  • nice job on the tute Natalie! You have inspired me to do something with the Disney tshirts that add up from vacations. Thanks!!

  • Very clear instruction. I'm totally hooked on watching your videos. It's keeping me from getting any sewing done!!!! I'm deciding "what the hey! May as well watch them all and get it done!"

  • I agree with kathrynmham. Could you show how to make the quilt sandwich with this type of quilt and how to quilt it since it might be different than a regular quilt.

  • Fantastic...very clear and helpful.

  • Fantastic video...i love Missour Star Quilting. !!

  • I'm interested in making a quilt like the one that you made for your son, but I have not quilted before. Do you have a video that would show how to do something similar to that.

  • This was by far the best, and easiest to follow instructions! I made one as a Christmas gift and it turned out AMAZING!

  • @AELinAZ Thanks for letting us know!! Awesome on your finished quilt and in TIME for Christmas!! Happy sewing. Keep up the good work! :)

  • Great video. Would love to see the batting and backing put on it, though. I'm a real beginner and need even more detail. :) Thanks for posting and your son's quilt is AWESOME, Natalie!

  • I started a tshirt quilt with all my old high school shirts. I wish I had seen this first. I have finished the top and have it all together, but did not put the interfacing on. Is it too late to add it now? Just a big giant piece?

  • Awesome job explaining how to make a t-shirt quilt. This is the best quilting site!

  • @shirlshine1 Thank you. Good luck on making your T-shirt quilt! Let us know how it goes!

  • I'm in the middle of one of these quilts. Great video, Natalie!

  • @thebeatonpath Thank you! T-shirts quilts are wonderful to make. A favorite to receive, for sure!

  • @SarahMSQC Another question: I've decided I have too many for the size I wanted to do, so I'm doing a double sided one (yes, a Christmas present! haha). Have you ever done one of those? I figured it will all work out. Let's hope so!

  • @thebeatonpath Just be sure to have them all stabilized really well. (and be sure not to put the thicker printed ones on the back, they tend to pull while quilting.) You can call us at the shop if you have more questions! Ask for Natalie, she is the best! 888 571 1122 Good luck! I am sure that it will be perfect!

  • I mean the fabric for the 2.5" border around each 12" square.I have 18 squares. I'm just going to use one neutral fabric for the rest of the quilt.Thank you so much for the fast response.

  • What is the yardage for the border material? I have everything I need to make a memorial quilot of my husbands favorite tees, all I need is the border.

  • @gknkbowden That all depends on the size of your finished top and the size you want your borders. Call the shop and we can help you figure out how much fabric you need. 888 571 1122

  • i love yor work have learnt alot,i needed somethings such as the cloth cutter and scale etc...but i live in pakistan hoa can i buy these is there any way.plzzz guide

  • Nattalie & all readers - Need help!! I have logo's measuring 16X12 3/4 down to 9 1/2X14 1/2, & many inbetween sizes. I just don't know how to figure the cutting size for the majority of the larger blocks so blocks will look uniform since most of the blocks are different sizes. i.e. not just all 14 1/2 inch finished blocks. I want to be able to use the same 2 1/2 border for all. I hope this makes sense. Any suggestions?

  • Thank you so much. This is just what I was looking for :)

  • I'm new to this, and want to make a t-shirt quilt or 2...what's the point of the interfacing? I've not heard of it. Thanks. :)

  • @adnkbc The interfacing actually helps stabilize the quilt. Knit is so stretchy it can become very hard to keep straight lines and puckers from happening.

  • I love ur tutorials so much that I made a political & sports t-shirt quilt out of a dozen t-shirts I had intented to give to the goodwill. I cut them 12 1/2 " sq. and used the backs as well. It only took me a little more than a day. Thank you girls. Keep them coming

  • @amtrakcndr1 Thanks! We'd love to see the quilt you made!! I bet it turned out great!

  • i love this!!,

ive seen them done before but they've always looked stretched and yucky!! but now i know how to makethem awesome!! thank you!!

  • @zebramummy Good luck making yours! I think you'll be surprised how easy it is, with the right stuff! :)

  • Thanks for that info. I have collected alot of tshirts but didn't know I needed the white glue on material , so

  • I really want to make one of these for my nephew... can you please tell us what number of Pellon this is so that I make sure I get the right one? Thank you so much, you did a great job Natalie :)

  • @azbelle3 Fusible Featherweight to Midweight Interfacing (white) Yardage by Pellon SKU# 911FF This is what we use! Hope this helps! Have fun quilting!

  • Love the quilt you made for your son! Kicking myself for throwing out many race shirts!

  • You make it look sooo easy. Excellent tutorial! Thanks Natalie!

  • Great video. I've wanted to finish a t-shirt quilt, but was nervous about how to prepare the fabric. Now I see how easy it is - thanks!

  • Awesome!! For sure will be doing this one!!

  • Very new to me and love it

  • very helpful. Had not seen or heard of this before.

  • My Roommate and I are about to start making our first tshirt quilts with our sorority t-shirts! So excited to get started and this video was incredibly helpful! Thanks so much!

  • This will be my first tee shirt quilt! i've looked everywhere for tutorials! THIS WAS MY DREAM COME TRUE! Thank you SO much :) GREAT tutorial & excellent instructions! THANK YOU<3

  • I have learned a lot watching your video, and have to share what our family has done for years...when we sut up t-shirts for whatever reason, we save the left over parts since the make the best dust rags around. I am anxious to get my shirts out and start getting them ready...thanks.

  • I wish I had watched this before I cut my shirts and ironed the interfacing on... I cut the squares to size FIRST then ironed on the interfacing and it changed the shapes of my squares and really messed me up! This was very helpful!

  • Thanks for this! I can't wait to try making mine.

  • Doesn't it seem like a waste of the iron on interfacing to put it all the way to the bottom of the shirt when it shows that she throws the bottom part away when she cuts out the block part that she wants to use?

  • @anniepil

No. When cutting t shirts you want to cut through both the shirt and the interfacing, therefore the interfacing needs to be larger than the actual size you are cutting. Also, the short piece at the bottom will be almost too small to use for another tshirt block anyway. She didn't actually iron that piece so she could have picked it up and saved it for something smaller, if necessary.

  • wow!! This is a great idea.. am gonna do this to my old t-shirt!! Thank you natalie.. Y'all are great.. I learnt a lot..

  • Thanks for sharing, made my confidence level go UP! I have a bunch of LSU T Shirts from my daughter who just got married and would make a lovely keepsake! Really appreciate you sharing your gift!!

  • Great videos... Thank you for making this project much easier to complete..I am utilizing my husband's fire t-shirts..He is a wildland firefighter..

  • Great video Natalie! I have learned to quilt using all your videos and I can't tell you how much I appreciate it! XOXO

  • Great tutorial! Thx!!

  • Thanks for taking the time to make this video.

One suggestion: save those cotton T-shirt scraps! They make great rags. Save a little money by using them for window washing and other jobs that aren't extremely messy/germy, then just wash in the washing machine and re-use them. You can store the clean ones in a bag sock.

  • Enjoyed your tutorial. Thanks for the tips. Wonder how this type of quilt was constructed. Thanks.

  • Natalie, loved the tutorial. Love your hair cut!!!!

  • Natalie, this is a GREAT tutorial! Thank you! And I LOVE your super cute new hair style! : )

  • Wow, you guys are awesome!! We are so grateful for such a positive response!! I'm for sure gonna tell Natalie how much you liked her hair!! LOL! You guys are the best!

    Thanks!

  • I have always wanted to know how to make these quilts....your tutorial was wonderful, now I will have to collect T-Shirts

  • Checkout You Tube up-cycling videos for mores uses and crafts with the excess Tee material (older Threadbanger posts); or the library has books like this book: 101 Ways to Transform a T-shirt.

  • 1.If you desire to have less waste, square up your Tshirt block FIRST and then iron it to your stabilizer; the difference is dramatic on your yardage!

2.Also if you want a more cozy everyday blanket an alternative is to use your square ruler and cut through BOTH layers of T-shirt. Then you can sew the double (or triple if you add a stabilizer fabric) layer blocks together like a baby rag quilt. This works out much like flannel, the T-shirt fabric also doesn't fray.

  • I always wondered how you make the t-shirt quilt, thanks for sharing this video..great job! Love your hair too and I think you are a great teacher too like your Mom :) MSQC is the best!

  • Thanks Natalie. I have been saving my kids T-shirts since they were little of all their sports team, to make these. I was afraid of having it stretch out of shape in the wash, but wanted it to be washable. I wasn't quite clear on the stabilizer to use. I've asked for stabilizers before & some of the things they will ask you:1) Do you want woven or non-woven? 2)paper-backed or not? 3)fusible or not? You're video used lightweight fusible one side, but is it woven or paper-backed? Thnx

  • Thanks so much! I've been wanting to make this type of quilt and you have inspired me with the projects you shared!

  • I love all your tutorials, thank you. I really love the quilt hanging on the wall behind you (color: pink/aqua/whtie novelty). What's the name of the pattern? is it baby size or lap size?

  • Great Tutorial!!! I love what u did with your son's quilt Congrats from Chile ... :D

  • Love what you have done. I have always wanted to make a T shirt quilt, but didn't really know where to begin. You have made my day. MSQ company is the first place I go each day. Thanks

  • Very good tutorial - as all of the MSQ videos are. Your company is my first source for How-to's because they are so thorough, informative and "fun" to follow. Thank you.

  • GREAT tutorial! I have saved all my boys H.S. and band tshirts, also my oldest son's Army shirts to make these kind of quilts! I had no idea to use the pelon, so happy I watched this! :) :)

  • very good tutorial, natalie u r a natural in front of the camera just like your mother. I learned the applique u showed on the dot to dot pattern, which was also informative.

    thanks for this

  • Thank you for an easy to understand video! Love your hair too! great job!

  • Great tutorial, Natalie! Now I want to make a t-shirt quilt for someone... *lol* I like the two different colors on your sister's quilt and love the way you did your son's quilt....

  • wonderful idea for all those T shirts. Good job

  • Super job!!! Natalie, i wish i'd seen this one, before i made my GS his high school memory quilt... it was way before i actually knew what i was doing and before MSQC was here to help guide me... mine was bumpy and irregular, but it brought tears to his eyes!!! Now i can make them "neatly" for others... thanks so much..

  • You did great Natalie! I love the part about the stinking armpits! ^^

  • Thank you I just love it!!! great tutorial :o)

  • you had great t-shirts t work with, color and design-wise. The orange and blue tones that you chose worked beautifully, this quilt is gorgeous! Thanks for doing a really great job demonstrating the process! Keep making videos for us!

  • Natalie - You did a great job. Thank you for the neat idea. Karen Latsch

  • fabulous idea thank you

  • My husband must have nearly 100 Harley Davidson t-shirts and a buddy of his got a HD t-shirt quilt last Christmas. He's been bugging me for one but I've been hesitant because I wasn't sure how. Thank you so much!

  • Great video Natalie . . you done a great job while Ms Jenny away . .YaaaY! . . . since I design and press/print T-shirt everyday . . here's a tip for ya . . if your afraid of hitting the design with an iron . . keep a few sheets of parchment paper handy . . the parchment paper can handle up to 400º without hurting the t-shirt design .

  • and ---- . however depending on the medium used for the design on the t-shirt . . you might see a """tad""" of ink raise off the design . . if you should fear this . . leave parchment paper on the t-shirt until it cools down . .

  • Great Video thanks so much for sharing great idea for the grand kids T-Shirts

  • What a neat idea! :)

  • TOTALLY AWESOME...I have the most massive Tshirt Quilt project in my head, and have been searching all over the interwebs, stalking your site, watching ALL of your vids to see if there was anything, and BAM here you are in my Sub box, telling me exactly what I needed to know...THANK YOUUUUUU <3 <3 <3

  • i made a t-shirt quilt for my mother one year for christmas I just used white shirts cut in to 12 inch squares and I made iron on pictures of me, my brother and our grandparents and me & my brother with our mom, I ironed them to the squares, it was so pretty in the end she loved it so much she wont even use it, she says it's to special to use. it was onf of my forst quilts I made that was about 5 years ago, im 23 now and can't stop quilting.

  • loved this idea and have shared it,

  • Hi Hoosiermama, The main reason you want to stabalize your fabric is for the machine quilting. So if you are going to hand quilt it or tie it you can use what ever fabric you want. I hope this helps.

    Jenny

  • OK, but what if you want your Tshirt quilt to be made entirely out of knit material so it has that soft stretchy feel all over? Would you have to stabilize everything that makes up the top? Stabilze the bottom if it's made out of fleece or knit too? Do you have to use the stabilizer at all or is that too hard to do?

  • I just did the slice layer cake quilt, I can't wait to try this one out!
