I first got turned on Ricks music thru gary p nunn, gary always had a song or two written by rick on every album just about. then in the early nineties i met rick at the three teardrops tavern in dallas at a larry joe taylor gig.heck of a nice guy and one heck of a song writer bar none.another meeting in luchenbach.ricks' music just about mimiced my lifestyle back then.meeting rick was a great encounter for me,his music was great.i didnt realize he had died, but his music will still live on.
I'm sorry i just realized i never answered your comment. Thanks for all your info, it was really interesting. I always like to learn how a song was made or a little avbout the artists themselves. Thanks again
@LeCrazyFrenchman , yes most times but does have a lot tunes out the C position too.I find that a lot of his tunes out of the D position easier to pick out of the C position with capo on 2. Like Cayouche told me one night at a party ";it's easier on the fingers" haha..Salut!
Lyrics & music were recorded & written by life-long friend Rick Cardwell. He grew up outside Waco at Rock Creek, TX. We lost him on April 26, 2009 but will by his own promise join his open arms when I cross that river myself. He leaves 1 beloved daughter, Diedra. He was a treasure. Rick - first love & last love. The song was about his Grandaddy McCrary on the home-place across from Tickle's Store. He's my Forever Love. Rick's Girl, Always.
i'm really sorry for your lost. Thanks for commeting. This youtube is amazing. I never knew Ricky but i get to learn a little everytime someone comments. Thqnks
I didn't Rick myself but he must have been some kind guy for all these people commenting about him on my video.I'm glad in way that I could be of help.
I'm sorry to hear of Rick's passing. He and I were friends years ago in Waco. He played this song for me right after he wrote it. This and another that he taught me called "Dear John Letter Lounge" were recorded by Jerry Jeff Walker.
Thanks for your kind comment. The chords are very straight forward. Starts witd D then G and the A. The chorus part is G-D-A with a few variations but follow me along a couple of time and I"m sure you'll figure it out. I'm just curious, what part of Canada are you from? take care
Just a little note. Rick Cardwell did indeed write this song. I don't think Rick ever recorded any songs. It first appeared on a Jerry Jeff Walker Album. Rick has had several songs recorded by Gary P. Nunn. I also wish I could connect with Rick. Haven't seen him in years.
My brother recorded rick 3 times in the last year on video. I am sorry for your loss. He just got to be my friend in the last year. My mother Marti is close rick's friend robert casey. I will be at his funeral. TJ Ermoian

I'm looking for Rick....We're dear, dear friends......and I've lost touch with him. He is a great song writer...and a wonderful man. If you know his site, please let me know. Thank you Phyllis Ivey
I'm really sorry but I can't help you. I've look on the internet but I couldn't find anything. I really don't know much about him that I found the lyrics for that song. Sorry!
Ricky Cardwell will be at the Blaze-o-Rama show (tribute for Blaze Foley) on Oct. 17 @ Ruta Maya in Austin. Ricky goes on after Gurf Morlix. Ricky is "old school" and "doesn't do" computers.
Phyllis, hope you were able to see Rick again. he just pased away on April 26 and they will bury him tomorrow. Gary P Nunn came to the funeral to pay his respects.
