When I heard this song for the first time this morning, I imagined the inside of a massive Old English church, much like the walls of a dark mysterious castle, with shadowed, black walls and red drapes and carpeting. Candles glowed dimly and the coffin of an old man lay upon the altar alone, statues of angelic beings towering above it in front of a stained glass window many times its size. This song has incredible power over me. I could not believe the awe that overwhelmed me.
i have to say, i much prefer the slower version... it really allows the melody to ferment and spread inside you, especially the crescendo section. just a masterwork.
@BonzaiBillie1 Ooh, I don't know of a slower version, which one do you mean? I always listen to the same interpretation over on Deezer so this is the speed I'm used to for the entire Requiem.
I would really like to know what inspired Mozart to write such a piece! It's totally Majestic, but the lyrics are also kinda creepy! =S... Beautiful,.. in one word
This is one of the most beautiful pieces of music ever written. Mozart was a true genius. I love the tune of the part where they say Lacrimosa at the beginning. :)
Evanescence did a cover of this song called Lacrymosa, which is also a brilliant piece. Opera sounds so awesome and epic with guitars! :D
I think this piece, the 'Lacrimosa' is perhaps the most beautiful piece of music ever composed by man. Thank you for posting it with the translation.
No song on earth effects me like this one does. I literally don't know who I am or what to do with myself after I listen to this. Everything else seems shallow and pointless. This, my friends, is art.
@1491juliene1491 Kinda puts it into perspective when the nerd fanboys claim that video games are art. Yeah, cause Halo and this are on the same par, lol
@Nelsonhojax15 That's funny because video games can be on the same playing field as Mozart at times, in terms of visual art. A lot of games also have amazing soundtracks that are on par with Wolf Gangs work.
@PridefulDawn Well the soundtrack would be the soundtrack, something to be judged on it's own, as well as the graphic interface. I'm not saying video games can't blow you away in terms of style and sound, but they're games, you go in to them expecting to get a competitive thrill out of them, which is all fine. Art isn't about cheap competitive thrills, it's about being moved in a special way, whether through painting, music, etc. And I'm sorry but there is no video game on par with mozart.
@Nelsonhojax15 Coming from an enthusiastic gamer and classical music fan, I agree. No video game (or video game composer) could ever equal Mozart. Luckily, I doubt any would be arrogant enough to try. I do believe that video games can be art, however. I've played many games that I thought were deeply emotionally moving, especially in the indie genre. With that said, I wouldn't dream of equating them with Mozart (or Bach or Liszt or Beethoven or Brahms or Mahler or Rembrandt or Dali or Da Vinci)
@BlobicusPrime Y'know, I don't think it's impossible for video games to become art in the future. If they continue to follow the paths set by games like Heavy Rain, etc., I think that it could become more then just a competition, but a real moving, immersing experience. Like a movie that you control. I'm just saying right now, video games, at least most video games, are not "art." Thanks for the kudos though!
@Nelsonhojax15 actually it is completely about competitive thrills the multimillion price tags these so called works of art carry are proof, tell me if you feel moved by a picture of cans of soup or a toilet. Also do you judge a clock by it's individual gears?
Have you never played Okami? People that don't know anything about games shouldn't talk about them.
@GrimHeaperThe Look, it's not the price-tag that identifies art, it's the experience. Creativity and beauty culminating in an extravaganza celebrating the human soul. That is how I would define true art. While I am personally not moved by every painting or sculpture, what my point is that right now, there is no video game that can be equated with Mozart, Michaelangelo, Shakespeare, etc. Have you ever even been to an art museum? Those who don't know anything about art, shouldn't talk about them.
@GrimHeaperThe "The Smithsonian?" There's more then just one idiot! Duchamp's work and ideas are some pretty deep stuff and I doubt that neither you nor any other gamer has thoughts of indifferent art when you play call of duty. I'm not saying video games aren't a huge part of modern culture, or that they haven't contributed to the world as we know it right now. But I am saying that video games, as of now, cannot be art. This is due to the fact that they are competition based GAMES!
@Nelsonhojax15 It's what the museum is called deal with it,
I don't play anything competitive based so, so much for that point, you are lumping people together as well you are no better than a racist.
All Duchamp's works did is made it to where anything can be art.
Hey people also sell their 5 year old's paintings as art when it's just paint flinged on canvas. I hope you won't claim that something a 5 year old flung onto canvas has more thought than COD.
@GrimHeaperThe You don't even understand Duchamp. I'm not going to fight with you on that, if everything is art then nothing is. Know your stuff before you say it. At this point you're heaving charges of racism and child cruelty on me, and your nerdy fanboyism has completely taken over whatever remote form or argument you started out there. I don't care if YOU think video games are art or not, I have simply been explaining why I, as of right here and now, do not think that video games are art.
@Nelsonhojax15 "your nerdy fanboyism has completely taken over whatever remote form or argument you started out there." There it is again that bullshit again that's no better than racism.
It doesn't matter if you don't think video games are art the fact of the matter is they are.
@GrimHeaperThe I cannot believe you're equating the fact that I don't agree with you as racism. That's so ridiculous it's insulting. Racism is treating people poorly solely because of the color of their skin. That has NOTHING to do with anything we've been talking about. I think it's pretty lame of you to claim that video games are art, not just that you believe that. That's like saying "I don't care if you don't think Spy Kids was a good movie, it was!" I'm entitled to my opinion.
@Nelsonhojax15 Actually it's "I don't care if you don't think Spy Kids was a movie, it was!"
I never claimed they were good art, saying something is art doesn't mean it's good it just means it's art.
I said like racism, ever watch revenge of the nerds?
I'm talking that shit there preppy highschool clique bullshit that picks on a certain group of people for liking things and fixing stereotypes on them.
@GrimHeaperThe Ugh, what on Earth are you going on about? Who said I was a "preppy highschooler?" I like video games, but I don't consider them to be works of art, RIGHT NOW. I have said before, I think they have the potential to grow into an art form, but just because you like something, doesn't mean you get to call it art, good or bad. And I assume because you like video games, you would consider them good art! I like cheese, someone had to make it, that DOESN'T make it art.
@Nelsonhojax15 Not all games are competition based. Do you know what it takes to even make a game? Artists.. It takes creativity and skill to draw concept art or design a level to strike different emotions in a player (isnt that what art is all about?)
Of course not all games are made equal. The same care and attention isnt put in all games but the same can be said about paintings and music. Art is in the eyes of the beholder.
@gordon1201 Did you pay attention to my earlier comments? I said that if games continue to follow the forms of things like "Heavy Rain" then it is very possible that games could evolve into a real art form. But just because someone designed the game board of monopoly, doesn't mean that it's art. If you're trying to say that Graphic artists work on video games, then yes, that is correct. But I'm talking about contributions to humanity here. Mozart, the renaissance, etc.
@GrimHeaperThe Hey friendo, keep to your own arguments and stay out of other ones. Seriously, are you like, the video game crusader or something? Go back to your 4-chan forums and bitch to them.
@GrimHeaperThe Oh you're for being correct, I'm so sorry, I thought you were just trolling me, you wanna be right! I would have never thought that! It's rare these days to find someone who is for being correct, I sure as hell wasn't trying to be correct or anything like that. My opinions are meaningless oh omnipotent one! Seriously man, get over yourself.
@GrimHeaperThe I do agree, you do need to get over yourself. At this point you've descended into the "I know you are but what am I" field of comebacks, so I'm going to go and claim victory here.
@GrimHeaperThe Well we are arguing are we not? And I would hope you are somewhat familiar with the concept of winning an argument. And...who are you talking to? He? You replied to my comment!
@GrimHeaperThe Oh..my..GOD! What the hell is wrong with you? I said I thought video games were disqualified from being art due to the competitive nature, I never said I was against competition, or that competition wasn't fun, etc. Honestly, it's like talking to a dim-witted 1st grader. It's like you take the smallest part of a sentence and try and make an argument. Racism? anti-competition? Get a fucking brain-cell you moron!
All u posers saying you're gonna play it at your funeral are annoying. I actualy went thru with it and had them play it at my funeral. The wifi in the afterlife is pretty good.
@ispinintights The image this brings to mind makes me cackle. It's just a dorm hallway, with muffled singing while the shower runs, and one by one students pop their heads out and look at one another.
@silverchyld Lol that's pretty accurate, not going to lie. Luckily they're all friendly. :) And HOLY CRAP I didn't realize my comment had so many likes. I feel special.
@stayeducated1 & @Archeon: In order to understand Latin, you have to study the symbolics of it... Text: "Judicandus Homo reus" (0:50 m) -> guilty man (AND WOMAN) te be judged !!! Of course "man AND woman" because BOTH, Adam & Eve were (according to the bible), both, the first sinners.
Women are NOT animals, you know, the are "human beiings" too... even "equal to men" (unless you are followers of mo-the-pedo).
@Archeon233 Nevertheless... Pontius Pilatus spoke the words: "ecce homo" when he showed Jesus (after he was flogged/whipped/crowned), to the Jewish crowd.
"Look at that man/human beiing" at respons to the earlier statement of jesus that he was the son of god... NO GOD, but only ... a common human beiing.
Well it depends on how you look at it. Christians believe Jesus purposely didn't call on God so to say so they could be saved. Others say Jesus wasn't the Messiah but just a prophet. Still others believe he didn't exist and that the bible was just society's way of telling us "Straighten your act up" And there's other ways of looking at it.... I am fairly new to learning latin and I can see your point now so I apologize.
@Archeon233 Excuses accepted and your first reaction buried in the sand of the Northsea. I'm glad that you learned the lesson of NEVER taking a word "litterally" but allways in the contex of a sence. I hope that your further studies will be succesful, and... remember: nil volentibus arduum. { nothing is impossible for those who (have the will to achieve their goal)} (^_-)
Greeting from Zeebrugge, Vlaanderen (the Dutch-speaking north of Belgium.
Come now. I wish you wouldn't bring up "there is no god". You don't know, I don't know, so leave people to admire music and express their delight through divinities.

@crostthefrostt He didn't, but Fringe is awesome, so you get a thumbs up from me. I came here because it was mentioned in the FAQ of the Symphony X site.
@2tanyeri Sorry man, I have absolutely no idea as I'm still on the very first episodes of season 1 XD and I'm not a classical music buff, so I'm afraid I can't help, sorry! D=
I believe Mozart repented of his belonging to the Occult Freemasons and began work on music for God instead, upon doing this they murdered him right after this song, but he got this one in good and proper before they did ... he went out with an almighty BANG, as you can hear his cry to God inside the sounds .... spine chilling ... (12 semitones in music, 12 tribes of israel, 12 apostles, 12 strands in human DNA, 12 hours on clock, 12 months in a year, 12 star signs .. the truth is everywhere...)
i know this song from evanescence who made a song with the same name and music but i was taken by the music i just had to hear the original ...amazing !!

Thanks for posting the lyrics. I now sing this in the shower, and freak out the people in my dorm.
ispinintights 2 months ago 162

Victor20376 1 month ago
@Victor20376
no dumbass homosapien means "human being"
Archeon233 1 month ago
@Archeon233 Nevertheless... Pontius Pilatus spoke the words: "ecce homo" when he showed Jesus (after he was flogged/whipped/crowned), to the Jewish crowd.
"Look at that man/human beiing" at respons to the earlier statement of jesus that he was the son of god... NO GOD, but only ... a common human beiing.
Victor20376 1 month ago
@Victor20376
Archeon233 1 month ago
@Archeon233
There's also the word Judicandus which if I'm correct means "Judge" I also believe it invokes the traitor Judas... but it's just a theory
Archeon233 1 month ago
@Archeon233 Excuses accepted and your first reaction buried in the sand of the Northsea. I'm glad that you learned the lesson of NEVER taking a word "litterally" but allways in the contex of a sence. I hope that your further studies will be succesful, and... remember: nil volentibus arduum. { nothing is impossible for those who (have the will to achieve their goal)} (^_-)

at 2:33 the walls in my room start to warp in and out of reality, I believe Mozart is opening a Temporal Rift leading to unknown dimensions ...
KoolSoftware 3 months ago
I believe Mozart repented of his belonging to the Occult Freemasons and began work on music for God instead, upon doing this they murdered him right after this song, but he got this one in good and proper before they did ... he went out with an almighty BANG, as you can hear his cry to God inside the sounds .... spine chilling ... (12 semitones in music, 12 tribes of israel, 12 apostles, 12 strands in human DNA, 12 hours on clock, 12 months in a year, 12 star signs .. the truth is everywhere...)
KoolSoftware 3 months ago
@KoolSoftware 12 strands in human DNA? LOL. Don't get your science mixed up with "2012 is near" stories.
