Have to learn this song as a first dance for a wedding, possibly the worst song I've ever heard. The chords used, Minors and 7th's would be more suited to a song depicting famine or complete despair. And this mans singing is so mundane it drives me crazy listening to him.
@Chriswinters1...I don't think you have to worry about anything driving you crazy, it's obvious you're already there. Also, the chords in this song are Major 7th's and Minor 7th's, some of the most beautiful sounding chords and the least likely to be heard in a song of despair.
I had the honor to tell him personally, "Every time you sing this song, every woman in the audience believes she is (beautiful) during those 3 minutes."
I got married to this song. "Softly" was then played for the wedding party dance. My mother introduced me to Gord in the 1970's and he's been my favorite ever since. The only singer I find comparable in talent is Jeff Buckley (totally different genre).
Gordo is my all time favorite solo artist. His songs have been a part of my life since high school. What a voice, what a writer, what a talent..........................
these beautiful lyrics from the best of the best is dedicated to all my beautiful nieces...love you Michelle Jillian Ginette, Krissy Jasmin Amihan and Samiah
@bowdeyv continued...(to my nieces above) Shannon, Sophia, Venessa and la petite toutoune....loves and (((hugs))) You make my heart sing Gordon Lightfoot.
Like a fine wine he has weathered so much and still "Class Act", what a gifted musician, thank you Gordon Lightfoot for so many years of enjoyable music, we lovers of your music are truly grateful.
I give him 'props for surviving and still getting out there and playing, even after all these years!!! I saw him last year in Nashville at the Ryman, he did great!
@Fubishay i dont consider him pathetic now. yes hes aged, plus hte brain aneurism has taken its toll Eh?. but still he does it for his fans who pay to see it.
Memories, I have to listen to it.. To learn it! Really wish I didn't have to

@yamahonkawazuki Actually, G.L. suffered a stomach aneurism in 2002, I believe the same thing
that caused the death of John Ritter. G.L. has said he probably survived due to the fact that for over
25 years he has worked out in a gym regularly.

@musiclover3x i stand corrected. an abdominal aortic aneurism. ( sorry my true mistake ).
