@Farmerat911 Members of the Church leave all judgment in God's hands. They are commanded to perform vicarious ordinances for all deceased persons for whom records exist. This is no way guarantees or implies Hitler's acceptance of Mormonism or forgiveness. Such matters are left to God. Do you really wish to imply, though, that even the most wicked sinner might be beyond the reach of Christ's atoning grace? The Latter-day Saints do not. Are you a worthy judge?
AH HA HA HA! I can't believe you can even say this with a straight face. Good for you! You just believe no matter how stupid it sounds! ah ah ha ha ha. Wow.
@M424Filmcast By the way, most people I know don't say Mormons believe "God LIVES on Kolob". The average person thinks you believe "God CAME FROM Kolob". Isn't that an accurate statement? You go to great lengths to disprove God currently living there, but that isn't even why people make fun of your religion. You guys sound crazy, but on some level you must realize it.
@bneyens The "average person" is wrong. We do not believe either. You obviously don't know what the scripture says in regards to this. Before criticising and going by what these "average people" (whoever they are) say, you should ask or look it up. I don't know who these "average people" are, but I have not met anyone who believes that about us. I don't care who makes fun of our religion. Atheists make fun of ALL religion. That doesn't make them look very smart does it? (cont.)
@bneyens (cont.) You say we sound "crazy". That's fine. Jesus sounded crazy to the mainstream of His day too, and I'm sure He realised it. He was proven right. Again, atheists say we all sound crazy, with our stories of talking snakes, naked people living in a garden, guys living in a whales stomach for three days, people coming back to life, stones being turned into bread, magical food falling from the sky, etc. Do you see how ridiculous your argument sounds now? On some level I guess.
@M424Filmcast I will have to take your word for on what Atheists think, I am not an atheist. You could classify me as "the anti-mormon crowd". You can say "God does not live in Kolob". In an explanation of an Egyptian hypocephalus that was part of the Book of Abraham scrolls, Joseph Smith interpreted one set of hieroglyphics as representing: "Kolob, signifying the first creation, nearest to the celestial, or the residence of God." You can't blame people for thinking that.
@bneyens I wasn't always LDS. I was atheist for a time. I did not become LDS until I was 21. In re: what Joseph wrote, he was exactly right. Kolob (a star), signifying (representing or being) the first creation, nearest the celestial (kingdom), or the residence (heaven) of God. All additions here are mine. In other words, the star Kolob, is the nearest star to heaven where God resides. Not the star/planet He lives on or is from. I can blame people for misinterpreting without asking.
@M424Filmcast I didn't ask? I must be crazy, because I thought I wrote "Isn't that an accurate statement?". So Kolob is a star signifying "creation" (whatever that means), which is near heaven, and that is where God resides. Ok, that still sounds very weird to those who don't believe. I can actually appreciate your absolute faith in this, and willingness to openly defend it. I give you props for that. I do however honestly believe Mormons are methodically brainwashed. (Cont)
@bneyens I wasn't referring to you not asking. I was referring to those who don't ask. In regards to "brainwashed" that is absolutely ridiculous. No one is forced to learn anything, nor is anyone forced to stay in the church. Everything sounds weird in the Bible. Can you prove that there is a big happy guy who lives in the sky and likes people that he made out of dirt?
@M424Filmcast I never said people were forced. From my experience, the conversion usually occurs when the person is in a fragile emotional state, and WANT to believe in something external for help. i.e., someone dies, or something is going wrong in their life and want a release. These are prime subjects. Give them Moroni's promise when that person is in trouble, and they convert their own emotional distress into belief. What was going on in your life when you converted if you don't mind?
@bneyens Again, this can be said about any conversion to any religion. Large numbers turn to religion of all kinds when going through crises. This is not exclusive to the LDS church. In my case, atheism did not give me the answers I wanted. My years previous to atheism were spent in "historical christianity", and did not give me the answers. I simply asked about the church, followed Moroni's words, and found what I was looking for. 20 years later, I'm very happy.
@M424Filmcast (cont) that is why I want to share my perspective. I read the BOM and took Moroni's challenge with an open heart. It didn't work. I was told by a missionary to try again, it didn't work again. After the 3rd time I realized the purpose of this repetition is to condition my brain . It is widely known that the brain can convince itself of anything. Then I realized why Mormons always must share their testimony... To reinforce the conditioning. Very clever. (Cont)
@bneyens There is no "conditioning". What the missionaries were simply doing is asking you to continue to have faith. You may have expected instant results. No one gains faith instantly. They simply wanted you to continue to ask God to confirm things. That is not brainwashing or conditioning. We are not forced to share testimonies either.
@M424Filmcast (cont) The final piece was realizing that its just a business. You have door to door Sales people (missionaries) who play the "numbers game" to get people to condition themselves. A certain small percentage will accept this conditioning. Then once the emotional reasponse happens, you are hooked and logic/reason go out the window. Then the track your tithing (Accounting), create tv/internet ads (Marketing/Advertising). They own your brain.
@M424Filmcast No ad hominem here, just examples. Other churches don't formally require being a missionary. They don't formally track tithing and withhold temple services for non-payment, which is very suspect. They don't produce television ads/internet ads. I don't think its ridiculous at all to call it brainwashed. Not even catholics believe the pope speaks directly and on BEHALF of God, which is absolute control. And testimonies are certainly encouraged, if not officially required.
@bneyens That is ad hominem, and you are ignoring much of what christianity does these days. We do not require formal missionary service. All churches that take tithing or other offererings track payments. It's called accounting. In re: ads...give me a break. I can find 100's of ads from christian churches on tv, radio, internet and print. I was catholic for the first 14 years of my life. So don't tell me they don't believe that the Pope does not speak for God.
@M424Filmcast I too was Catholic, and the pope does not officially pretend to speak on behalf of God. Give it a rest. NOT ALL CHURCHES TRACK TITHING. As a former Catholic, how can you even say that? Does the collection bin pay attention? Are you punished if you don't tithe by not sealing with your wife in the temple to get into the "best" heaven"? That is horrible IMO. Very cruel monetary control. Secret handshakes to get into heaven? I am glad you were able to convince yourself. Enjoy.
@bneyens Okay, have it your way. This is Burger King, may I take your order now? You have apparently convinced yourself of a whole lot here. Good luck with that. I'm off to make a difference in the world. Sorry you don't wish to join the fight. Big Brother is here. No hard feelings from me. Later.
@bneyens Testimonies are encouraged in all churches. You are attempting to paint a portrait of the LDS church that does not exist. Give it a rest. I really don't have time for this right now, as instead of rehashing the same thing with someone, I am busily engaged in fighting the changes being forced upon millions with Google and YouTube. If you wish to join the fight and unite with those of us engaged in the battle, see my channel. We need all the help we can get.
@M424Filmcast Now, putting all differences aside, Don't forget to join the Worldwide YouTube Boycott Weekend on Feb 18 & 19th, don't log in to your account during this time and also make your videos private, YT relies heavily on advertising revenue so if we all do this they will lose out big time, spread the word...BOYCOTT!
@M424Filmcast Google "Bill Maher mormons" and watch a couple of those videos. If voters find out mormons are baptizing the voters' dead non-mormon relatives into the mormon church, Mitt Romney can kiss his presidential aspirations goodbye. If polygamy was cool with joe smith and brigham young, why do mormons call it weird now and chastise anyone that participates in it. Mormons do still believe in polygamy in the celestial kingdom.
@cloudbuster77 Like I really care about what Bill Maher has to say. I really don't care who becomes president of the U.S. because I won't be in the country long enough to care. We don't call polygamy "weird", nor chastise anyone who participates in it. We simply are following what God tells us through a prophet. I now have to get back to the frontline fight to save our You?Tube channels. I don't have time to rehash arguments I've had 1000's of times. Thanks for watching.
Seriously, discounting other Mormons as 'not having done their research' is ridiculous. Clearly you haven't had your endowment ceremony yet... try not wearing sunglasses indoors in the dark, and maybe you'll see the light.
@psyberwyche Yeah, well after almost 20 years in the church, I speak plainly whether in person or on the net. The truth is, many members do not research. I do. Clearly you do not know me, and therefore should not attempt to judge what my experience is in the temple or anywhere else.
Romney’s hero Joseph Smith, founder of the Mormon church, had 35 wives (proposed to 1 girl when she was a 12 & who later said she felt like an abused child & 11 who were already married)
Joseph Smith had 2 great Apostles - Brigham Young (56 wives) & Parley Pratt (only 12 wives because the husband of 1 wife killed him).
Mitt Romney is a direct descendent of Parley Pratt who along w/Joseph Smith spoke the absolute truth!
@MenkeEntertainment It was just a cheap one I found at the Fry's electronic store on sale about a year ago. I don't have the original packaging, and it doesn't have the brand name on it. Sorry I can't help more than that.
- Kolob is "the great governing star of our universe" and "the residence of God." See Prophet Joseph Fielding Smith's "Church History and Modern Revelation" Volume 3, Page 60.
Very Christian of you to start off with a sarcastic insult. You are right in that you don't represent Mormons, but greatly generalized when you said it was "... a fact... we [Mormons] do not believe God lives on the planet Kolob." I know several Mormons (family and friends) that take it quite literal, as crazy as it it clearly is, and absolutely believe that God actually lives on the planet Kolob. Furthermore, if you did your research you'd find that a few past leaders of the church, incl
@mlynchva NOt an insult just the truth. If you want to be a critic, don't claim to have hurt feelings. I don't care what you "several mormon friends" told you. Some members have not studied as well as they should. No biggie. This isn't even a huge deal except to non-mormons. First of all, if you had listened to the entire vid, you would have noticed that Kolob is not even a planet. The scriptures are correct. The opinions of men are not always correct. Past leaders included.
LDS scripture states: "And by the word of my power, have I created them, which is mine Only Begotten Son, who is full of grace and truth. And worlds without number have I created; and I also created them for mine own purpose; and by the Son I created them, which is mine Only Begotten." (Moses 1:32)
Who is right on this? Creedal Christians who cannonized Earth centricity and "no other world" philosophy? Or, does the "worlds without number" sound much more accurate? Not a tough one.
Early Christian orthodoxy denied the existence of other worlds. It was deeply challenging to Christians to face the facts that the Earth wasn't the center of the universe. Also challenging were other facts of astronomy; the universe is massive, the Earth is only one of countless planets, and the likely fact that there is life elsewhere in the universe. I can't understand why critics cite Kolob when it only supports the truth -- the Mormon theology of infinite worlds was correct, your's wasn't.
Good video. Did Jesus bodily resurrect from the grave? Did he eat the fish and the honeycomb? Could the disciples feel the nails in his hands and feet? The Lord never did anything without a purpose. Usually that purpose was to teach. If it is not prudent for diety to have a body of flesh and bone, then why did Jesus reclaim his? What happened to Jesus' body after the ascention? Did he die again? God can do all things, he can surely do something as simple as shake your hand. That's biblical.
Mormon's don't really believe that God lives on Kolob? You apparently don't know you're own religion or what your leaders and prophets have taught...

Also check out Orson Pratt, The Seer, Washington D. C., 1854, p. 132. He comes right out and says that God the Father had a Father before him, and so on and so on.
How is this the Christian "God" with no other gods before him?
Hey LongHairedMormonDude, I have two questions for you.
This video is the first time I've heard of the Star/Planet Kolob. So if the Mormon belief is that God exists with a physical body, do you have a name for the actual place God lives without referencing Kolob? And does God live on a planet or star?
Second question. Do other Mormons ever give you a hard time over your long hair?
@LDS4Life71 - glad they make you smile.. but the material is a bigger joke... and that's the sad serious part. Tell me.. these quaker like people on the moon that Smith prophesied were there... have you met any? lol ..lol .. I love mormonism.. it's a bag of laughs one day after the next and more laughable that people like LDS4Life71 believes it.lol..lol..lol... you people are so queer...lol. Ask Prof. Brian Cox about how Kolob shares it's sunlight with our Sun, stop filling your head with shit!
@54v115 You are typical of the un-informed antimormon. How about if you share with the class the authourities you have claimed here? Joseph never once prophesied "quaker men on the moon." And by the way, we do not by any means teach Kolob sharing it's light with the Sun. Maybe if you had read the comments below, you would not have exposed such incredible ignorance.
They always quote from fiction: Book of Abraham (Smiths laughable interpretation of papyri), Pearl of great Price - a collection of ideas assimilated, plagiarised, embroidered and doctored ideas of the time amongst others... they really believe this!...
The Protestant historian Martin Marty, commenting on Mormonism, once related an anecdote about a famous 18th-century French aristocrat. Informed that the martyr St. Denis, the first Christian bishop of Paris, had carried his head in his hand for a hundred miles after his execution, she replied that, "In such a promenade, it is the first step that is difficult." She meant, of course, that it isn't the claim that St. Denis walked so far that poses a difficulty.
The exact distance is unimportant. The fundamental question is whether, after his beheading, he walked at all. If that essential point is granted, the rest is mere detail
I heard antimormons say that Mormons believe God lives on Kolob. I'm pretty sure they're right and you don't even know what you believe. You're trying to trick us, right? :) Nice vid.
I think you should address the race issue in Mormonism. Ok, Brigham young said that his word was the truth, and that he was a prophet right, and in the Discourse he said that interracial sex = death on the spot. Not please tell me the "metaphorical" meaning or logic, or any other sort of explanation behind that because I'm sure you guys have one.
@CantWorkDeezGadgets Mormons don't address there racist doctrine any more.Mormons hide from it by saying we have black Mormons so we are not racist. But Mormons do not want to explain to you way there Mormon God Cursed the Laminites (American Indians with Black Skin) in Book of Mormon 2 Nephi 5:21 or why the seed of Cain (Black Africans) were Cursed Black and from the Mormon Priesthood in (Pearl of Great Price Abraham1:21-27) & (Pearl of Great Price Moses 7:8) This is Mormon doctrine it's Racist.
@TruthSeeker211 I do not believe thet every single Mormon is racist, and I am not going to attempt to prove how some parts of the BoM Contradict the Bible. However I would just like to know, why do some adhere to a doctrine that claims that white people die for mixing with Negroes, yet when they do it they don't. Wouldn't that establish Young as a false prophet.
So you just ignore the prejudice teachings right, and assume that Bigham Young was just wrong and the others were right?
"And the Lord said unto me: These are the governing ones; and the name of the great one is Kolob, because it is near unto me, for I am the Lord thy God: I have set this one to govern all those which belong to the same order as that upon which thou standest. "
You're simply amazing--thank you for explaining Kolob for our critics. I assume they will find something else to question and that's ok..questioning gets you to the point where you can choose whether you want to be in God's presence or not. Great video dear brother.
@THELDSLIFE Naww...His vids are much more spiritual and eloquent than mine. He's also not as wierd looking LOL!
I like his approach better, keep in mind, there will be responses to some of the anti's in vid form that may be a little more "rock and roll mormon" style hahaha...In other words, a little more plain spoken and--blunt? I might even have another one tonight. Live uploads make it much easier than produced vids. Though there will be more of those too. God Bless bro!
So God does not live on Kolob, just near Kolob. Fair enough. However, Joseph Smith claimed that the sun received its light from Kolob through an interstelar medium (see fascimillie #2). This claim is clearly false.
So is it honest to accept the concept that Kolob is used to teach (one thing being higher than another) and yet dismiss the physcial properties that Kolob is described as having?
@FlackerMan This is a nice attempt at a strawman argument creating a premise as though it is church doctrine, and then assuming to know the interpretation of the facsimile. Very clever, however, not clever enough. What you are attempting to state is the following:
the sun [is said] to borrow its light from Kolob through the medium of Kae-e-vanrash, which is the grand Key, or, in other words, the governing power (Abraham Fac 2,Fig 5).
@FlackerMan (cont.) while astrophysics has shown that “The Sun shines ... because of thermonuclear fusion. It does not get its light from any other star.”
There are many scriptures or statements by the prophets that seem to have scientific implications. Unfortunately, they are never couched in modern scientific terms and their meanings are often very obscure. So it is hard to decide who is more foolish — the faithful saint, who interprets them in a way (cont.)
@FlackerMan (cont.)There are many scriptures or statements by the prophets that seem to have scientific implications. Unfortunately, they are never couched in modern scientific terms and their meanings are often very obscure. So it is hard to decide who is more foolish — the faithful saint, who interprets them in a way that forces them into agreement with some current view of science, or the faithless critic, (cont.)
@FlackerMan (cont.) who purposely interprets them in a way that is most at odds with current scientific thought. The Book of Abraham quote cited in the criticism above has inspired both kinds of nonsense, including the interpretation found on the MormonThink web site. The wording of Joseph Smith’s explanation of Figure 5 in Facsimile 2 of the Book of Abraham is, in fact, very difficult to interpret. Let’s see what some of our options are. (cont.)
@FlackerMan First, to “borrow” means to receive with the intention of returning, especially said of a material object or substance. It may also mean to take and adopt as one’s own, especially said of abstractions or ideas, as in “the composer borrowed his harmonic structure from Bach’s Fugue in D Major.” So what does it mean for the sun to “borrow” its light from Kolob? Is light a material or an abstraction? Does the Sun intend to repay the light it borrowed? (cont.)
@FlackerMan What, in fact, is meant by 'light' in this context? Doctrine & Covenants 88:7–13, in wording strongly reminiscent of our Book of Abraham quote, states “7 ...this is the light of Christ. As also he is in the sun, and the light of the sun, and the power thereof by which it was made. 8 As also he is in the moon, and is the light of the moon, and the power thereof by which it was made; 9 As also the light of the stars, and the power thereof by which they were made; (cont.)
@FlackerMan 10 And the earth also, and the power thereof, even the earth upon which you stand. 11 And the light which shineth, which giveth you light, is through him who enlighteneth your eyes, which is the same light that quickeneth your understandings; 12 Which light proceedeth forth from the presence of God to fill the immensity of space — 13 The light which is in all things, which giveth life to all things, which is the law by which all things are governed, (cont.)
@FlackerMan (cont.) even the power of God who sitteth upon his throne, who is in the bosom of eternity, who is in the midst of all things. These verses are clearly NOT talking about electromagnetic radiation. Does anyone have a convincing explanation of what they ARE talking about?
A “medium” can mean a material through which some signal propagates or a means or channel through which something is achieved. What does it mean here? Does it refer to a material or a means? (cont.)
@FlackerMan (cont.) What is Kae-e-vanrash? The Book of Abraham says that it is a “grand Key,” or “governing power.” What does that mean? Is Kae-e-vanrash a term for nuclear reactions, gravitation, cosmic rays? Or is it a more spiritual medium such as priesthood or faith, or an organizational structure, or a means used for administrative communications? And, finally, what are we to understand about the nature of Book of Abraham astronomy? (cont.)
@FlackerMan (cont.) Is it a revelation from God to Abraham explaining the structure of the universe as it would be seen by the astronomers of our day? Or should we remember that “The Lord said unto me: Abraham, I show these things unto thee before ye go into Egypt, that ye may declare all these words.” Abra. 3:15, so that, as John Gee has suggested ("The Larger Issue"), (cont.)
@FlackerMan (cont.) this is simply the teaching that would be easiest for the Egyptians to understand — one that would teach them that Elohim, who dwells near Kolob, rules over than the sun-god, Amen-Re? Until someone can make a convincing case that their interpretation of these things is the only reasonable one, any faith-promoting proof from Abraham’s astronomy is a flimsy house of cards and any faith-destroying attack on some straw-man interpretation is laughable. (cont.)
@FlackerMan (cont.) Among the laughable interpretations is the unjustified suggestion that Abraham taught that the photons leaving the surface of the sun originally came from Kolob. So when criticising the Book of Abraham, or the church in general, you would probably do better to understand the scriptures before attempting to make them an issue. And, understand that strawman arguments are easily blown down in the wind.
@M424Filmcast So taking the scripture as being literal, taking it at face value, is a straw man argument? I am just going by what the text says. How is that a straw man? The church has not interpreted it the way you have, and they should be the ones to clarify it. Only they have the authority to.
BTW, since when does someone need to interpret what is mean by the light of the sun? When your world view makes you have to change what sunlight means, you might want to re-examine your beliefs.
@FlackerMan You were not taking the scripture at face value. I am not new to this, and it was obvious you were creating a premise in order to try to prove a point. Would you care to share your sources as to how the church interprets and clarifies it?
In re: the second part of your comment, you need to remember that this scripture like many in the Bible are meant to teach a lesson. I speak of this in the video. Again, this is not doctrinally injurious nor is it central to doctrine.
For those who continue to believe in EVERY wind of doctrine as it is produced in fantastic sensationalism, they deserve what they get. God lives in the heavens.... the earth is his footstool... and for us, there will be a new heaven and a new earth someday as well. Some folks are SO focused in on certain things that they can not yet comprehend they forget the fate of their own world. At one point, our earth won't even be lit by the sun anymore. We learn this in the Bible. (Isa 60:19-20)
@THELDSLIFE I love this comment. Way, WAY back...in "da oldentimes" (as my 5 yo says), in the middle of my divorce, I quit going to Church. One day, one of my boys (who was about 5 and autistic) overheard me telling a friend that I was at the point where I didn't know if I even believed in God anymore. Later that day, driving home, he says "Mama? Why do you think you're so smart?" I asked what he meant. He said "You think God isn't there just cause you don't see him? That's dumb, Mama."
Hells yes my man! So good to see a video with you in person! I need to get more out there and we still need to do a video together! Great video by the way. I think it would be cool if we could tackle the whole mason thing.. Maybe with the help of theldslife cuz I think he has done a bit of study on the subject.. Anyways, again, good job my man! Keep 'em commin'!
@Nixmix24 LOL! Yeah dude, I totally have an idea for our collaborative. I'm sending it to you right in in a PM. Glad you like the vid bro. I think your idea is a really good one. I will talk to our lds bro ad see what he might have for us. I guess that means we will make at least two vid projects! Cool....
Seems to me that Christians generally believe that God lived on a planet near a start at some time in the past.

I simply asked about the church, followed Moroni's words, and found what I was looking for. 20 years later, I'm very happy.
M424Filmcast 1 month ago
@M424Filmcast (cont) that is why I want to share my perspective. I read the BOM and took Moroni's challenge with an open heart. It didn't work. I was told by a missionary to try again, it didn't work again. After the 3rd time I realized the purpose of this repetition is to condition my brain . It is widely known that the brain can convince itself of anything. Then I realized why Mormons always must share their testimony... To reinforce the conditioning. Very clever. (Cont)
bneyens 1 month ago
@bneyens There is no "conditioning". What the missionaries were simply doing is asking you to continue to have faith. You may have expected instant results. No one gains faith instantly. They simply wanted you to continue to ask God to confirm things. That is not brainwashing or conditioning. We are not forced to share testimonies either.
M424Filmcast 1 month ago
@M424Filmcast (cont) The final piece was realizing that its just a business. You have door to door Sales people (missionaries) who play the "numbers game" to get people to condition themselves. A certain small percentage will accept this conditioning. Then once the emotional reasponse happens, you are hooked and logic/reason go out the window. Then the track your tithing (Accounting), create tv/internet ads (Marketing/Advertising). They own your brain.
bneyens 1 month ago
@bneyens This could be said about any religion, any church, any organisation. That is an ad hominem that doesn't work....
M424Filmcast 1 month ago
@M424Filmcast No ad hominem here, just examples. Other churches don't formally require being a missionary. They don't formally track tithing and withhold temple services for non-payment, which is very suspect. They don't produce television ads/internet ads. I don't think its ridiculous at all to call it brainwashed. Not even catholics believe the pope speaks directly and on BEHALF of God, which is absolute control. And testimonies are certainly encouraged, if not officially required.
bneyens 1 month ago
@bneyens That is ad hominem, and you are ignoring much of what christianity does these days. We do not require formal missionary service. All churches that take tithing or other offererings track payments. It's called accounting. In re: ads...give me a break. I can find 100's of ads from christian churches on tv, radio, internet and print. I was catholic for the first 14 years of my life. So don't tell me they don't believe that the Pope does not speak for God.
M424Filmcast 1 month ago
@M424Filmcast I too was Catholic, and the pope does not officially pretend to speak on behalf of God. Give it a rest. NOT ALL CHURCHES TRACK TITHING. As a former Catholic, how can you even say that? Does the collection bin pay attention? Are you punished if you don't tithe by not sealing with your wife in the temple to get into the "best" heaven"? That is horrible IMO. Very cruel monetary control. Secret handshakes to get into heaven? I am glad you were able to convince yourself. Enjoy.

Mitt Romney is a direct descendent of Parley Pratt who along w/Joseph Smith spoke the absolute truth!

mlynchva 4 months ago
@mlynchva NOt an insult just the truth. If you want to be a critic, don't claim to have hurt feelings. I don't care what you "several mormon friends" told you. Some members have not studied as well as they should. No biggie. This isn't even a huge deal except to non-mormons. First of all, if you had listened to the entire vid, you would have noticed that Kolob is not even a planet. The scriptures are correct. The opinions of men are not always correct. Past leaders included.
M424Filmcast 4 months ago

Second question. Do other Mormons ever give you a hard time over your long hair?

The Protestant historian Martin Marty, commenting on Mormonism, once related an anecdote about a famous 18th-century French aristocrat. Informed that the martyr St. Denis, the first Christian bishop of Paris, had carried his head in his hand for a hundred miles after his execution, she replied that, "In such a promenade, it is the first step that is difficult." She meant, of course, that it isn't the claim that St. Denis walked so far that poses a difficulty.
omiolo 1 year ago
The exact distance is unimportant. The fundamental question is whether, after his beheading, he walked at all. If that essential point is granted, the rest is mere detail

CantWorkDeezGadgets 1 year ago
TruthSeeker211 1 year ago
@TruthSeeker211 I do not believe thet every single Mormon is racist, and I am not going to attempt to prove how some parts of the BoM Contradict the Bible. However I would just like to know, why do some adhere to a doctrine that claims that white people die for mixing with Negroes, yet when they do it they don't. Wouldn't that establish Young as a false prophet.
So you just ignore the prejudice teachings right, and assume that Bigham Young was just wrong and the others were right?

So God does not live on Kolob, just near Kolob. Fair enough. However, Joseph Smith claimed that the sun received its light from Kolob through an interstelar medium (see fascimillie #2). This claim is clearly false.
So is it honest to accept the concept that Kolob is used to teach (one thing being higher than another) and yet dismiss the physcial properties that Kolob is described as having?
FlackerMan 1 year ago
@FlackerMan This is a nice attempt at a strawman argument creating a premise as though it is church doctrine, and then assuming to know the interpretation of the facsimile. Very clever, however, not clever enough. What you are attempting to state is the following:
the sun [is said] to borrow its light from Kolob through the medium of Kae-e-vanrash, which is the grand Key, or, in other words, the governing power (Abraham Fac 2,Fig 5).
(cont.)
M424Filmcast 1 year ago
@FlackerMan (cont.) while astrophysics has shown that “The Sun shines ... because of thermonuclear fusion. It does not get its light from any other star.”
There are many scriptures or statements by the prophets that seem to have scientific implications. Unfortunately, they are never couched in modern scientific terms and their meanings are often very obscure. So it is hard to decide who is more foolish — the faithful saint, who interprets them in a way (cont.)
M424Filmcast 1 year ago
@FlackerMan (cont.)There are many scriptures or statements by the prophets that seem to have scientific implications. Unfortunately, they are never couched in modern scientific terms and their meanings are often very obscure. So it is hard to decide who is more foolish — the faithful saint, who interprets them in a way that forces them into agreement with some current view of science, or the faithless critic, (cont.)
M424Filmcast 1 year ago
@FlackerMan (cont.) who purposely interprets them in a way that is most at odds with current scientific thought. The Book of Abraham quote cited in the criticism above has inspired both kinds of nonsense, including the interpretation found on the MormonThink web site. The wording of Joseph Smith’s explanation of Figure 5 in Facsimile 2 of the Book of Abraham is, in fact, very difficult to interpret. Let’s see what some of our options are. (cont.)
M424Filmcast 1 year ago
@FlackerMan First, to “borrow” means to receive with the intention of returning, especially said of a material object or substance. It may also mean to take and adopt as one’s own, especially said of abstractions or ideas, as in “the composer borrowed his harmonic structure from Bach’s Fugue in D Major.” So what does it mean for the sun to “borrow” its light from Kolob? Is light a material or an abstraction? Does the Sun intend to repay the light it borrowed? (cont.)
M424Filmcast 1 year ago
@FlackerMan What, in fact, is meant by 'light' in this context? Doctrine & Covenants 88:7–13, in wording strongly reminiscent of our Book of Abraham quote, states “7 ...this is the light of Christ. As also he is in the sun, and the light of the sun, and the power thereof by which it was made. 8 As also he is in the moon, and is the light of the moon, and the power thereof by which it was made; 9 As also the light of the stars, and the power thereof by which they were made; (cont.)
M424Filmcast 1 year ago
@FlackerMan 10 And the earth also, and the power thereof, even the earth upon which you stand. 11 And the light which shineth, which giveth you light, is through him who enlighteneth your eyes, which is the same light that quickeneth your understandings; 12 Which light proceedeth forth from the presence of God to fill the immensity of space — 13 The light which is in all things, which giveth life to all things, which is the law by which all things are governed, (cont.)
M424Filmcast 1 year ago
@FlackerMan (cont.) even the power of God who sitteth upon his throne, who is in the bosom of eternity, who is in the midst of all things. These verses are clearly NOT talking about electromagnetic radiation. Does anyone have a convincing explanation of what they ARE talking about?
A “medium” can mean a material through which some signal propagates or a means or channel through which something is achieved. What does it mean here? Does it refer to a material or a means? (cont.)
M424Filmcast 1 year ago
@FlackerMan (cont.) What is Kae-e-vanrash? The Book of Abraham says that it is a “grand Key,” or “governing power.” What does that mean? Is Kae-e-vanrash a term for nuclear reactions, gravitation, cosmic rays? Or is it a more spiritual medium such as priesthood or faith, or an organizational structure, or a means used for administrative communications? And, finally, what are we to understand about the nature of Book of Abraham astronomy? (cont.)
M424Filmcast 1 year ago
@FlackerMan (cont.) Is it a revelation from God to Abraham explaining the structure of the universe as it would be seen by the astronomers of our day? Or should we remember that “The Lord said unto me: Abraham, I show these things unto thee before ye go into Egypt, that ye may declare all these words.” Abra. 3:15, so that, as John Gee has suggested ("The Larger Issue"), (cont.)
M424Filmcast 1 year ago
@FlackerMan (cont.) this is simply the teaching that would be easiest for the Egyptians to understand — one that would teach them that Elohim, who dwells near Kolob, rules over than the sun-god, Amen-Re? Until someone can make a convincing case that their interpretation of these things is the only reasonable one, any faith-promoting proof from Abraham’s astronomy is a flimsy house of cards and any faith-destroying attack on some straw-man interpretation is laughable. (cont.)
M424Filmcast 1 year ago
@FlackerMan (cont.) Among the laughable interpretations is the unjustified suggestion that Abraham taught that the photons leaving the surface of the sun originally came from Kolob. So when criticising the Book of Abraham, or the church in general, you would probably do better to understand the scriptures before attempting to make them an issue. And, understand that strawman arguments are easily blown down in the wind.
M424Filmcast 1 year ago
@M424Filmcast So taking the scripture as being literal, taking it at face value, is a straw man argument? I am just going by what the text says. How is that a straw man? The church has not interpreted it the way you have, and they should be the ones to clarify it. Only they have the authority to.
BTW, since when does someone need to interpret what is mean by the light of the sun? When your world view makes you have to change what sunlight means, you might want to re-examine your beliefs.
FlackerMan 1 year ago
@FlackerMan You were not taking the scripture at face value. I am not new to this, and it was obvious you were creating a premise in order to try to prove a point. Would you care to share your sources as to how the church interprets and clarifies it?
In re: the second part of your comment, you need to remember that this scripture like many in the Bible are meant to teach a lesson. I speak of this in the video. Again, this is not doctrinally injurious nor is it central to doctrine.

God lives in the heavens.... the earth is his footstool... and for us, there will be a new heaven and a new earth someday as well. Some folks are SO focused in on certain things that they can not yet comprehend they forget the fate of their own world. At one point, our earth won't even be lit by the sun anymore.
