I am a diehard Wings fan, but even after the 6th goal and watching Patrick Roy break down and shake his head, I felt bad for the guy...then I remember all the times he beat us and that feeling goes away.
@eldorado61guy ....it's not "the original six", it is two of the original 6 nhl teams..from 1942 to 1967, there were only 6 teams...the 2 aforementioned Red Wings and Canadiens, the Rangers, Blackhawks, Maple Leafs, and the Bruins. i would imagine that the "Original Six" series posted hear by NHLvideo is comprised of games between these six teams...make any sense now?
Never been a Hab's fan but that is no way to treat a goaltender who was a staple for the team for so long why Tremblay never took him out instead of having him embarrassed like he was un-excusable and he should have been hung up by the short hairs and slapped around a little.
@KGfan7 What overshadows that accomplishment is the fact they never won the Stanley Cup that year. That's a shame because Dino Ciccarelli retired without one; that being his final season and all.
@landrykkb Agreed, but impressive season nonetheless. In my mind this red wings season is more impressive than a stanley cup. I'm not biased either, I'm a Bruins fan from the Boston area.
@KGfan7 Don't get me wrong,it was impressive that Detroit broke Montreal's previous record for most wins in a season, but they also fell one point short of breaking the most points record set by those same Habs on top of not winning the Stanley Cup that season.
my dad got to play against darren mccarty. they were facing off and my dad said "damn i shouldnt have had those two beers before the game" and mccarty said "TWO?! im still breaking in my fourth!" i got a video of the game on my page.
I think the Canadiens' head coach kept Roy out there on purpose and wanted to embarrass him! That's why Roy didn't want to play in Montreal after that.
@KWCline91 its been noted that he did, the two of them already had some run-ins before this night, this one was just the clincher for that asshole tremblay to embarass roy
@roflmewaffles: Yeah, fluke. He's a hall of famer for a reason. If he was over-rated, he wouldn't be in the hall of fame, have the most playoff wins by a goalie, have the most Conn Smyth trophies, have the most playoff shutouts, be in 11 All-Star games, be listed to the first All-Star team 4 times, ranked 22nd overall on "The Hockey News' list of the 100 Greatest Hockey Players", and be ranked the 5th best all-time player according to "The Hockey News' list of the 100 Greatest Hockey Players".
Nice shield to hide behind, stats and the opinions of sheep.
Does this really mean 7 goals is automatically a fluke? Automatically? Howcome you couldn't address the fact that THIS WASN'T THE LAST TIME THE WINGS DID IT TO HIM. Dodge that fact again why don'tcha. Homer boy.
Roy ended his career by being embarrassed by Detroit and Minnesota. His defense collapsed in both series'. In typical Roy fashion, he was trash without a lock down defense. Go on, argue and lose. I dare ya.
@roflmewaffles: You say I'M hiding the facts? Buddy, numbers are fact, and you need to get that straight. Every legend has a breakdown or two at some point in his/her career, so you need to simmer your jets over there and stop getting so worked up over a damn YouTube comment...
@alexiofilms Numbers are facts but what facts exactly? Those are more or less team accomplishments. Let's just keep it basic and look at your statement that started this useless losing battle on your behalf-7 goals on a goalie who owns trophies is a fluke.
Why exactly? You didn't even explain why, and you're talking about facts? Any goalie can get lit up. Those goals were scored because Patrick couldn't stop them. No flukes, just saves he couldn't make.
@alexiofilms Besides, those are mostly team accomplishments. Cups are a team thing, the Smythe can't go to a group of defensemen so it's easier to give it to a goalie with a big rep. Roy is just like Brodeur-never once played behind a bad team. When his team broke down, he broke down. He wasn't able to carry his team like say, Hasek or Cujo, who are both better but weren't blessed with all star teams. Roy and Brodeur have never once carried a team, ever.
Crazy game. Can you imagine as good as the red wings record that year was, they didn't even start going on that roll(a roll that never stopped mind you in a sense that regular season)till larionov came on board a month and half into the season or whatever it was. What if he played with them the whole year?
Also stat wise its crazy how "low" the russian 5s stats were. Watching them night in and night out, amazing they weren't higher.

The Game that cost the Red Wings the 1996 Stanley Cup!
In 2001, when Colorado won their second Stanley Cup with Patrick Roy, the Red Wings were laid out by Los Angeles in the First Round of the Playoffs.

Not Roy's fault. Period. Those were all 'clean' unstoppable goals. Long live the Wings !

@alexiofilms Fluke? Is that why they lit him up for 7 goals on a completely different team and occasion? Moron. Roy = overrated.
