@mikebgood08 Check out the fragmentation upon impact. By cutting 2-3 metres below that last major bifurcation this climber has prevented a possible tear out with himself attached. Frankly if I have the space I take the biggest pieces I can. If you know the trade, the size of the piece dropped is only 1 factor in judging safety. There are many others a video does not show.
