@solarlightning I doubt it, the airbag doesn't hit the occupant during inflation, which is what causes burns. The airbag cools some before the driver's head and chest hit it. It would definitely be hot, yes, but not so hat as to cause burns. I'm young too, turning 19 at the end of the year, so my bones are still very resilient (:

In this crash, the seatbelt "saves" the driver - without it the dummy would slam into the windshield/steering wheel because the airbag isn't strong enough to stop an unbelted person flying forward at 40 mph - if it was, it'd hurt a belted driver badly. Also - airbags have limited space to expand (a foot in front of the dummy) and the seat belt keeps the dummy against the seat while the bag expands at 200 mph, stopping an inch or two from the dummy.

Why he hell does BMW deploy side airbags during a frontal collision... For this reason I will not buy a BMW. My C-Class mercedes has saved my life in a highway incidence. I was involved in an accident where my front airbags went off, and my vehicle was later t-boned by another car traveling in the next lane over. Then the side curtian airbags deployed, probably saving my life. Airbags are only effective during the first few seconds of a collision

I own a 325i sports package and I hate it. There has been so many problems it's almost hard to believe. Entire entertainment system/navigation died randomly, got that fixed, then the knob on the shifter comes off randomly twice, got that fixed, then the front tires needed replacement cuz they were making a loud noise, got that fixed, then the clutch pedal popped loose, had to get it towed, got that fixed, and then an hour after I got it fixed, happened again. I have lost alot of respect for BMW

I remember looking a Merc where I live which a mechanic I knew said not to buy it as they just cannot fix the recurring problems.
