Sifu has an amazing way of raising the bar to bring his students skill to a higher level. Having spent so much time studying with amazing masters throughout the world. Gave Sifu the chance to analyze the methods in which many famous masters from LT system came to be. Realizing how effective those methods are, he uses them as a guide line for his own students. Never one to call himself a master or gloat about his connections in Europe, our Sifu Simon is a true and honorable person.
im learning from one of his students who is an instructor and its frickin awesome... training with my instructor is great but training with sifu simon is amazing... not tryina put my instructor down cuz he is fantastic at what he does, but training with the guy who made him fantastic.... no words can explain how cool that is... sifu simon is like the coolest martial artists that ive meet
All of the Wing Tsun masters in the world respect Leung Tings' ability and the ability of his top students. I guess you have far exceeded Leung Ting in ability, cause you were taught tbe "real" Wing Tsun. Please do not waste peoples time. At least try to back up what you are saying with facts, so that we can research what you claim and see if it is the truth.
lat Sao and Chi Sao are mainly refelx training. If you watch other demo videos by the BMWT demo team, you can see that all of it can be applied without the preliminary "patty cake". And as for WT's usefullness in a real fight, ask a freind of mine, he'll give you some good examples of how well it works.
As you can see what he says can be applied to any video that does not include real violence. So I reposted what he said on his sifu's video doing form and added "I truly apologize for those posts. I however did not write them. "KamaOleVa" left those comments on my Sifu's page. This was a horrible way to prove a point, and once again I apologize and have a great respect for all arts. I would never write such things, because they do not help or offer any type of constructive criticism"
That style isn't practical in a real street fight. In a real street fight, you're not going to fight someone who is going to stand there and play patty cake with you. This is proven in amatuer and professional fight sport. On the street, the best way to deal with someone is to kick the nuts, Thai clinch, knee to the face. Game over.
fight sport is not realistic fighting either and is far from a real street fight. As someone who learns from Sifu Simon, I can tell you, a kick to the nuts and a thumb in the eye or throat is always first in life or death. Too bad this person has never tried one of our classes. If you consider reflex training patty cake then, then tell me, how do you bridge learning a style into fighting application. There has to be training, no buddy just wakes up good at kicking ass.
What you refer to as reflex training would have no useful purpose in a real life fight. If I walk up on you in the street, I'm not going to engage in that silly patty cake dance before I decide to strike. The only thing that would make you more comfortable in a real street fight, is to spar on a regular basis, or find people that would actually want to street fight. All that "reflex training" will not stop a 6ft 340 pound Samoan with real life street fighting experience.
You try to deny Reflex training and yet you say people should spar. What is sparring then? You call Chi Sau Patty Cake, and yet I see all you sports people sparring with gloves, cups, and mouth guards. How is that any better? You have a mouth guard on the street? We have a method to practice withoout artificial protections AND we spar.
I've never met a more talented teacher than Sifu Simon Mayer. He is amazingly good and can transfer his knowledge to his students like no other. The only other person I have met like Simon has been Grand Master Rene Latosa. But since Sifu Simon Mayer is one of his direct students I'm not suprised to see the similarity betweet the two of them. Heinrick Phaff was awesome, but I'm glad Im learning in Bay Mounatin and not Missing Link.
@teamoops True dat! I went to his seminars/ test thru 8 or 9 (hmmm..) ALMOST got Black Shirt! Oh well..anyway, Sifu Simon rocks! I swear, the first time I saw him, I thought he was a special needs student! But he is a very sweet guy with a great sense of humor! And the things he can do and the way he moves, so pure! Gonna miss having a WT studio around...sigh..anbody know of a WT studio in the Portland/ Vancouver area?

What do you do with beginners? Smash them down full contact untill they grow or quit? Every thing new starts soft to learn it. Even in MMA.
""reflex training" will not stop a 6ft 340 pound Samoan with real life street fighting experience." o I see, but sparring somehow will?
