One!

  • @FLAMEROX777 Well said. I guess they both deserve their fair share of credit. And The Hobbit will be in 2 parts?!

  • @DbzTeenGohanSSJ2 Last I heard when I checked out New Line Cinema's web site, the Hobbit is contracted to be filmed in 2 parts, simultaneously - like how they did LotR, so that they will primiere one year apart from each other.

  • @FLAMEROX777 Ahhh okay then. It better be EPIC!

  • @DbzTeenGohanSSJ2 movies are 50% sound

  • TEARS. TEARS ALL THE WAY DOWN MY FACE.

  • EMOTIONS

  • Whoever disliked this video didn't have anything to hold onto.

One of the best quotes in the trilogy! Thanks!

  • No words...

  • my dad loves this scene and i do too

  • And when the sun shines it will shine out the clearer. Those were the stories that stayed with you. That meant something, even if you were too small to understand why. But I think, Mr. Frodo, I do understand. I know now. Folk in those stories had lots of chances of turning back, only they didn’t. They kept going. Because they were holding on to something.

Frodo: What are we holding onto, Sam?

Sam: That there’s some good in this world, Mr. Frodo… and it’s worth fighting for.

    I LOVE THIS SCENE

  • Sam: I know. It’s all wrong. By rights we shouldn’t even be here. But we are. It’s like in the great stories, Mr. Frodo. The ones that really mattered. Full of darkness and danger, they were. And sometimes you didn’t want to know the end. Because how could the end be happy? How could the world go back to the way it was when so much bad had happened? But in the end, it’s only a passing thing, this shadow. Even darkness must pass. A new day will come.

  • Cant wait until the hobbit releases. But The Lord Of The Rings wills stay the epiciest mogie ever sry for my english

  • I always watch this when I'm having a hard time ... because I need to be reminded that it's only a passing thing! :)

  • I keep refreshing so this video can have more views. I love Lord Of The Rings.

  • thumbs up if this was the first you tube video you watched in 2012! :)

  • Epic, cant wait for the hobbit

  • "how can the world go back to the way it was when so much bad has happened, but in the end it's only a passing thing. the shadow, even darkness must pass, and day will come, and when the sun shines it will shine out the clearer" -Samwise Gamgee-

  • "There's some good in this world Mr. Frodo and it's worth fighting for"

Such a cheesy line that is handled so beautifully

  • The Lord of the Rings movies are the only movies I can watch literally at any given moment, even right after watching them. No movie has ever been so epic, or come even close for that matter. So many unique and memorable scenes, all in one place.

  • Sauron made 22 acounts and disliked this. Maybe he made Saruman do it, too...

  • Sean Astin is sexy.

  • Even Gollum was touched.

  • @MrHilligan4 not for long....

  • @MrHilligan4 haha, true

  • that speech is exactly for what happends now in the war with all the wars and the bad things that happens we still need to fight for a greater good!

  • <3

  • No one can avoid Sams awesome, but emotional speechs.

  • every individual who put any effort whatsoever into making this scene has unknowingly saved my life on more than one occasion. i come to this speech when i'm at my lowest. i know for a fact i'm not the only person who can say that. i'm not saying it should hold that much meaning to all, but anyone who can actually dislike this, say that it's stupid or not "epic" must obviously be a cold hearted and idiotic fool.

  • @123LittleBastard Unfortuantty you are a huge dumbass. Was Batman ever a ground breaking novel series? No. Were both of the series that you just mentioned groundbreaking novel series'? Yes. These, unlike batman, have a genius behind the cover. And usually behind the camera.

Sincerely, Guy who is fucking excited for The Hobbit and The Dark Knight Rises.

  • @123LittleBastard and that is because you are a complete retard.... they are an escape and a difference from the real world. and u are the dumbest twat in the world to think batman is epic... that is a glamorised piece of shit made by a company who saw the opportunity to make money from a comic and took it.

Films like The Lord of the Rings hold so much more meaning than dumb-fuck audiences like you see. get a life and get some knowledge instead of insulting THE best films ever.

    your gay btw

  • @123LittleBastard Do you just troll vids on youtube and tell people what is good contrary to what is good to begin with? The thought of anyone trying to explain to you how comical it is to even bring Batman to LOTR's level to your dumb brain is waste of time. Your not fooling anyone you little bastard. Lotr is epic and where the fuck did harry potter get into this?!

  • @123LittleBastard "Your argument stands weak and baseless and without tangible proof...May the wisdom of the Valar blind you and burn you, for you are the working of Sauron's madness".

  • @123LittleBastard if you dont like it why were u looking at it in the first place?

  • @123LittleBastard

Where did your brain just fly off to? At least Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter have good morals and lessons that stick with you even if you're too young to understand! what does Batman do? (sorry, this came out a little meaner then I first planned...)

  • God bless Samwise Gamgy.

  • favorite part is gollums face 2:10

  • 2:10 Gollum: "Well damn, I feel like an asshole now."

  • there's 22 fags out there.

  • i love lord of the rings. i wish they would put it back in the movie theater. its the best movie of all time. i bet everyone can agree.

  • @cbc754 One of the best.

  • I disliked this.

  • @123LittleBastard i disliked your comment.

  • One of the three best quotes ever in the whole trilogy!!!!!! Thank you so much!

  • In the book Sam starts the story as a loveable, bumbling, comical character and as the danger he faces becomes more and more acute he develops into a brave and upstanding member of the fellowship. His moments of hilrarity perfectly balanced the menace of the threat of Sauron. Sean Astin never once made me laugh in the movie. But that was probably down to P. Jacksons directing.

  • This and Neville Longbottums speech! xx

  • 9 years ago i saw this for my 11th birthday. 9 years later, this is still my favorite speech of all time, and still the most relevant to my life. I always tear up to this

  • ya harry potter rules

  • @uhhh54321 obvious troll is obvious

  • @uhhh54321 not as much as any LOTR film

  • What's the soundtrack of when sams speak??

  • @martver12 'Samwise the Brave'

  • Oh my god... This is so deep and one of the most amazing movie moments ever... I love it. It's the most inspirational movie quote, because not only does it sum up the whole feeling of the Lord of the Rings, but it can be translated into our lives too.

  • Even Gollum was touched by Sams wise words

  • Every time I find someone that tells me he found LotR boring or thought it was a bad movie I would just LOVE to take this scene out of my pocket and rub it on theyr orc faces

  • Comment removed

  • 3 Hurrahs to Samwise!

The REAL hero of the Lord of the rings

  • Favourite quote from the entire trilogy!!

  • Probably my favorite quote from the trilogy and a wise saying for all of life.

  • I remember this in theaters and looking around and everyone was crying.

  • Comment removed

  • i fucking love this clip so much

  • Thumbs up if the Lord of the Rings was the story that stayed with you, and meant something, even if you were too small to understand why.

  • @PrincessButtercup128 when i first watched it, it was just a great movie. now that i'm older (still a teen), it means so much more. it's better every time i watch it. this story will stay with me for the rest of my life.

  • Frodo really can be a whiny bitch sometimes

  • This, for me, was my favourite scene out of all three movies.

  • I cry watching this scene...its perfect.

  • Smeagol's face at the end... absolutely priceless

  • when u close ur eyes and mute everthing in ur house man its bietiful iv cried like every time man

  • the only difference between Frodo and Golum is SAM, this is the reson why Frodo mange to remain himself while Smigol changed into Golum

    Friendship, loyality and love

This is the best movie/story ever!

  • @moti43 You are so right! Sam is the true hero of this story. Frodo would have succumbed to evil just like all the others without him.!

  • i was gonna comment but i was too moved by the speach to take my eyes off my computer...anyways...i wish i had a friend like sam <3

  • Causes me to have some hope yet for the West. Corruption and decay has plagued us, we are weak. But there is still time, there is still hope, we will rise again.

  • @angelmarine1292

It is not the "West", it is human nature. Corruption isn't exclusive to any single part of the world.

  • @adm491 But it is particularly applicable to Western Europe and the United States at the moment. A fallen culture, lack of education, and petty politicians. We are being rapidly replaced by races that care to actually reproduce, in effect, we are in the Winter of western civilization.

We are a second Gondor. More so than any other comparison in the real world.

  • this has got to be one of the most touching and heartfelt speechs from any movie that has ever and will ever be produced.

  • Im 18 year old army soldier and I balled my eyes out when I saw this

  • Everything will be ok in the end. And if everything isn't ok, its not the end.

  • Anyone else notice that when Frodo holds the sword to Sam's neck it's practically the exact same position as Gollum when they first met him?

    Loved that juxaposition.

  • i love this.

  • Is there a 'Absolutely Love' button?

  • Is Sam a hobbit self help guru?

  • This speech gets me every time

  • i still cant believe this makes me teary

  • i find it amazing some of the story's ive found reading these comments

  • This was the scene that elevated "The Two Towers" from "great" to "classic," for me anyway. A truly brilliant scene orchestrated by a truly brilliant director.

  • @mco119 And Actors.

  • Mr. Frodo we can't turn back. I have to follow my dream. I want to were my Gold helmet and run out onto the field. I want my Dad and my Brother to be proud. I'm sorry Mr. Frodo but I have to leave to play for Notre Dame. GO IRISH!!!!!!!!!

  • @IMPALEXANDERAVG

    americans are not european,good sir.

    just kidding

  • most memorable monologue ever

  • 21 people are gollum impersonators...

  • Sam is such a loyal companion to Frodo. I honestly hated it how much hell he got from Frodo in Return of the King yet how, in the end, he still remained loyal. If I had a friend like Sam, I would count myself extremely lucky.

  • @Killzoneguy117 To be fair the ring is a powerfull influence, I mean it turned Smeagal into a right crackhead =D

  • @Plekky08 They really really love Shiny things in Middle Earth.

  • *favourite

  • I can't WAIT for return of the king!

  • This make's me feel both sad and happy at the same time.

  • i always turn to this video when i feel like i have nothing left to hope for. i know the words by heart, but watching this and hearing sam speak them make me feel better each time, no matter what

  • I love how happy Gandalf looks when he kills that uruk-hai.

  • My friend just died suddenly of an anneurysm...only 18. Known her since kindergarten...She is my best friend. And when I heard the news, my first thought was that my Sam was gone. And so with my Facebook status, I posted this link. Because this summed up Allie and what she'd want us all to think. Appreciate "your Sam" for all that he/she is. And if you lose them, come back to this thought. "Even darkness must pass."

  • Sam is the greatest hobbit in the movie

  • "I think at Last Mr.Frodo we understand one another..."

Faramir completes my thoughts on this speech :)

  • @lilcreationher yeah, Faramir was great, very wise!^^ I love Sam too!

  • Sean Astin deserved an Oscar for this!

  • @siridavidsen true.

  • *cry cry* BRILLIANT SAM!!!!! ABSOLUTLY BRILLIANT!!!!!! NO WORDS CAN DESCRIBE YOUR AWESOMENESS IN THIS SPEECH!!!!! b

  • This gives me the chills.

  • the best speech ever... :)

    leaves you speechless every time

  • speech for the ages

  • I watch this once (or more) a week, and it never fails to make me misty-eyed.

  • Yeah, seriously, Sam is probably my favorite hobbit. Without Sam, Frodo would not have made it and think about it. That means no Middle Earth. Wow, Go Sam! & also, Sean Astin's performance touched us all. He most definitely deserves an Oscar.

  • I cry everytime

  • @samyb123 Same! And it made me think Gollum would change, sadly. :(

Does anyone know if this speech is also in the book, or if it's from the moviemakers alone?

  • @CanidaeCrazy I think it's heavily edited from the book. Mostly made for the movie.

  • @Lunarvx22 I figured. Well hats off to them because this speech is incredible, as is Sean's performance. Thanks!

  • @Lunarvx22 Thanks!

  • This speech describes this movie through my childhood

  • PLEASE ALLOW EMBEDDING! :(

  • This speech is so epic that it sent Gollum into some deep thoughts.

The epicness of this speech has no boundaries. Sean Austin really deserved an Oscar.

  • Was this speech in the book?

  • @MegaClam1 No. This was written by Boyens and Walsh.

  • @chemfreak018 ,

    Thanks

  • @MegaClam1 Actually most parts of the speech is edited from the book. But the last line "There's good in this world, and its worth fighting for." is not/

  • How can the end be happy?

  • So epic

  • The Lord Of The Rings has to be the greatest movies ever! The speeches alone are so motivational. This must be my favourite one of all. Thank you Tolkien for creating this, it has tought me never to go back, that there is no going back! and this speech will forever be in my heart.

  • @themenaceanish

You just watched it though? Were you that bored as to look up videos you think are gay because you just sit around watching YouTube and playing dungeons and dragons. Give this kid some more doritos for his period.
