  • Why doesn't he talk about The Animated Series? He was the only actor who was in all the episodes and movies featuring the original crew, so I would think he'd talk about all of it.

By the way, The Cage isn't the only episode of the original Trek that featured Spock but not Kirk. There was an animated episode as well, which is the main reason I'm wondering why it wasn't discussed.

  • 2:44 'This is our place of my family. This is our place of Hakuna Matata' is what I was half-sure Spock was gonna say here; and the phrase turned out to be something opposite.

  • Has Nimoy ever done any books on tape?

  • @ItchythaWookiee He has done I Am Spock, which is his second autobiography. :)

  • @StoneKnivesBearskins I should check that out. I've read the book and loved it, but his voice is so good.

  • @ItchythaWookiee If you are interested, I uploaded a clip of it here on YouTube. :)

  • @ItchythaWookiee

    Yes, Many

  • Pike is pretty hot though

  • 2 People here not in Space!

  • dose any one know what was up with Leonard nimoys leg? cause he was limping in many scenes.

  • @scorpioman1000

    He has a wooden leg.

He lost it in Iwa Jima.

  • @scorpioman1000

He probably hurt his leg or something.

  • @scorpioman1000 That limp is left over from the underused 'Rigel VII battle' back story. The crew were all hurt and rapped up. You can even see Lylers hand all bandaged up in the bridge scenes.

You remember Pikes line to his bridge crew: "You feel up to it?" ?

  • Now we know that the communicators that we thought were high tech were actually low-tech cell phones. No video or texting even though it's hundreds of years into the future! And that screen on the bridge was a large flat-screen TV or maybe a small Jumbotron! We still don't have the transporter, though. Considering how often that thing failed on an Enterprise that supposedly had the best engineering crew in Starfleet, that's probably a good thing!

  • Interesting that he says in this video that he and Shatner have been friends ever since Star Trek. I've seen him in other videos saying that he usually tries to avoid Shatner. Once in a while, he said, he can't help himself and talks to William Shatner.

  • @MrMg0918 - They've had spats before, both admit to that, but ultimately they're the closest friends you'll ever find anywhere.

  • This video is awesome !!! Thanks for upload it !!!

  • Suits at IBM missed out one the personal computer market to - so much for "Higher Learning". This series will be alive long into the future's grand children. Until it becomes reality like the communicator and the cell-phone. Live long and prosper indeed...

  • If they had gotten rid of Spock...whew...Star Trek woulda probably sucked. :P

  • When I was a little girl, I loved watching Star Trek! Spock was my first love <3

  • @poopysheets

    me

  • @poopysheets

    me to

  • shouldn't they have left a guard on that time gate, or destroyed it or something?

  • ... but Nimoy IS a Vulcan.

  • A new chemistry? aww

  • Is this where we got "Class M" as a designation for an earthlike planet?

  • 'City on the edge of forever' & 'Assignment: Earth' are two of my favourites. Indeed, the two are connected through the prospect of nuclear conflict. I have met up with a similar dilemma, in respect to the two A-bombs dropped on Japan. It creates a moral conflict in this era. But, as with 'City on the edge of forever', the events have to be analysed in 1940s terms.

  • They aired this recently on the Space channel in Canada.

  • More recently, Nimoy hosted a Star Trek marathon on TV and said that he was not the first choice to be Mr. Spock. He said Gene Roddenberry had considered the actor George Lindsey for the role. Of course, Lindsey did go on to fame on the Andy Griffith Show as Gomer Pyle's cousin, Guber.

P.S - I wish Lindsey had gotten the part along with Don Knotts as Capt. Kirk, Floyd Lawson (Floyd the Barber) as Scotty & Francis Bavier (Aunt Bea) as Uhura.

  • @bondurango I would also cast, Hal Smith, who played Otis Campbell (Otis the drunk) as Mr. Sulu.

  • Ah, i remember this Star Trek Special. It did ran in the early 90s on german TV, dubbed of course but having Mr. Nimoys german Dubb voice from Star Trek again.

I love this special because it gave a really interesting insight from Mr. Nimoys point of view.

  • yasss!!

  • Spock is my all time favorite TV character. To my delight, he has managed to appear in other ST series and movies. I have followed Mr. Nimoy over the years and find him to be humorous and inspiring. I watched the original series as a kid. I must confess that I had a crush on Kirk, but wanted to be Spock!

  • Best Spock quote ever: (on the decision to retire the Enterprise)

"If I were human, I believe I would say 'Go to hell.' But I am not human."

  • Wow, if she were on the Moon or Mars, she wouldn't have died since there are no cars there...yet. Earth is truly the Death Star.

  • a bus driver in my neighbourhood look like leonard nimoy,

toa payoh interchange republic of singapore.

    a great likeness

  • What a talented person what I wouldn't give to meet him but that will never happen as I am wrong side of the atlantic Leonard Nimoy ticks all the boxes for me voice, looks and talent .. leaves many in the shadows but what a price he paid for it all Heaven thank you for giving us this wonderful man and helping him to cope with his problems god bless you Leonard Nimoy

  • "He knows, doctor. He knows." That is one of my favorite episodes!!!! Its so sad!

  • in "city on edge of forever"there is some paradoxes there that makes it so it does not work at all. When the doctor ran through the thing and changed past.scotty and the rest would not be waiting there for anyone to return from the past for they would not be there. The portal said"everything you knew is gone",there would be nothing for them to return to.

  • @dapletd

time paradoxes are always a fishy thing.

We could assume the portal had itself some kind of force field that protected the landing party.

  • @zensorship

You are right! that is the only way it would make any sense.

  • I cried when seeing city at the edge of forever. Oh my dear captain kirk

  • Has anyone noticed that you've never seen Leonard Nimoy and Barack Obama in the same place? Chew on that!

  • @dinosaurdino

Black Vulcans were introduced with "Voyager" (Tuvok), not in TOS.

  • @zensorship I stand corrected.

  • Nimoy is a class act. Alot of stars would be sick to death of their character...40yrs! Nimoy has come to terms with Star Trek and his fans and has realized they have given him something not every actor will achieve...a character that is loved by millions and that has generated thought, talk and introspection; a more than comfortable living. I just don't feel that from Shatner. Although Shatner may have his Emmys, give me Nimoy any day.

  • At one point, he did get sick of the character, and wrote a novel about it. He warmed up to the role, of course, and is still doing it after 33-34 years.

  • @eddievhfan1984 : No. Read "I Am Not Spock", which is no doubt the book you are referring to. The title was widely misinterpreted. Guess what? In fact, Leonard Nimoy is not literally Spock.

The title of his 1995 book "I Am Spock" was a reaction to the wide-spread misinterpretation of the title of the 1977 book. This myth needs to be laid to rest once and for all.

  • @sbergman27 Yeah, I wouldn't say he exactly got "sick" of his character, rather (and this was mainly was "IANS" focused on) he wanted to be seen as MORE than just Spock. He wanted to be recognized as Leonard Nimoy as well. In 1977 that was difficult for him. However, after proving to be not only a marvelous actor, but director and photographer as well he has gone on to make quite a name for himself outside of the ST franchise as well. It's well deserved for he is truly a medley of talent.

  • ah! wait where are his ears!? ;)

  • I am so glad they re-casted and got Shatner in there. I can't imagine how the show would be if it wasn't for the chemistry between Shatner and Nimoy.

  • wow, i havent seen this since i was a teenager. My family got their very first VCR (betamax no less! LOL) and it was one of the first things I taped... and then watched to smithereens. I was 13 years old. this really does bring back memories. thanks for posting this!!

  • So a search for TJ Hooker Lost Episode, it's pretty funny.

  • ooh i watched it and yes it was quite funny! thanks for the awesome vid recommendation, way better than what youtube recommends lol.

  • Is it just me, or does Leonard Nimoy have the sexiest voice in the universe? And City at the Edge of Forever is one of mah favorites too! :D

    -Evilsmileyface666 >: )

  • @evilsmileyface666 It's not just you. Ooohhh, it's NOT just you.

  • @evilsmileyface666 i'd have to say that the sexiest voice in the universe is a tie between Leonard Nimoy, Patrick Stewart, Sean Connery, Neil DeGrasse Tyson, & Carl Sagan ^^

    ........but thats just me :P

  • @evilsmileyface666 You know from Trek history Nemoy and crew reported the girls were ga ga over him, and that more than one thought his ears and eyebrow make up was Devilishly sexy. It's not just you. I would laugh; but Vulcans are incapable of feeling the required emotion behavior requisite... Excuse me. 'Time to meditate about how logic keeps us Vulcans from orgiastic promiscuity and tearing each others throats out. Vulcan women you know; they're so damned sexy. Where's that candle!!!

  • @evilsmileyface666 So true =3

  • @evilsmileyface666 if your a woman.. or a gay man I suppose..

  • @evilsmileyface666 nope. Not just you.

  • NEED A TIME MACHINE!! id use it and run onto that set and take him home...:D...ahh dirty thoughts in a tardis ensue...

  • Can I come with you?!

  • Nimoy is the man.

  • I have this on video tape and was actually thinking of looking for it about a week ago. Guess I won't have to look now.

  • i saw this today on my t.v lol

  • I saw it on TV too, it's part of the current TOS syndication package, to up the number of episodes to 80.

  • Sadly, not TOS-R (The Original Series-Remastered) for whatever reason, so you've got to get this off of YouTube, like I will soon.

  • Why did he bash 'The Man Trap'? And in the first minute of the show no less!

I thought it was a good episode.

  • Wow, this man doesn't age! It's been almost 20 years since TOS, yet he still looks the same!:D

  • nice music at ca. 2.48.

do you know who scored that episode?

  • That Pike was a freakin' idiot.

  • "I also like any of the ones where I jam out on the Vulcan lyre."

  • I'm really glad Shatner got the role over the Pike character. I'm still kinda new to the series, and Kirk hasn't been my favorite - I love Leonard's Spock - but watching this makes me appreciate Kirk more, and what he brought to the series. Yeah, the Shatman is starting to grow on me... <3

  • Simply, pike was incredibly boring...

  • NEW MOVIE ROCKS !! UR THE BEST Leonard Nimoy Thanks for all the years of Star Trek !

  • The Original Series only lasted three years

  • It`s not... not at all!!

  • If you're into such idiotic crap, such as Friends and Sex and the City...I could see how this would seem rather "boring", as you put it.

  • I love Friends, and Star Trek. =]

  • I like "United Star Ship" Enterprise rather than "United Space Ship" Enterprise..

  • That story was written by Harlan Ellison & years later he published the original script. In it, a guest star (not McCoy, but a crew member) deals in 'drug music' - sound waves that get people stoned. He tries to get away by jumping thru the time portal. In March 2009, Ellison filed suit against Paramount for payment of 25% of net receipts from merchandising, publishing and other income from the episode since 1967. The suit also names the Writers Guild for failing to act on his behalf.

  • @bondurango I think you'll find it originally had SCOTTY dealing drugs! And Gene Roddenbury didn't let that script happen, for obvious reasons :P

  • @Robotdrummerzzk From Wikipedia: "In the original script, Lieutenant Richard Beckwith, a drug dealer selling the illegal "Jewels of Sound", kills Lieutenant LeBeque after he threatens to expose Beckwith's activities. After escaping to the planet's surface, with Captain Kirk, Mr. Spock, Yeoman Rand, and six Security guards close on his heels, he enters a Time Vortex, watched over by the Guardians of Forever, to escape." The time changes cause the Enterprise to become a pirate ship.

  • "Broader Acting Style" HA, that's putting it mildly. don't get me wrong, i love Star Trek and Captain Kirk, but William Shatner takes over acting to a whole new level.

  • @calliesaiyan Star Trek wouldnt be the same without him. It would be boring without Shatner. He is what made Trek so enjoyable and fun

  • I am so glad that the didn't, as they put it, "get rid of the guy with the ears." Spock is my favourite character.

  • I would of liked to have seen Jefferey Hunter do more

  • I have never seen this until now. thank you very kindly! live long and prosper

  • Thank you! This is our favorite ST special, and it's very hard to find.

  • The original trailer was great, and so was Jeffrey Hunter. But still im glad they choose Shatner. The relationship between Kirk and Spock was brilliant

  • WOW this is cool!! I like seeing these vintage specials!

  • Yep that was definitely one of my favorite episodes too. Thanks for posting this. :]

  • Have you seen the one when they try to save the whales?

  • OMG YES- He has a swimmers body!! =DDD and also i like it when he says hell alot

  • This is amazing. Unbelievably cool. Thank you so much for posting.

  • Thank you so much for all the great videos!

  • Now that's good scifi.

  • Didnt Shatner host a special too? I could've sworn he did but cant find it anywhere.

  • JCStriktland - Yes, Shanters' version was entitled "Captains Chair" It was also available on video, and aired occasionally.

  • Do you have it?

    Can you post it?

  • "I've always been moved by that story."

Me too, Mr. Nimoy, me too.

  • Where did you get this???

  • PieFights - This was available on VHS, back in the 1980s. It also aired on UHF stations from time to time over the years.

  • All hail the TREK!

  • Star Trek and Leonard Nimoy are both brilliant :)

  • STAR TREK RULES!!!!!

  • Love it! Thanks for posting! IDIC!

  • gene was a true genius .rip ,,i grew up with this and it made me a modern tolerant and very open minded person

  • You are so right, my own father was very racist against black people and was observing Star Trek that I realised he could only be wrong about this therefore today I´m always trying to be more tolerant and open minded with different culture and people, thanks Gene.

  • At the first Star trek convention in 73, Roddenberry said.." I had to get rid of the woman in order to keep the alien character on the show. I then married the woman, but later realized..I could not possibly have done it the other way around!"

  • ''some think we were still making them today!'' -if only...if only-

indeed powerfull episode...non of the spin-off shows ever came close to that,

  • We need a Star Trak and Dr Who movie.

  • Yes Indeed!

  • sounds good lol :)

  • Star TRek FOREVER!

  • I heard Number One was cut by NBC because the network thought it was a conflict of interests for the executive producer of the show to be dating and married to one of the performers, not because they couldn't believe a female could be the XO of a starship.

  • Roddenberry was not involved with Majel until much later. If what you suggest was true, she never would've gotten the role as Christine Chapel.

  • Roddenberry was not involved with Majel until much later. If what you suggest was true, she never would've gotten the role as Christine Chapel.

  • i agree the episodes that wernt the pilots of tos were waybetter capt pike sucks no offense

  • dont start your name we know who you are you rock dude

  • he knows dr., he knows.

  • is that....nancy...doctor?

  • This was made during the fall of 1983 as Star Trek

III:The Search For Spock was being made.

  • The monster in that early episode of Star Trek reminds me of a Morlock from the Time Machine. Even died the same, slumped against the wall with his head down.

  • How did his nose get bigger as he grew older?

  • Because he is jewish.

  • hmm,I only asked because I felt that perhaps alcohol had something to do with the corpusels around the nose etc.

  • I don´t know.

  • Oh wow, all of their noses got bigger, even Shatners! I guess it just happens naturally as you age. I guess I better go check mine now!!

  • try not to rub it, blow your nose gently, otherwise the skin gets thicker. also dont sleep resting to hard on your ears they grow larger too. ...hang on, gotta check mine.

  • Ha ha ,,,You know I will take your recommendations at face value though..I don't want to end up looking like George Burns...

  • As you get older, your nose and ears continue to grow. =)

  • Did the network really love it enough to order a second pilot? Or because the first one was so expensive to make, they wanted to give one more chance (after retooling to keep the suits happy) to reap the costs of the first pilot back? Possibly a combo of both...

  • Awesome, thank you very much.

  • This was the first thing I ever recorded on a VCR. I still have it, but it is not in great shape (like me!) Thanks so much!

  • The network told Gene (Roddenberry)to get rid of the guy with the ears! Wow! That blows my mind! Go figure that one out. Gene was right for battling on. Good on you for sharing this cool video.

  • getting rid of "the guy with the ears" wouldn't have left many people...:)

  • thanks m8 for sharing this!!!!

  • Thanks for uploading these! :)
