  • God damn I wanna build a motor!! So much I gotta learn though, hell I've never even pulled a motor myself before lol only seen it happen a handful of times

  • WTH is plastigauge?

  • @PhizzleK96 It's like a plasticine substance that comes in strings. You can get different thicknesses to measure different clearances, for example the Red plastigauge goes from 0.001" to 0.007". Any bigger clearances need a different plastigauge. You can use it to make sure all the clearances between the bearing caps and crank journals are to spec (like he did in the video). If they're not, you can compensate by buying different thicknesses of shell bearings.

  • nice job, very well done. :-)

  • your missing 2 vids now do it on the head of the engine plz......make a vid on building the head

  • im learning how to do all this in gasoline engines class it is so cool to see a real life application of it (for money) :) we tore down and put together a 2.4 intrepid engine. mine started with no problems but my instructor thought it was funny to put a little water in the throttle body...lol glad i knew what white smoke meant.( there was no coolant running thru the engine)

  • THANKS BRO THIS HELP'D ME ALOT

  • wont the lube on the inside of the thrust shims give you a false end play measurement?

  • @EvansTuningDotCom

When you describe the ring gap clearance you come up with "23 hundredths" which should probably be "23 thousandths".

  • @AHStrip

.023, .0023, or .23? everything is in thousanths. .2 is two hunddred thou, .0005 is half thou.

  • @EvansTuningDotCom good job man

  • @EvansTuningDotCom plastigage is just to check things...and you can see that he is just using it just to check...not as a primary..this guy is good..fuck all the assholes who think otherwise.!

  • hey bro what the ret way to break in a steert motor like what oil and many mils

  • I'm curious why he puts oil on the bolts for the mains and the girdle. I can understand using antiseize, or even using a little bit of lubricant, but I'm curious about the oil. Wouldn't that risk cracking the block from hydraulic pressure when they're torqued down? I'm not criticizing, just curious, so any INTELLIGENT answers/ideas from anyone would be appreciated. Any Know-it-all A%%hole punk comments will be ignored.

  • @nightmathzombieethan no the threads wont be able to keep in that kind of pressure, and you would need to torque the bolts down to 5,000ft/lb to generate that kind of oil pressure to crack the block. before you could even put that kind of pressure down the threads would strip anyways. its perfectly safe, maybe unnecessary but is a good substitute for antiseize.

  • what is this plastic gauge or journal and why is it plastic? doesnt it melt?

  • Can you explain me why you put these side near the bronzine at minute 0:50???

  • Very nice thourough build !

  • Wow wonder if this guy still visits his youtube channel. I wanna use his vids when I build my GSR turbo as reference. He did an excellent job covering the bottom-end assembly, wonder if he has any for head assembly.

  • @EvansTuningDotCom u tell him your video rock

  • Evan, I liked the video it is good for begginers which is what these people commenting are, you make yourself look VERY imature when answer these dumb kids taunting messages, My advice to you is to IGNORE all bad comments. Only respond to good comments or questions otherwise you look just as bad as these kids.

  • @EvansTuningDotCom dont even reply to them my good son, what your doing is some good oldfashion hard work. no one else has half the time or inteligence to be able to do this, great guide , with some fine tuning and paperwork you coud sell these videos !

  • Just out of curiosity, have you ever considered not putting oil on the piston and ring when assembling. I built one of my motocross 4 stroke engines that way. Turned it over a few times dry before starting (Obvisouly all other bearings were not dry! just the bore). Appears to get quite a good ring seal.

  • That was not just a high performance engine build.

    that was art.

you are true a master in this man, I´ve learned a lot in your videos, Thanks so much !!

  • out of curiosity, why do the aftermarket pistons eliminate the need for the oil squirts?

  • @EvansTuningDotCom

    my hero

    good vid man.

  • hey man u shud help me out by making a ls/v build just so i can ger an idea of the build gud shit man

  • Don't trip on what others say, you do good work, I see evans tuning everywhere, especially on various honda forums. People just want attention and be known as the know it all. The real engine builders would see you make your mistake and hope it brings them more customers. Thanks for the videos!

  • do you have to check for bearing clearance.

  • you know ur stuff bro.

  • nice video champ

  • you should bild the ls vetec so i can get a idea of it. so if you areb really the person who bilds the gsrband the b16 than if you have time i would like to requst clips of the bilding of the ls vtec. thanks.

  • Which assembly lube do you suggest?

  • i have a B181c engine. I think my oil jets are clogged from a heavy lube from the last owner. How do i get them ubnclogged.

  • nice...thanks to this video i really need it alot....cause i was having a hard time putting my block and stuff together

  • after watching you build this motor, i realize that i would probably never do it and that i would rather pay someone like you to do it for me

  • Great videos Jeff, cant wait to meet you in less then a month when I come down with Ken Vallis for tuning.

  • that would suck if at 4:00 there wasn't enough clearance on the plastiguage

you'd have to redo all of that

    nice vid man

  • No wonder hondas last forever...

  • @SilverXTune its so tiny thats why you can drive the bastard to the ground and rebuild it in one day lol

  • it was on the video when he torqes down the rod bolts. Thats why i asked acouple local shops if they ever heard of it or heard of using it

  • some manufacture use rod bolt stretch gauge....some use angle wrench...both are the same objective but using different tool

  • i went to a whole bunch of mechanic shops and talk to a honda technician none of them ever heard of a rod bolt stretch guage in their life haha how come not many people use it?

  • what the hell? never head of rod bolt stretch gauge?

i don't think they've been around the block?

  • ARP website will answer your Question. It is a recommended way for there fasteners.

  • I don't think the measurements were overkill. It emphasizes the importance it has in a quality engine build.

  • even though the measurements were a little overkill - GREAT tutorial nonetheless!!

  • All depends, I would rather be overkill than trash a $8000 motor or have a constant worry in the back of my mind when reving to 10000+ rpm.

  • can anyone tell me wat kidn of ring compressor he used shit looks way easier than the one i use

  • ARP ring compressor

  • 11,000th view :P

  • I´ve been watching all ur vids now and I only have one word for it : AWESOME!! I wanna learn it all!!

  • good info, but come on man don't your mics in a vice, i don't think i would hear the end of it if i ever did that at work

  • HAHAHA the funny thing is, you must be gay if you watched it! LOL laugh now cock sucker!

  • hahah.. v8 haters,...

  • haha yea.

  • your momma is a slut!

  • @v10viper04 watch?v=JnAJE6-BuyQ <video of this cocky ass hole in a peice of shit camaro getting beat by a 4 cylinder. This is what happens when your head is so big you that your ego stops you from learning from more intelligent people.

  • @again little inbred hillbilly where is your car? Post up videos! O that''s right you don't own a car fagget... hahaha

  • good stuff

  • This video is about the only thing i can find on youtube that goes in such detail on how to rebuild a engine. Thanks so much for posting this, it is making it soo much easier to rebuild my D-series engine. Thanks Once Again! Where did you get your Dial Bore Gauge?

  • isnt that bolt stretch gauge a dial indicator? or is something diffrent?

  • @ 1:47 It's a small thing I know but I wouldnt install a bearing in that way. I would slide it on from an angle.

  • i got a b17 gsr and it didnt come with a girdle on the bottom of the block do i need to get one

  • so having the squirters are not really crucial, and by the way is there just one set of thrust berings

  • It really depends who you talk to. Jeff doesnt seem to need them, but remember this engine he is building will be putting down 700-800+ whp! So I wouldnt consider this a "street" build. Im building a "mild street" build.(500+whp) Im retaining the oil squirters just because it will be extra cooling. Im running ceramic coated cp pistons so technically I dont need them but its good to have IMO. And yes their is only 1 set of thrust bearings, in between 3 and 4 cylinder main.

  • thanks man! the motor i got was i pieces and i didnt know what was suppose to be their and what wasnt...this is the first time that ive been inside of a b series, im more of a d series man myself even though their isnt much difference between them

  • bravo! this actually helped me alot on my d-series build im doing. thank you very much.

  • get em jeff!, get him. ha ha! marek0086 your talking to one of the best honda tuners in the U.S. Thats like telling micheal phelps his swimming stroke is wrong. jeff's series of videos will inspire thousands of enthusiasts to build any engine themselves not just HONDA. so go ahead and put this vid on your favorites list. Ha Ha!

  • nice video~

  • @marek0086 I see you have built a HELL of a lot engines in your life, Marek!

  • hey those oil squirters are mainly for cooling the piston!.....which is what u want!

  • @marek0086 your an idiot, aftermarket pistons and rods are not cast and do not need to be cooled, not to mention plugging the squirters increases oil pressure.... go end yourself
