Beautiful horse but I do not like the way Fappanni horses look so afraid to make a mistake and have their head glued down and behind the bit - what kind of spade bit is he using or what? The horse obviously has a tremendous mind and heart to handle it but I would like him to look like he enjoys it.
@peaceLoveHappines120 I haven't seen many of Fappanni's horses, but I feel like horses with bald face marks always look more worried than others. I think it's the blue eyes, white face combo.
Yeah he doesn't have very good stops. He's supposed to tuck his butt underneath him and slide forward a good ways. But it didn't help that the rider didn't give him much time to speed up for a great stop. Most riders give their horses a longer distance to run and do a sliding stop.
Great horse, Tanja Jenkins and Arno Honstetter have show this year awesome offstring at the Reining by the Bay and the 2010 HIGH ROLLER REINING CLASSIC. Great video are on Youtube don't hesitate to view it.
He could have kicked into those stops a touch harder. I liked his turnarounds though, and his lead changes were timed nicely. I will admit I dislike his stride very much though.
Reining is a super-cool sport and I hope to do more of it myself...but the one thing I can't stand is to see all the rein-hefting, leg-flapping, saddle-shifting, readjusting that the riders do. Maybe I'm just a fool who doesn't understand you need to do all those things on the back of a reiner, but I just think it's so ugly! Seems like, if you have a pretty horse with pretty training, your riding should be a little prettier than that! :P
A lot of that shifting is because you are doing things a little higher speed and its easy for the saddle to get a little of balance. So we shift it back into place because it'd be a little silly to leave yourself sitting sideways. The rein shifting is because western reins are pretty long, and when you spin a horse its so easy for them to get stuck in places. All the readjusting you see is to put yourself centre again, otherwise it can throw off everything.
A lot of the readjusting is because these horses are so talented and so athletic. During a spin, your saddle's going to move just due to force. And as far as excessive cueing, the really good ones don't need it. Watch Shawn Flarida's ride on Wimpys Little Step from 2002. He barely lifts his hand or taps his leg on his horse.
klind1msn- I worked at Green Valley Ranch where Spook stands and he isn't deaf but some of his foals are and that is a very common trait of the Gunners. Its also not that hes too tall most of the reiners are over 15 hands. His problem is that hes over at the knees and very flat kneed which is why his movement is "funny" however, you want your horse to be flat kneed.

his problem is he is too tall and he cant bend his legs enough to cross over in the spins and lift them up at the lope. My mare has the same problem. The best reiners are under 15.1 hands, generally the smaller the more athletic.
i agree with smithysmate . the horse messed up more than i expected but did a wonderful run above all. he got 3rd at the derby? that gives me more confidence when i go lol
They should make a breyer model of him
