  • Nice vibrato, you use it a bit too much for my taste, however.

  • A me fa un po' schifo. Ciao.

  • Thiiis iis amazing soonng love you !!!

  • @albaniagirl13 Thanks!

  • Great playing of course. Do you have any tips, exercises to improve dynamics on the flute (especially changing dynamics while keeping same tone/intonation)?

Do you breath through your nose or mouth?

  • how do you get that sort of shacky sound on the notes you have to hold out. im in band camp and im serounded by people who get this shacky sound out of their flute. i get SO jelious.

  • @XRandomProductionz It is called vibrato. Do a youtube search for Nina Perlove vibrato and you'll see my video where I talk about it.

  • ...un pò di calore emotivo, umano, interpretativo? no?

  • whoaw you are really good! i'm a 6th grade flutist that plays high school stuff. i practice 3-4 hours a day. any tips??

  • Hi nina, you're awesome!!!

Hey you want watch my videos and evaluate mi performance? thanks

  • i love the flute sound i play the flute and i love it when i do i juts wish i had stuck to it in school

  • Nice vibrato!

  • you play very nice ... always when I watch such good flautists I want to play my flute. But I've bought the cheapest crap and the flute limits my playing time - after 1h or similar there is too much water in the keys and I am able to play only 4 notes. Then I can practice only the breathing ;p

  • you are one of my favorite flute players!!! how much do you practice each day? how long do you recomend for a ver advanced 8th grader to practice daily?

  • @Msflutenerd302 how much you need to practice depends on your goals. Whenever you practice it needs to be quality practice time with good listening and concentration.

  • ur awesome

  • flawless...el maestro would be pleased...few understand what he meant when he wrote. You do.

  • Nina, you are an amazing flute player! I have a question I'd love for you to answer!

Have you been in a marching band for high school or college before? I'm wondering what your advice would be for playing vabrato with a group like a full flute section. Should vabrato be completely controlled? I have a problem with wanting to play vabrato most of the time and I get scolded for it.

I've been playing flute for six years and plan on doing it for a long time now. :)

  • @FoReal100 Yes,I played in marching band in high school and in symphonic bands for many years. You should be able to vary your vibrato depending on the mood and phrase, sometimes fast, heavy, slow or sometimes none.

  • @ninaflute Thank you for your advice! I appreciate it :)

  • realmente maravilloso

  • too much vibrato and "wrong" notes for me - wrong notes are notes that are out of tune and not good on the ear. How do you practise playing in tune?

Perhaps you can make a video on playing in tune?

  • @flappichappi As Violin player, I know a wrong note when I hear one. I didn't hear any and I am impressed by the vibrato. Will you put up a video of your own, demonstrating this music using the correct notes and method?

  • @flappichappi I agree, did you notice Nina uses her cheeks for her vibrato? I"m not exactly sure what all the hype is about. I just started using this computer format and every time I want to hear flute music, this lady comes up. Its really starting to pursued me into the realm of posting videos on youtube. I think people deserve to experience true, from the inside interpretations. One the other hand, my self-promoting skills are no where on par with hers, so that could become a problem.

    gracias

  • Excelente!

  • Ms. Perlove, there is nothing that can be said after hearing you play this piece.

It makes my eyes swell with tears. Thank you!!

  • You are very emotional, sensitive. You feel music and play professional. (how much i understand) I like your look and hair style :-)))

  • Brava, Nina! Great interpretation! Best from Buenos Aires,

  • I have to agree with some of the other commenters here and tell you Nina to hold your flute up! My oh my! Proper Posture improves breathing, embouchure and sound! I always learned the importance of looking up and standing straight with the flute tilted only slightly and it really made the difference!

  • pretty, but not one of your best ones. the vibrato kinda bothered me a little; it seemed just a tad too fast (unless it's supposed to be like that) and it seems like you're blowing into your flute differently than you normally do, like your cheeks are more inflated. almost like you're about to blow up a balloon. other than that it was okay.

  • Complimenti, molto brava!

  • very free and passional interpretation of the piece, i like it

  • what flute is this?

  • @soopsje it is a 14K gold Sankyo flute

  • @ninaflute Can I touch it? (HA sorry, I couldn't resist.)

  • I don't agree. This work is supposed to be a tango étude, but, it has to be performed with at least a minimal tango taste. i.e., articulation, phrases. Sometimes there are bandoneon quotes, motifs. It's a sad piece, nostalgic (typical character on tango). Anyway, keep up the good work!

  • @diegomartinperez1

Appreciate your comments very much. I'm trying to determine what an "at least minimal tango taste" should be. I know - go to Argentina and find out! To me, it should have elements of fast-slow, simulations of a bandoneon (quick fingering runs on flute to simulate the speed of a that instrument) and, well, a certain "attitude" that is not Mozart, or Bach, or Rampal, but typifies Latin passionateness. Also, it has elements of pure space (silences) - to be used artfully.

  • Wow!

  • i don't understand why everyone always says your supposed to hold the flute completely straight, yet she looks like she's holding a broom handle and makes the most beautiful sound...

and holy frig, she must have super lungs or something. she barely breathes at all.

  • The "straight and level" is taught by flute teachers because it makes novice players sit upright with good body form. Also, in a band environment it gives a good impression if evryone is holding the flute in the same manner. Do you need to hold that way to play beautifully...NO, but leave it to those who have played for a longer time.

  • @moliver45 She absolutely breathes! But she breathes like a singer, without breaking the phrase. Just sing everything you play, and you too can do this!

  • @cervantespianista I agree! I wish that flute players would get that we should all be singing through our flutes. On the other hand, some of us can't sing without flutes. I suppose that with enough work one could become a virtuoso, but they would lack the essence, in my oppinion, of what a flute is all about. Created in our early history for the purpose of playing to loved ones or giving thanks and praise to those we worshiped. The only change since then is keys have been added on some.

  • @moliver45 Her tone is beautiful but notice how holding her flute tipped requires her to move her mouth sideways to get her embouchure straight over the mouthpiece. Holding your flute tipped can also lead to neck problems and that's why they try to teach a good posture. Who wants a constant pain in the neck!

  • @wenoel YES! Every one says, why should she change her playing style,"She sounds bueatiful". Imagine how much more "Bueatiful" she'd sound with proper posture. No matter how great some one becomes, they can ALWAYS become greater. To me, thats our stuborn human nature getting in the way of abtaining those lofty goals that we set for ourselves. I'm pretty sure Nina has them too,and I doubt that they include being the most watched youtube flutist. If so,good, she found her happiness. Not easy to do.

  • @moliver45 Yes Exactly what wenoel says. Holding the flute straight contributes to good posture, which leads to better breathing/better phrasing, which leads to better playing. Its more professional. I use to be like Nina and I had to move my mouth sideways as well, because I slouched my flute. But I've fixed that and found my tone is much better.

  • @Nekokitty74

Problem is, there are ample videos of Galway doing just the opposite - not holding the flute straight out. To me, good posture looks unnatural. I think all flutists should learn how to play the thing standing upside down in a bowl of green jello, as well as the rigid straight-out way. Ian Anderson can play it while jumping up and down and screaming at the top of his lungs. That being said, classical flutists have much to teach the sloppy folk (e.g. jazz people) & vice versa.

  • you must be rich jajaja

well i'm a musician like you but, i'm not very good like you jaja

well i'll practise a lot because i like the flute very much and i love that a lot

    bye

  • you should change your profile nam to Ninjaflute

  • very beautifully done

  • vi super

  • it was if you were dancing with the flute!

    that was beautiful!!!

you make it a pleasure to listen to and watch!

  • Awesome !! feeling.

  • Thank you for this piece. I didn't know Piazzolla and it's a great discovery to me

  • breathtaken.

Gratz Nina and thank you for this

  • Thanks for sharing this beautiful piece of Astor Piazzolla

  • I Love it *__*

  • this is so beautiful ! you are amazing! Thanks for sharing!

  • Dear Nina,

I'm not talking as a concertist (I had to abandon wind instruments after a lung injury in war). But I'm talking as a Piazzolla arranger and as tango composer. I, frankly, have never heart in my whole life such a passionate and vibrant interpretation of Piazzolla's Estudio Numero Cuatro. I'm currently working on an arrangement of "Milonga del Angel" for Flute, Clarinet (or Oboe) and Guitar. Please, let me know whether you want the sheet as a pdf.

  • @mottelelevi yes please email it to me. You can get my email from my website

  • @mottelelevi hey do you think i can get the clarinet part to it???

  • I feel this etude a bit more alive and I didn`t like the vibrato. I don`t know how to describe it, maybe it is really a little too pulsed and it sounds pretentious to me.

Thanks for your videos, they are great, I love them, this just wasn`t my favourite ;)

  • I'd really love to hear this very solo onto a raggy rolling piano arrangement. I've never heart a flute like Nina Perlove's in my live! Tango is passionate and the flute is traditional tango's most feminine voice. Brava Nina!

  • i agree, but this could be partly due to the acoustics, forcing her to have a hard focused sound as opposed to a more open free sound

  • about 2 months ago. i'm getting more into the jethro tull/greg pattillo sound for myself mostly. depending on my mood, i'll start doing something that is very introspective and debussian.

I've been sharpening up my sight reading skillz so i can just look at something like syrinx or this complicated etude for example, and start right away.

with all these free cheap iphone apps i'd say i'm rather on my way. pip pip cheerio. oh and don't worry about my lungs, i use a vaporizer dawg!

  • Dude! i was stoned while i watched this and i could totally tell all the nuances and controlled brilliance she put into that technical masterpiece.

I'm a traveling flautist who has been playing his flute hours upon hours a day, after doing my second 10 day course at a vipassana meditation free pure dharma giveaway.

  • I enyojed the piece a lot! thanks.

however for this kind of music I would personally use much less vibrato...but off course this is very subjective opinion

  • Beautiful!

  • WOW you went trough the beginning without a breath!!!

    geeeeezz...!! lol.

  • Nina, not only do you play the flute quite well, but you have excellent stage presence, charisma, and your visual settings for your performance are professional. All of your videos are very well done.

    John

  • mes grands respects pour ces délicieux moments!

  • Amazing ... :)

  • Very good. I like it very much.

  • wow you're amazing i just started playing the flute i wanna play as good as you!!!

  • that is the most beautiful sound I have ever heard on flute since I played in an empty room that echoed alot lol

    good job

now I'm late to school cuz I cant stop watching lol

  • I LOVE IT !!!!!!!!!! ....you're amazing. (I'm gonna try the vibrato lessons) It's really hard, but you make it look easy.

  • Yo, that was dope as fuck. Booyah! Mad respect!

  • Mis respetos toca muy bien la felicito

  • This is my favorite of these etudes. I love your sound. I've found that this particular piece works quite well on both alto and bass flute.

  • this is beautiful

  • That is the most beautiful vibrato I have ever heard on any instrument. Well done, Nina.

  • Amazing !

Where can I find the sheetmusic of this pice?

  • That was BEATIFUL ♥

    Thank you Nina. x~*

  • Oh this is lovely, I like it a lot.

I like the candle in the back to, gives it a nice sort of feel, haha.

Where would you be able to find the music for this?

  • You so cool. Hope I'll be half as good as you one day. x)

  • just a question.

What flute are you using here

  • Gibzy93:

I am playing a Sankyo 14K gold flute here.

  • omg, 14k gold, i am violints a i have seen many size of flutes is because of the material, o is there another reason? can u explain me plz

  • Flutes are not a different sze cuz of material. They are just different flutes. "regular" flute, alto flute, ect.

  • I have performed this on both saxophone and flute (though I first approached it on saxophone). You have a really big and beautiful sound but I feel like your vibrato is a little too pulsed. Have you thought about letting it grow as you would with dynamics and the phrase at times? When I performed it on flute I really struggled with varying my vibrato so it never seemed to machine like. I think it is a little easier to do on saxophone. I would love to hear you play this again!

  • I think you are very mistaken. It is very easy to use vibrato on classical saxophone. I think you are also incorrect in saying that I am "dumb" because I suggested Nina explore more vibrato concepts. I think Nina would agree with me that it is a good thing to have varied types of vibrato. You can't play a mozart concerto with the sound you use on the poulenc sonata. I think you should perhaps be a little nicer when you comment to people :)

  • Hey you flute players check out Jane Rutter on Youtube- she studied with Rampal and Marion in Paris and is a friend of Nina's.

  • That was more than amazing...

    meditativo..

  • good

  • holy shit that was awesome

  • really love your tone. I'm from Argentina and I really enjoy your playing. Piazzolla was definitely one of the greatest composers in our country. I just started studing flute a few months ago and I'm hoping to play that piece some time.

    thanks for the inspiration.

  • Excelent Nina|

  • i love the way you play the flute!:) And especially your vibrato and the clear tone.

    Beautifully!=)

  • this is lovely!! I enjoy the Piazzola etudes quite a bit. Have you ever thought of trying this movement out on alto or bass flute? It works very well for both instruments. :-)

  • love ur flute

  • WOW! What sound! I love the way you play your flute! I will never reach your perfection but I did answer your viseo with my very first video ever :).

  • Enchanting

  • great sound

  • Mind blowing!

  • wow. my breathing will never even go half that length.

  • wow i want to be able to play like you in the furure and im going to try..and i love how you can feel the music when you play..i think thats an important part in order to play a piece...

  • How do you feel about Drelinger? I recently invested in one and I love it.

  • Beautyfull!

  • bravo!

Thanks Nina, for this and all your recordings.

    -what a lovely tribute.

  • you touch my heart

  • Unbelievable! A1mazing.

  • wow wow wow! *hand clap* I'm in fantasy land! I'm enchanted! beautiful!

  • lovely playing!! nice vibrato! beautiful low register! :)

  • I know that it doesn't particularly affect the sound but, just performance - wise, it would look better if your flute was a tad higher.

  • Thank you for inspiring me. =)

    I'm not giving up.

  • es increible..

  • Hi I love it when you play your flute because it always soothes me down. and i really like your music too. also, thanks for being one of my friends on youtube.

  • she sounds great and her mouth piece isnt even pulled out. For my flute, you have to pull out the mouth piece or you go sharp.

  • great low register

sometimes i'm in tune in the low register becuz i'm always sharp

and when i AM in tune, i go flat

  • I have a request =)

Along with a piccolo video (Thats right, im waiting.) Id love to hear J.S. BACH's Bourre'e in E Minor. (From the First Suite.. In E Minor)

Im learning it myself, its pretty easy, but I bet you could give it the emotion it needs.

  • omg 2:15 - 2:20 was beautiful! you played this peice wonderfully! its a very simple pice but you play it amazingly! amazing low register too! i too can get good sounds in the low register, hope to see you one day and practice the art of flute with you at the University ^-^! amazing vibrato as well!

  • WOW! I'm blown away!

  • God your low register is so beautiful. Great job Nina.

    -Andrew

  • brava bravissima

  • i like the sound

and the piece it rrrrrrrrrreeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaallly good and you play it greatly

(i wish i could play like you !)

  • I actually like the texture of your sound on this flute a lot more than on your burkart. It is more "frothy" and has a bit more edge.

    I love it :]

  • Nina, is that a candle? why?

And, have you played the bachiana number 6? It is a gooood exercise for the third octave :)

  • I think she's playing on a gold flute... I might be mistaken... but if she is they have beautiful sound in the lower register but the higher the register, the breathier the sound.

for third octave... Try opening up your shoulders a bit more. You can free your air-passages and support your tone better with an upright posture

    Great playing!

  • This is great for inspiration during those tough times. Thank you for uploading these videos.

  • Wonderful! It inspired my 11 year old. She wanted to quit band before she heard you play. She to plays flute as did I .

  • Bravo! The deserved 5 stars!

    Aplausos!!!!

  • magico sonido...gracias jf...cariños que estes bien ..chau.nenita.

  • Awesome ,thanks my friend kodoceos.

Marce.

  • Please send me a link to the sheet music of "Infinity" by James Curnow(I lost my copy).

  • beautiful nina! :)

  • Lovely.

    Sorry for your loss.

  • Very beautiful! Can someone tell me, please, who was Roland? Sorry I don't know.

  • That was simply beautiful and elegant as always, Nina.~

You are person to look up to for a young flute player like myself.

  • For me that's a masterpiece on the flute !

So fluent, so soft & sensitive.

Beautiful, Nina ! Thank you !

  • you get so in to it and it just sounds wonderful!

  • Wow.

    THAT IS SOOOO GOOD!!

I wanna be like that when i grow up!!

    I wanna be a music teacher.... :)

  • awe.... as you always do... you seemed like an angel of music

  • great nina!!! you're amazing like usual .

    Hugs from Romania .

    Alex

  • Nina I think I might've already asked this, but what flutes do you own...? Specifically, which is the one you utilize in this video?

  • In this video I am playing a 14K gold Sankyo Flute with silver keys and mechanism.

  • I notice on other videos you play on silver. How long have you been playing on this flute? I found the transistion to be awkward in terms of response, but the colour pallette was AMAZING. I can really hear a difference in your sound, so i know YOU do. How was the transition?

  • leathercase: I am still getting to know this flute, but the more I explore on it and get used to it the more I am amazed by what it can do, especially in terms of the basic sound and flexibility of color.

  • ninaflute: "i found the transition to be awkward..." This is concerning myself, i just realized you could have mistaken it in regards to you! Sorry!

  • wow! ur really good...!

  • wow sound i know beceuse im in band and play the

    clarinet

  • That was a chilling performance. I was riveted from the first note.
