Not Russian at all. It was a poem written by a Ukrainian (Yevhen Pavlovych Hrebinka), and set to music written by a German named Florian Hermann. Yevhen wrote in both Russian and Ukrainian. Later, an original arrangement of the music was recorded several different occasions by Belgian gypsy Jean "Django" Reinhardt.
@seigneursaladin88 well i'd say they are....moscow was built at a time when the Ukraine was invaded by the "tatars", as a retraite outpost. so russians and ukrainians are of the same blood. Kiev used to be the capital before moscow in ancient times. A ukrainien freind of mine met in france also told me this !
@seigneursaladin88 Yes they are same people by blood and by history , they both came from the kievan rus and in the end they returned to the Russian empire . Ukraine was never a country only after the dissolution of the soviet union .
@11BravoMadness This is what ukrainians like to think, the truth is that Russians and Ukrainians ARE the same people, they just forgot history and traditions.
it depends on WHEN. I am either Ukranian and/or russian depending on when the boundary lines were drawn, and believe me, that is not even the HALF of it.
@seigneursaladin88 Honest to god I thought the same thing for the last 20 years, but some people are VERY nationalistic and are offended when you call them Russian. Be careful.
@seigneursaladin88 Ukrainians are mix of Poliaks, Turkeys and a bit Russians, armenians and other mixes. Considering they hate Russians and Poliaks they are more other mixes, maybe more turkish. Anyhow dirty mix and mean distructive animals but human beings though.
@seigneursaladin88 Ukrainians and Byelorussians ("White Russians") constitute original Russian Folk. Later on, a part of Russia around Moscow pretended to be
"a core" of Russian Identity. In fact, Russians and even Slavs constitute ethnic minority there.
Yes, Gypsies are Roma. I had the opportunity to hang out with a Gypsy in Kosovo. He spoke 3 or 4 languages fluently. He didn't play guitar though. Man, was I robbed.
Belgian gipsy, lol. Django Was gispy, not belgian.
Born on the belgian part of the border but not "Belgian", although he composed "PlaceDe Brouckere". If Django is to be attached to a nationality, its definitely not Belgian (and I Love Belgium) but French. But he was a gipsy, so... no nationality :D
@11BravoMadness These guys wrote similar music BUT absolutely different. You must be brainless, tasteless or just Ukrainien what is the worst. Either way big dumb with fake pride.
@11BravoMadness Still it IS Russian. Dark Eyes. The lyrics were written by a Ukrainian poet Evgeni Grebenka IN RUSSIAN and published on January 17 1843 in a popular newspaper in Russia. In 1884 a Russian composer of German origin Florian Hermann composed the melody, Valse Hommage. Evgeni Grebenka has written many Russian romances which later on became "gipsy" songs. Thanks for posting

Translation 1 Dark eyes, terrifying eyes! Eyes fiery and beautiful! How I love you! How I fear you! Indeed when I saw you, it was an unlucky hour! Oh, not without reason you are of the dark depths. I see mourning in you in my soul. I see conquering flame in you. My poor heart is afire with it! But I am not sad. I am not regretful. My fate is a comfort to me. Everything of the best in life that God gave us I have given as a sacrifice to the eyes of fire.

OCHI CHERNYE (Traduction)
Yeux sombres, yeux terrifiants!
Regard ardent et beau!
Comme je vous aime! Comme je vous crains!
En effet quand je vous ai vus, c'était une heure malheureuse!
Yeux sombres, flambants yeux!
Ils me séduisent même en un pays éloigné,
Où des règnes d'amour, où des règnes de paix,
Où il n'y a aucune souffrance, où l'hostilité est proscrite.

OCHI CHERNYE (Translation)
Dark eyes, terrifying eyes!
Eyes fiery and beautiful!
How I love you! How I fear you!
Indeed when I saw you, it was an unlucky hour!
Dark eyes, flaming eyes!
They even lure me to a distant country,
Where love reigns, where peace reigns,
Where there is no suffering, where enmity is outlawed.
