Pitty can't fly to NAB. Schiphol closed! Best choise IMHO for videographers with a cinematographers eye: Panasonic GH1. LCD-screen can turn towards presentator. Low weight for better & cost effective handling. Ideal for own presentations to increase your websitetraffic and sales! (Search YouTube: "GlobalDVC teleprompter" to see GH1 results. Free GH1 Intro workshop at GlobalDVC Zandvoort Holland)
That's the one feature I've missed with my mam's DSLR (which may as well be mine...) I can take such sharp pictures with it and it's got such a good lense but it doesn't shoot video. As a result I use my camcorder which is decent and does have a lovely 16GB built in memory but it still doesn't compare to the DSLR.
@ornitorrinco01 the size of the sensor is the same as 35mm film, that's what's so amazing about shooting video with a DSLR. in regular video cameras the sensor is much smaller, closer to the size of my little finger nail. the smaller sensor size results in a much deeper focus.when everything is in focus the image looks flat and dull. outside of DSLRS, if you want to shoot shallow DOF moving images on any other large sensor camera, you need to spend tens of thousands of dollars.
@DandRFilms1 Thanks for the info, vimeo is a great site, I have been checking it out as you suggested. I am amazed at the quality that DSLR can produce, I am especially impressed by what I have read about the Canon EOS 5D Mark II. This is exciting stuff!
@Silenthawk98 Awesome thanks, I searched 7D/5D videos like you suggested and I am amazed at what I am learning. I never knew that DSLRs could have so much potential for video.
@Silenthawk98 I still prefer the Panasonic GH1. I like 720 60P for slowmotion and it doesn't overheat or have a 12min record limit. Oh, and the articulating screen. It's actually the best stills/video combo. The Canon's still feel like video was an afterthought.
Ive never seen a DSLR overheat, maybe a tad warm, but that's about it. The Panasonic uses the weaker AVCHD-Lite codec, and compresses a lot more. I think the tilt screen is definite blow for canon, but when you look at it,
@Silenthawk98 Really? Almost EVERY 7D user will tell you that if they record consecutive files after about 40 minutes it'll overheat. There are posts of the T2i overheating on Vimeo. Just do a quick search. btw... T2i - $900 with crap kit lens. GH1- $1400 at most with very good kit lens. You can get a GH1 for $1100 from amazon.
Great for movies

Can someone explain to me why you would use a DSLR still camera in cinema?
ornitorrinco01 1 year ago
@ornitorrinco01 they shoot HD video, so you can have badass still camera, and do some decent side cinema work
Brucey69 1 year ago
@Brucey69 But would you get good video quality from a still camera? Especially cinema quality?

@ornitorrinco01
Because you can get almost film quality for 1 or 2 grand. Much better lenses and sensors.
Most $1000 camcorders simply can't get a nice depth of field, without completely zooming in entirely. As well, HDV is such a bitch to work with.
Search up some 7D/5D videos and see for your self at how well DSLR's record video.

Canon's running the show when it comes to DSLR's for video.
5D, 7D and the 550D. All 1080 24p.
