@rahungry They are different games? I suppose you want to know how they differ mechanically. Well, King's Bounty has more of a hero building aspect to it than I think HOMM does. Also the there are no castles or other resources to control in KB, instead you are managing which creatures you hire, which enemies you fight first, and in HOMM it is more about controlling certain things on the map.

@wtfiyn Are you using WINDOWS 7? If you are, maybe that's the problem, WIN 7 has some resolution problems with some monitors... nothing unusual, I must say...
@wtfiyn It's only anamorphic for 16:9. Its widescreen support stops at 16:10, hence the black bars. If you notice, it redoes the UI at the bottom to support 16:10 (and 4:3) up from 5:4. They just didn't properly do it for 16:9 as well so they just added black bars.
@Khargash85 It has nothing to do with Windows7. Graphics display drivers have built in scaling options that are independent of OS. Look them up in nvidia control panel or catalyst control center.

I just finished King's Bounty: Legend (remake of original 1990) and I must say - it's great and very addicting. It's not a strategy game, it's RPG game. That's the main difference between KB and HoM&M. However HoM&M IV is the nearest KB's neighbour, because of its deep story - much deeper than sacred 3rd part. :P I know, I know, haters know better.

I really enjoyed this game, except for the main quest, which is to save the king's daughter (no essence what so ever) it has a really nice game play, forget about the story, it's got loads of side quests, which explain everything in the world. Over all, a very good game in my opinion.

@vanja0411 it's because these kids refuse to admit that wow ripps off D&D's game system, doing a cartoony version of wizardry's art style, plus stels the hud and online idea from everquest (who stole it from ultima online)
just the talent tree. but even then, you buy talents much differently since they have varying costs instead of one talent point each.
Oh yeah, and it's relaly grindy, as a lot of the fights in the game you can't even see your experience bar go up, it takes so long to level. So it's like WOW there too.
Kinda fun though, especially for someone who liked heroes 2 as much as i did. Though it's not half the game that that was, given the slow pacing, walls of text, and simple gameplay.
it really does look good very HoMM style gameplay but it looks like it involves more into the terrain as the big feature on most battlefields so i would say 'it might be better than HoMM' and i am sorry if i offend any HoMM fanatics but this game might actually beat the HoMM series in some aspects, and lets hope for we can all play the evil campaign *devilish smile*
This is a superb game, and HoMM was actually based off the original 1989 version of Kings Bounty which is still damn good, this is the remake and it lives up to it's namesake, it's a superb and beautiful product and well worth anyones money.
Superb game! More of a RPG than strategy, since you control only one hero (making it clean and personal - no sacrificices or scouts, just you!), only strategy is in combat (and choosing enemy, of course)... but the game is even more addictive than Heroes, with more fluid gameplay (do you remember how boring and long it was to make one simple turn with 6 heroes and 8 castles? No more of that). For me a game of the year!
Ya the game is cool i must admit, but this game has one of the worst AI i have ever seen. You can be up against a extremely week army and get wiped almost 50% of the time. I just seen my AI auto combat cast the rage wall then haste on my main archers then the archers walked around the barrier and punched them and died from counter attack. when they can just range and kill 70% of them unharmed. Thats just an example. This game is good when you play. the AI enemy on hard is pretty stupid also.
True, but that is not bothering me - in fact, with exploiting the game AI you can advance much faster. And since this is single player, it fine by me :-)
Only bad thing is rather quick ending.. once you get to Murock, it gets over rather fast..

Love this game! I like the fact that you can customize the troops you command more than in HOMM. The single player is done perfectly, it keeps you guessing at every turn and options options options! Every new area you reached, you have a choice to stick to your original troops or switch to the local available troops. SPOILERS like when I reached the freedom island I switch to sea dogs and pirates arg!

I am playing a mage. Best class in by far. Although I have no played any other class but I don't see any other class beating a high level mage. Might be hard at first as a mage, but once you have level 3 destoryer, level 1 higher casting, level 3 chaos magic. You are UNSTOPPABLE.

Yep, that's pretty much it. King's Bounty is focused around the Hero, and the battles that Hero fights. No city management or such, just Hero progression.
Unlike Heroes of Might and Magic, you are only in control of the heroes. It differs from RPG as you use mostly your armies to fight and it differs from strategy as you don't need to build anything, just gold is your needed resource.
ive played it for like 7 hours. and at first it was gr8 fun, very similar to HoMM. but, the lvling was extremely slowly, and same goes for the army ur trying to grow bigger, takes forever to get a just a few more to ur army, it gets boring especially when u see enemies so much better than u everywhere, having to fight for ur life in almost every battles. so after playing this for aproximately 7hours, im uninstalling it.playing some HoMM instead.sorry for any spelling misstakes.

Boring to you maybe, but if you were around when the original King's Bounty was out on the C64, I'd doubt you'd ever say this one is boring. In comparision, the original King's Bounty was indeed 10x more boring, although the depth of the game was worth it.
Yeah but what you're forgetting is KB: The Legend holds VERY true to the original, so you insult this you also are taking little stabs at King's Bounty in general, as a lot, and I DO mean a lot of effort went into keeping this quite true to the original, and worthy of being labeled a good "remake".

yes you can gather gear for your hero. tunics, belts, helmets, artifacts etc. But it wont display your character any different.
some equipment you find/buy is alive btw. its a very nicely done feature. You can upgrade items by actually fighting against the item.

I really enjoyed this game, except for the main quest, which is to save the king's daughter (no essence what so ever) it has a really nice game play, forget about the story, it's got loads of side quests, which explain everything in the world. Over all, a very good game in my opinion.

The first part of this game was out before HoMM, so HoMM copied alsmost everything from it, but became more succesfull. Now the original is back !

OMFG,,,,,,im sick of hearing every single game being compared to wow....yo noob....have you ever played some realy good games like Heroes of Might and Magic? what does this turn-based singleplayer game has in common with MMORPGS like wow. @vanja0411 it's because these kids refuse to admit that wow ripps off D&D's game system, doing a cartoony version of wizardry's art style, plus stels the hud and online idea from everquest (who stole it from ultima online)

just the talent tree. but even then, you buy talents much differently since they have varying costs instead of one talent point each.
Oh yeah, and it's relaly grindy, as a lot of the fights in the game you can't even see your experience bar go up, it takes so long to level. So it's like WOW there too.
Kinda fun though, especially for someone who liked heroes 2 as much as i did. Though it's not half the game that that was, given the slow pacing, walls of text, and simple gameplay.

it really does look good very HoMM style gameplay but it looks like it involves more into the terrain as the big feature on most battlefields so i would say 'it might be better than HoMM' and i am sorry if i offend any HoMM fanatics but this game might actually beat the HoMM series in some aspects, and lets hope for we can all play the evil campaign *devilish smile*

This is a superb game, and HoMM was actually based off the original 1989 version of Kings Bounty which is still damn good, this is the remake and it lives up to it's namesake, it's a superb and beautiful product and well worth anyones money.

Superb game! More of a RPG than strategy, since you control only one hero (making it clean and personal - no sacrificices or scouts, just you!), only strategy is in combat (and choosing enemy, of course)... but the game is even more addictive than Heroes, with more fluid gameplay (do you remember how boring and long it was to make one simple turn with 6 heroes and 8 castles? No more of that). For me a game of the year!

Ya the game is cool i must admit, but this game has one of the worst AI i have ever seen. You can be up against a extremely week army and get wiped almost 50% of the time. I just seen my AI auto combat cast the rage wall then haste on my main archers then the archers walked around the barrier and punched them and died from counter attack. when they can just range and kill 70% of them unharmed. Thats just an example. This game is good when you play. the AI enemy on hard is pretty stupid also.

True, but that is not bothering me - in fact, with exploiting the game AI you can advance much faster. And since this is single player, it fine by me :-)
Only bad thing is rather quick ending.. once you get to Murock, it gets over rather fast..

This game is awesome! One of my friends recommended it and I've been up till 2am every night.
So far, it's my pick for RPG of the Year!
I've never played a game that rewards me so much for doing just about anything. Take 10 steps, here's some gold, look behind a tree, here's a magic rune... search a castle and add Elf Werewolves to your army...
The battles are strategic and you're constantly getting new troops and facing new enemies!

Love this game! I like the fact that you can customize the troops you command more than in HOMM. The single player is done perfectly, it keeps you guessing at every turn and options options options! Every new area you reached, you have a choice to stick to your original troops or switch to the local available troops. SPOILERS like when I reached the freedom island I switch to sea dogs and pirates arg!

Best single player for a long long time.
Heroes of might and magic's glory is going downhill ever since 3DO sold it's right.
This is epic as hell.
I am playing a mage. Best class in by far. Although I have no played any other class but I don't see any other class beating a high level mage. Might be hard at first as a mage, but once you have level 3 destoryer, level 1 higher casting, level 3 chaos magic. You are UNSTOPPABLE.

King's Bounty is a nice game.
But HOMM is to play with friends.
This is pure single player.
It can't be played by 2 players or more. It would be weird. Tho I really like it.

No multiplayer.
HOMM is the offspring of King's Bounty. The major differences are that HOMM is resource heavy, castle, city, upgrades, management, etc.
King's Bounty, however, was hero heavy/focused.

Yeah, I've played the demo for this and have always loved the Heroes franchise. Isn't HOMM more like a strategy game with RPG elements and King's Bounty like an RPG with some strategy elements?

Yep, that's pretty much it. King's Bounty is focused around the Hero, and the battles that Hero fights. No city management or such, just Hero progression.

Unlike Heroes of Might and Magic, you are only in control of the heroes. It differs from RPG as you use mostly your armies to fight and it differs from strategy as you don't need to build anything, just gold is your needed resource.

ive played it for like 7 hours. and at first it was gr8 fun, very similar to HoMM. but, the lvling was extremely slowly, and same goes for the army ur trying to grow bigger, takes forever to get a just a few more to ur army, it gets boring especially when u see enemies so much better than u everywhere, having to fight for ur life in almost every battles. so after playing this for aproximately 7hours, im uninstalling it.playing some HoMM instead.sorry for any spelling misstakes.

not really fanboy. but i dont wanna waste half a day of playtime just to get 5 more men to my army. that's not what im after in a game, but sure if u wanna play and play and get minimum changes and thinks that is fun, gg u got to much spare time and ur a real nerd.
like i said in my other comment, it gets *BORING*. why would i waste time on a game that u play and play but the result barely changes. pff..

Boring to you maybe, but if you were around when the original King's Bounty was out on the C64, I'd doubt you'd ever say this one is boring. In comparision, the original King's Bounty was indeed 10x more boring, although the depth of the game was worth it.

Yeah but what you're forgetting is KB: The Legend holds VERY true to the original, so you insult this you also are taking little stabs at King's Bounty in general, as a lot, and I DO mean a lot of effort went into keeping this quite true to the original, and worthy of being labeled a good "remake".
I agree with you on spore though, what a piece of shit that is.
