  • The USA it is among the best country. The USA is the Donnald Trump of poor countries, poor countries work and give their resources to the USA so that some of us can come latter as wet backs.

  • The Best country in the world is still in our minds, and probably is made of all our right decisions instead of wrong ones.

  • Protean, you're one of the best...for what I want to see on YouTube. I love those qualifiers.

  • You're the BEST ;o)

  • Best....no such thing to a whole.

To each individual there is though.

Example: Jerry Rice is the Best football player ever. Opinion. It goes on forever. The best for one is not the best for another.

So what's the best country in the world is just a matter of opinion and/or where you live.

  • so much orb activity there.... spooky!! ;)

well i believe in democracy and globalism, and therefor what ever country would be voted for by most people in the world as the best country, must be the best country in the world. makes sense right?

therefor, i suspect China is the best country in the world...

  • I see what your saying.

For colleges they do have lists of best "party" schools, people who just want to get drunk, high, and in a Frat house ECT.

To someone like me this is conveinant as that is the default list of worse schools in the country, but they apparantly are really the "best" schools for some people.

  • "You beat your personal best!" YAY you get a balloon!

  • In my opinion, you've got the best channel on Youtube.

  • I agree with this video.

  • The best country in the world? Well, maybe where you have "the happiest population."

Statistics on this are quite unreliable. However, we know that in countries where crime rates are low and income differences are smaller, generally the population there tends to be happier (physical & social security) ...

  • When people speak of the best, they may not knowingly do so but they speak of the best college/country/etc. for them and they think that you should think the same. I agree that nothing will be the best for everyone across the board (like healthcare for example), however people speak about the best because we want to be known as exceptional, that we drive the "best car" or graduated from the "best university". No one wants to be another face in the crowd, we want to be the best.

  • Good video proteanview. Don't most of these "best" lists include their criterion, though? I think the best country in the world would have to be my county. But I don't own one yet. Do you know of any for sale that would appeal to a budget like mine? Well, I suppose my home is my country. I just have to finish paying for it though.

  • Microfiech (sic) Do you work in a university library? That is the only place one is likely to encounter that old technology; haven't heard that word in a long time.

  • PClaytonHuggins

    I don't work in a library.

That was just my attempt at comedy.

  • Elite Universities are exactly what the name implies: they will serve the elite as best as possible, while positing various objections - within a given framework. And within this framework, you are allowed to think outside the box, as long as it does not threaten the prevailing system of FUNDING, you can say all you want. Thus, the debate about ANYTHING is rather restricted from the outset, although can be changed + challenged from within. A very rare occurance in the course of history...

  • LOLs

    Do people still use "microfiche"!?!?

  • You gotta love a guy who knows how to use the word "whom."

  • Great points. My line of thinking is there's better, not best. It really depends on what your own beliefs, wants and needs are. For example Canada and the United States are both good countries to start a business, but you have a better chance of getting rich in America. Spain and England are good places to raise a family but the UK has better health services. I think "Better for you" is more reasonable then "Best overall"

  • I feel like as if every thought to what value a "country" has. They're just invisible lines that seperate us, and basically are the problem for hate, racism, and discrimination. So no, country is the best, if at all.....They're the worst...

  • agree!'best' or 'superior' are subjective terms, and without a set of criteria cited and how it was measured, we have nothing but blind faith in the data to rely on(and how those who collected it did so)

my dad said to me a long time ago, surveys are only as good as the questions asked (and how they ask them.)

  • i enjoy your videos. question - why are they so short?

  • Heaven is the best all incompassing country...period.

Here on earth would probably be Norway.

  • New York has the best pizza, hands down.

    Link To Favorites. com

  • Best shit.

    Best in military for sure

Everything else will scour the number 20th or above

  • always thought provoking. i agree theres no such notion as best without criteria being placed on it.

  • Definitely Antarctica

  • Comment removed

  • I want a Rolex sub-mariner watch. Rolex make the best watches.

  • The best country in the world? Hmmmm.....the one you're in when you're feeling your best.

    Good video. Great perspective.

  • Very good.

As in all things in life, perceptions are subjective.

  • there is no best country in my oppinion cause every country has their ups and downs.

but i've only lived in two countries (usa and germany) and each have their differences of course. for example germany is a small countries with ALOT of people and because of that they have lots of rules in order to keep the peace between everyone. US on the other hand is a HUGH country with alot of people but only in certain areas.

  • Proto: was that your stomach growling or someone reving their engine outside?

  • Good stuff. Thought provoking.

  • My pet peeve is best practices. In one breath they'll say we use best practices. But then they say ingenuity welcome. Because if it's the "best" how can ingenuity make it better ?

Best country ? Depends. Best music & beef - Brasil. Best labor pool - China. Best for labor and health - Europa. Best for most english speaking people - India. Best for range of climate - USA.

  • sucks that most aren't awake like this guy...free thinkers

  • Tonga.

  • But let us not forget that these "The Best..." articles are design to sell magazines. They may or may not be true.

  • There is no perfect human reality. It depends on what you are looking for. If you are looking for a place with a high quality of living, social harmony and little crime then Canada, Germany, Denmark, Sweden, Australia, New Zealand, Netherlands, Austria, Finland or Norway would be preferable over the US.

  • So countryes are like food it depends on the taste?

  • Agreed. 5 *

  • Like you said; there is no such thing as a best country in the world. It all depends on how you wanna live your life, what makes you happy, what kind of circumstances satisfy you the most. So yea, I just agree with you on that one.

  • I don't care about 'the best', good enough is alright with me.

  • The country that is governed and lead by Truth, Belief and Love.

  • These are very good points you're making. I never really thought of it like that. Of course I don't go around claiming that America is the best. I don't really know who the best would be but the best for me would be Amsterdam. For obvious reasons....lol I think France has a good thing going as well.

  • I would say Canada is the best country, though I'm a little biased considering I live in Canada. I suppose what is considered best is mostly based on individual opinion and depends on where people grew up.

  • Japan is the best. They have a secret hangar full of Gundams.

  • i am the best.

  • yes the notion of best is debatable but what it really comes down to is who are the happiest most satisfied people in the world and what really makes them the happiest.

  • isn't that the point of "best?" We get to debate and pitch what we think is best.

  • very true what you say about "best"...personally I don't prefer any country on this planet.

  • You have the BEST channel on YouTube. :)

  • When I think of best in regards to a nation, I think of how well the country exceeds in several aspects. Economy for one... population second... military might for the third... international influence forth. Based on those few subjects I'd have to say (And I hate to say it) China... they have the largest population, they have a very sound economy, they are just as influential as the United States and they have the largest military on earth. But... I wouldn't want to live there.

  • Germany!

  • When people use the word "best" the context for that category distinction is usually implied in the category itself, as categories imply ideals, or archetypes; here lies the objectivity, in most cases.

For instance, if I say the Chicago Bulls is the best basketball team in the world, what contextualizes that distinction becomes what makes a good sports team, which by the nature of sports is winning. Thus the category itself can provide the objectivity for who is logically be the best.

  • That's a good point. But look what happens when the idea of best becomes political. As in, "America is the country with the best ideological underpinnings." "My God is the best God, and therefore 'x'."

  • Yeah I agree, categorically philosophical and ideological categories become harder to distinguish using the "best" distinction, as the nature of the category requires a value judgment, justified in the belief in the philosophy or ideology

In the case of the context provided by these categories, the subsequent "best" distinction is largely subjective to ones own experience, and motives for believing

However, I think objectively some ideologies and philosophies have more truth value than others.

  • New Zealand is clearly the best at being fairly average.

  • Denmark!

  • The concept of best is defined in the interest of those who have and wish to maintain and expand what they have and to neutralize competing worldview....narrow defininition serves to narrow and concentrate consciousness and resources in the hands of those who already have. The concept of best is simply the subtle knitting of the fine threads of consciousness which will gradually be added to and created the iron cables which will kidnap, entrap and zombify your free will. Conceptual warfare.

  • It is only when we refuse to be either one-up or one-down that we can start relating to others as equals and allow them the same privilege.

  • This is why I subscribed. Love the way you think.

  • man, idk.. perhaps no country!

  • Best Country I know of is Pacific Ocean.

It's a breeze to live under.

America comes in a solid 5th place, right below Iraq at #4.

  • Great video! It's true with everything, your personal preferences determine what you think is "best". If a majority of people share those preferences, then whatever meets them will be considered "the best".

Of course sometimes a new feature will come out, and preferences change. One product that used to be "the best", can suddenly be considered average, or poor. So maybe staying up to date with what people want and need, is best.

  • This is not your best video.

  • 8Whole Ha! That's cold-blooded

  • i hate school people think im kinda wierd cuz i like deep thought ^.^ and i ALWAYS have deeper thoughts then the teachers ...... and it sucks cuz i can't talk about things liek this to people :(

  • OMG i have the same problem!! My teachers give me all these restrictions in what i can do and then tell me to get creative D:

  • listen to your teachers. they will help you.

  • awesome video. favorited.

  • spinnernet1

    Oh, you're easy. ;)

  • Always amazing thoughts from you!

  • This is the best comment ever made.

  • Yes it is, sir mastik8ta!

Have you heard of Alex Jones?

Not the guy on 'A Team', this Alex Jones is on Radio FM

  • Yeah I've heard of him.

  • Do you hear him now?

    LOL

What is he tell us about the future?

Will I get a reindeer for Christmas?

    Where is my dead grammy?

    Will I survive the winters?

  • Nah, I've only seen very little and he seems a bit like a conspiracy nut :/

  • Sure.

But adding flouride into our water without consent seems a conspiracy truth.

As far as his political opinions, I'm independent from being forced to believe what someone else does.

Flouride is bad, regardless of your views of women's rights or abortion or children's rights

  • I think Alex is ascribing malice when ignorance is sufficient.

  • To specify if something is the best, you have to specify conditons aswell. Best car AT, best country AT, best school AT and so on, and it must be mesurable aswell. Like you could mesure growth/capita for a country or schools by who has the highest amount of graduate students with good grades and so on.

  • Pro you are absolutely right. The word best usually follows the money

  • western civilization the BEST ORGANIZED EVIL IN THE WORLD.

  • I'M THE BEST!!!

  • That is very subjective.

  • Yeah i know. Thats the whole point of yhe video. Thought i was being funny.

  • again, that is very subjective;)

  • lol. you cheaked out your name recently. ;-]

  • "The Best" is a bad thing. Best means that that is all there is, nothing more to come, game over.

Don't compete against the best, compete against yourself.

Striving to be better is better than being the best... I think....

    I could've said that better.

    :)

  • There is a profound truth here

  • wrong.

there's a difference between the best and perfect.

the best will always exist, even if you don't want to validate it with it's own word.

You might be thinking the best what, but however complicated figuring it out may be, there is surely something which is, secretly or otherwise, the best

  • Actually there is no best. Best is just a perspective of a moment in time. It's there then it's gone.

Best is just an opinion that everyone agrees to.

    :P

  • best is a word

used to describe something that is better than all other things.

at any one point there must be a best of something as long as an example of that thing is real

  • There're many assumptions that come with the use of "best". I think the argument comes from a lack of distinction between symbolic and literal use of the word. Ex., "You're the best wife ever." No outside observer of this statement made by a husband to his wife is going to understand this as literal. But how do the husband and the wife themselves understand it? In the context of their marriage, that symbolic use of "best" is essential. You seem to want a literal best in a symbolic world.

  • that's not true. i'm a philosopher and a linguist. together, i'm a person who realises that if something can be described, it has to be true in some sense. there is a best wife in the world, there has to be because it's possible. this will never be realised and will never be seriously discussed but because it's possible to be better than all other wives at being a wife (from different perspectives means multiple bests, not none) that means there has to be one, though unknown to all.

  • I agree, but a best of something is just a perspective that is not universally tangible.

by that I mean everyones concept of what is best is not universal to that definition. One person can't be best at everything in that category... there is not an ultimate best. A boxer may be considered best at fights won, but his defense might be weak, or his percentage of shots thrown to those landed may be bad.

    :P

  • i don't think ultimate best exists as a title and a concept. the title is likely fictitious but the conceptual best must exist, even if it's nearly impossible to calculate.

  • You mean you think the (abstract) concept itself has existence? This is my point: "best" is the product of a certain one of many human perspectives on a given category (e.g. wife). But human categories themselves exist only in the symbolic dimension. Further, "Wife" is a non-gradable antonym of "Not-Wife", so it doesn't have degrees of fulfillment in itself. A best wife can only exist in relation to the expectations of an individual husband. Those expectations will of course shape . . .

  • . . ., to an extent, the person who is the wife. So one can't look at someone else's wife and say, "she is a better wife than mine," because had the other wife been his, she would not necessarily have been the same kind of wife to him as she is to her actual husband. Any comparison assumes a prototypical wife in relation to the prototypical expectations of a husband. Also, the husband's expectations are contingent on the wife. So, no, there is no such thing as "best" beyond the symbolic.

  • ... Ya what BombdePlume said.

    My contribution to this topic:

    Two plus two is chicken!

    :P

  • You're the best YouTuber!

OK, one of the best ;‹D

  • Elaina43

How much do I owe you?

  • I think people strive to gain identity through identifying themselves through a collective institution hence 'the best'. It's sort of an easy way of associating themselves with success.

  • American exceptionalism is utter bullshit.

    Over and out!

  • Yep

  • THIS IS THE BEST VIDEO :P

  • Glad to see you, miss your perspective and vids.

  • same reason why perfection doesnt exist, its diffrent for every person

  • My friend who graduated from Harvard is broke however my friend who didn't go to post-secondary is worth millions. Such is life?

  • Best video ever ...oh

  • There is no such thing as the "best' only "the most appropriate for a given situation".

For example, for my budget at the time, the best car available for me back in 2005 was an orange Datsun 180B. Because it was cheap and reliable and small but with some room to put stuff, plus it was a bit distinctive.Yes, it was a shitbox, but it was the most appropriate for me at the time.

  • You should consider applying to Virginia Tech. It's the best :)

  • this is the best

  • You're the best Protean :)

  • Arikiel

Ah, you're too good to me. ;)

  • Italy makes the best cars :)

  • Japanese cars are more durable and have lower maintenence costs. Especially Toyotas. And Korean cars are cheaper to buy and run.Italian cars are more stylish though. Their reputation for maintenence and quality control is horrendous. Especially with regard to rust.Still, I would love one of the new 500s.Then there are the German cars, high quality, but high expense. But then again, sometimes I would love ANY small reliable car.

  • German cars yes they are high quality but their durability is bad. I've bought my last BMW, I see a Honda or Toyota in my future.

  • lol... The USA does not have the best Universities in the world. Simply not the case.

  • best universities is a horrible selection. it's all based on how hard it is to enter. that's the value of their prestige. I think any such list should be destroyed.

  • Well, yea. Their future solely depends on it as big companies that will employ them for the rest of their life is based on their success of going to a prestigious college such as Todai.

  • and here's where it gets interesting.

the best for a diverse culture, but not the best in the world. (you could say there's only japanese culture, but that's what i mean.. that in itself is an enormous amount of culture) and other things like coolest architecture which is definitely just an opinion (but not as much as best music is). But in development, i think 9th is more accurate position for it. (that's where it is on the hdi)

  • finland is the best. It doesn't just make internet access a legal right, it aims to make fast internet access a legal right. which wins

  • If they let me have Ryoko Hirosue, I'll proclaim Japan to be the best. lol.

I don't really believe in a best country anyways. It's more dependent of lifestyle choices and economic situations.

  • tsk tsk... how will you fare if you dont' assimilate more easily... you might not succeed. I respect you view I will even go as far to agree that you might be correct. However, might I dare suggest that you would still prefer to attend one of the better universities and enjoy the resulting lifestyle? We all should have something to aspire to ;). Kind and ironical regards,

  • best video ever

  • Protean, it comes a time when you have to leave the "majority" of the population behind. Certain arguments dont need to be made bro. At least not by you. This vid is to.....simple for what you usually do.

Remember: A wise man arguing with a fool is twice the fool.

  • capitalmindz

Thanks... I think. Variety is a good 'business move' for my channel. I also don't want to set myself up such that every video must be epic or deep. Sometimes, I just want to have fun.

  • my university has the best whores.

  • Anna

I'm sure you're doing your part, eh? ;-)

  • lol, I guess you can say that. I do get paid off those whores. Need some?

  • What your saying is kind of like "favorites", right?

I can't have a favorite movie this year, because my favorite was made in '94. It wasn't THE BEST, but it's my favorite.

The Academy Awards hand out a "Best Picture" award, yearly. How can a different film be THE BEST every year? When one is named best, that's it... it's "THE BEST"!

If they insist on a new film winning yearly, they should change it to "Favorite Picture".

A favorite is an opinion, the best is proclaiming a fact.

  • best country in the world? pff, how the hell would ANY of us know. i'd sayy St. Kitts, and I'm from Norway.. hehe, peace

  • dasdafoij

Has Norway taken in any Icelandic refugees lately? ;)

  • i am the best , blanket, all-encompassing, regardless of any individual preference. there ya go.

    the best what?

who knows, doesnt matter, im the best.

  • agreed, I hope this gets featured

  • Great video. You can identify the "best" country in the world by calculating the positive and negative categorical social criteria that we keep up with. Such as: Crime, Education, Commerce, Weather, Liberties, etc.

There will be one country that will rank higher than the rest when you average all the categories. Like you said, it's a matter of opinion, but you could determine the best mathematically on a broad scale like this.

  • Hollywood invented the idiotic phrase, "One of the best." People don't get it and suck it up.

  • I'm weird but "the best" is relative... i might think living in California is "the best" but others would say it's one of the most expensive places.... or I might say the U.S. is "the best" but for many reasons, others would disagree

  • somalia is the best country in the world

  • "God is an American "' '-'

  • LOL at your question for the comments.

Which context are you asking for? Overall opinion or specific attributes?

  • its THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST

  • right on, very good points

  • Best, like so many words, has relative meaning depending on a person's perspective.

What's best for me might not be best for you.

Having said that, some standard of what is best needs to be established in order to make any sense of the words we use in this world.

Best country? I would say it boils down to life expectancy, level of crime, education, and economics being the most fundamental questions needed to answer that question.

Possibly Japan, Switzerland, Italy, and Germany,

  • Japan doesn't even come close. Organized crime is huge. Even cops can't do anything because the yakuza is so tied to politicians and businesses. The education system is screwed up. Many don't even go to high school. Economy is jacked too. Their debt level is 300% of their GDP and long recessions with many unemployed and homeless. Japan really isn't that great.

  • @ a012345

Japan is one of the most productive countries in the world, inspite of the devastation it suffered post-WW2.

There is crime in virtually all countries that have a developed, and usually more in undeveloped countries.

So if you don't consider Japan one of the best, what would you say is the best then?

  • Sorry but you obviously know nothing about Japan. Go research how yakuza run in Japan before you claim no crime. Prostitution is illegal but it's rampant and ran by the Yakuza as well. It's a low crime rate because people and police avoid the yakuza and allow them to operate. You should visit Japan and visit the park across from the twin government towers, homeless city with people living in tents. In terms of productivity, maybe you should talk to almost half the labor force which are temps.

  • @ a012345

You certainly like to nag don't you?

"Go research how yakuza run in Japan before you claim no crime"

I never said there was no crime, sort of a ridiculous statement to make.

Japan is one of the most productive countries, that's a fact. No country is without it's problems, including organized crime.

By the way, you totally side stepped my question, what country or countries do you consider best?

  • No, I don't like to nag. I just don't like people who doesn't know about it trying to paint an incorrect picture.

You don't understand how crime in Japan in different. It's socially acceptable. They have festivals and parades in the streets celebrating their clan emblems. They control tons of businesses and parts of government. Like I said, you know nothing.

Productive based on what? Their domestic economy is horrible. Most people live in poverty and work multiple jobs.

  • I live in Japan, and poverty is still pretty low--where do you get your ideas??

I would never say Japan's universities are actually very good. But some things are quite good here.

I agree with this guy generally--but Denmark and other Scandinavian countries seem to be on the right track, despite Iceland's recent financial woes. They'll recover; America won't.

  • Most people have to live at home with their parents since they can't afford rent. For a lot of workers who can't get tenure, they make about 1/6 of someone who's "fulltime". Funny thing is part time in japan is still about about the same as a regular work day for most of us. Many people who lost their businesses and jobs from the 90s bust, are homeless or unemployed. I am sure since you lived in Japan, you know about the occasional homeless people protesting through the streets.

  • IDK about your last status. I read a lot in New York Times and Wall Street Journal that a lot of Scandinavian and European countries are even more leveraged in housing loans than US is. Who really knows? Seems like a lot of data is being fudged.

US probably won't stay world power but they won't be a 3rd world country either, maybe. Depends on how bad congress screws us over in the next 10 years.

  • You can read Japan Times if you want to read up more on poverty in Japan. Apparently more than half of Japan's population makes less then median income. The wage gap also widening due to companies reluctant to hire full time workers due to benefits, pensions and much higher wages.

  • a012345 - Perhaps you should inform Efilorpnagev that the US, Russia, France, China and Britain are more militarily powerful than Japan and finance less than any of them.

They also have one of the largest suicide rates which is funny because they still have hanging as an execution.

Their import rates have been increasing. Funnily enough, over 20% of their imports are cars, aren't they supposed to be top dog in manufacturing?

I can give you the links if you want so you can shut this guy up.

  • I thought it was interesting that they have the lowest birthrate of any industrialized nation as well.

I wouldn't be surprised about their suicide rate. Working there is depressing. You work for one company for your whole life and try to obtain unreasonable sales goals. They make your job an identity. If you get laid off in later years, you have a insanely hard time regaining employment as not one wants to hire old men in Japan.

No need for the links. He can easily google this information.

  • a012345 - With a minimum sex age of 13 it's strange they'd have one of the lowest birthrates.

  • It's because of pressure in the education system actually.

but about crime, have you ever been to japan?

It's organised crime is pretty hard to stop, but where has that been a bad thing for most people? yakuza are usually just violent business owners and tough loan sharks.

If you walk around late at night, you feel safe, bikes are left outside at night, usually unchained. if you leave something on the train it gets returned. horrible, just horrible.

  • Yes, I lived in Japan before.

I am sure you been to pachinko parlors. They're all mostly owned by the Yakuza to bypass illegal gambling. I am pretty damn sure you're against pedophilia porn which they also produce and control.

I told you that I agreed with you on petty crime.

Women are like second class citizens there. They get passed for promotions. They make less, way less.

Japan is a suppressing nation. You speak out, you get ostracized. They hate on gaijins and especially Koreans.

  • same with "Terrorism" it's organized crime....you kind of wonder why the US doesn't "BOMB" japan again when "Terrorists" run the country.

  • terrorists?

business owners who bully other business owners and run gambling circles. There's a difference between mobs and terrorists...

    Just so you know.

and btw, why was "bomb" in quotation marks?

  • organized is organized.....we'll have to agree to disagree.,....The Term terrorist isn't for Arabs anymore........Yakuza and Taliban both had run parts of government at one time or another and the businesses they ran in their respective countries........POLITICAL TERRORISTs.

  • lol

apparently we'll have to because they don't terrorise enough. if you think yazuza count as terrorists, you don't know what a terrorist is. simple enough

you didn't answer my second question. why was "bomb" in quotation marks?

  • You seem to know what terrorist is, so tell us.

  • read my response to gmcmudder after i write it

  • Clarification:

So would you agree, that an agent or army of a political or religious group that enters another country (uninvited) and discharges its weapons(large & small) at civilians, commandeers their resources, overthrows its government and imprisons its citizens. Would this fit under the definition of terrorism/terrorist act?

Or should we continue to title it "Operation Iraqi Freedom" and also title those people of that country who oppose these aggressive actions as "insurgents"

  • yes, all that would. yakuza didn't enter another country. muggers, mafia, murderers, hit men, etc. all discharge small weapons. yakuza commandeer the county's resources as much as any standard business. yakuza show no signs of wanting to overthrow their government and imprisons no more people than kidnappers. It's crime, not terrorism.

  • Terrorism means to cause mass fear. Therefore it's terrorism. The terrorism the world has became known of is false, it's a lie. What is taken away daily through terrorism? Freedom, human rights. All passed because of terrorism.

  • they're not trying to cause mass fear. they don't. trust me, they only people who have to be afraid of yakuza are competitors. police or rivals

  • I'm the best.

  • Sepia is the best.
