This was actually a surprisingly good remake on the PC, they actually increased the colors to 256 from the 64 half-bright colors on the AMIGA and even added a few more secrets, but the Turrican sprite with the huge hydrocephalus head, looked lame in my opinion. But what shocked me the most was the AMIGA music which was so accurately reproduced on the Sound Blaster, I never thought this was possible. Still an excellent game and thumbs up to Sun-Project for porting this!
2:36, there is a hidden box to the left of that waterfall
2:45, you can go right there, it leads to a room that looks like a big empty space, however its possible to jump to an opening the other side, there are a number of diamonds that way.
It would appear that they tried to improve the game and wound up taking away the aesthetic that made the game so attractive in the first place! nonetheless it does look interesting and I will have to try it out sometime.
I want to say that the SOUND of this game, is from amiga's version's modules. And i really sure that this is the remake that came out sometime that it could run on PCs with graphics cards. You can tell from the colors at the background sky, at theres no way a 1992 PC version had that colors shades.
Its the newer version that came out much later for PC with gfx cards and sound cards, not from the original company, thats why the sprite of the hero is a different.
It was developed 1995, If i remember it correct. Never ever saw that version (first time here on YouTube), but read about it. So 4 years after the Amiga. and yeah: that`s 1:1 the Amiga-Music
BTW,anyone actually thought about that the PC version of Turrican2 is playable on a NES?
Yeah,an 8bit machine, the PC version is just 8bit and got no advanced effects a NES can't handle.
I don't love Amiga,I just kind of hate how bad the PC machines work compared to how good they could have worked if the makers of the hardware had done a better job,and even more so if the OS makers would have done better too..
Because they've been among the worst for quite a long time now. -.-
Also,I worked with all kinds of comp platforms since the 80's,WORKED,not just fooled around like some kids.
For the record, after getting fed up with how useless the pc systems were back then I simply put an AOS in the PC machine too,and emulated dos and windows with it instead. (Worked faster AND WAY MORE STABLE,than dos+windows did on same PC machine..)
MS is where they are now thanks to propaganda, cheap tricks and some illegal business, they've been up in court quite alot because of that.
tosgem, you could create so-called amigafarms, such could handle way more than anything that could be dished out pc-side,including the one you just mention..
"Jim power is another example of a game running better on a 7.16Mhz Amiga from 1985 than a 33Mhz 486 from 1992."
Do you know how many cores the weakest Amiga got? If you knew then you wouldn't be surprised. :p
Don't come here and try argue btw tosgem, you only prove that you know nothing about this.
this looks really different, I much prefer the look of the amiga version, but I would that was the version I grew up with, the turrican sprite is really weird, the sound seems more or less the same
Kargo, also for the record in 1999 you could get a Pentium 3 @ 600mhz, 133mhz FSB. Common, consumers video cards were TNT2 Ultra's, or Geforce 256's. Specs were 256bit GUP @ 350mhz, 32mb or 64mb of RAM, resolutions of 2048x1536.
This could still run XP, and run an Amiga emulator.
Not even an upgraded Amiga is as powerful or graphically capable as this. The PC passed the Amiga long before 1999.
Oh,great, stupid pc fanboys acting like fools not even noticing that the pc version aint even remotely as advanced as the amiga one,it's more on par with the nintendo one..
(tho even that one is more advanced than this pc version, sorry) =p
Also,it was first at 99 that they started to make pc's that could compare to my A (that I had since end of 80s),and another couple of years before pc's could compare to A-farms. A isn't limited to 32color,but with a flexible palette you'll prefer less.Guessy?
quite a mediocre port. from what i see, there is no turrincan->waterfall collision effect, the "copper" is weak and that poor man has a terribly flat face. Even the guardians have been deformed ... and humanized. If the enemy is called "The Machine" i suppose there's a reason. 10+ for the Idea, 5- for the realization.
typical amiga dreamer. the amiga had some good games, was a capable machine, but in cases like this just admit that the PC version was better. You're delusional if you think it was as good
well that's our opinion. i always thought the sound was way better (especially in a time where most people didn't/couldn't buy a soundcard) and the graphics looked much crisper. there were also some FX that the PC didn't include, such as the water one someone refered. don't get me wrong, i love the PC... i had one too in those days and i used to play commander keen all the time.. and since the amiga's "death" it's always been my gaming platform of election.
Ugh. Looks like a good conversion except for the graphics. Larger palette but not a clue what to do with all those extra colors, so they just redraw it all overly smooooth and it looks stale and dull. The Turrican suit now looking like some idiot in cheap plastic with a bucket on his head.
The cave walls look alright but nah, stick with the Amiga version for the best Turrican II.
Damn right! This PC version mongoloid is a real disgrace. And why´d they make a punk out of the stage boss??? Stick with the original and stop those embarassing remakes!!!
Well, jfyi, I have played the worthless PC-version, although it was about 12-15 years since the last time. As for the c64 version of T1; never played it on an actual c64, only emulated and that can't be considered as real playing.
Turrican 2 PC = Enhanced Amiga version (same, identic game with larger levels and far better graphics, with 60hz smooth scrolling). Only Amiga fanboys neglects this clear evidence. But Amiga fanboys also seriosly thinks that hardware from 1987 can compete with today PCs, so there is no more room to discussion.
More colours does not always mean better graphics. Yes by definition palette wise it looks nicer, but given the 32 colour constraint of the original i guess we "fanboys" just appreciate what could be done within that constraint and even with this extra palette of the PC version, the main sprite design wise looks nowhere near as great as the original.
And no we don't that Amiga hardware from 1987 can compete with today's PC's, again we know that part of why the Demo scene in the early 90's started up was due to the Amiga and we again "appreciate" what can be done "today" with such old hardware up against the massive resources of today's PC's. The comparisons are now leveled not from 1987 hardware but from the 1992 hardware of the AGA chipset of the A1200/4000. Programmers could learn a lot from those Amiga coders.
There is much more to learn frome the "massive" hardware resources of today PC's, that are, sorry to say this, highly sofisticated and polished compared to 1987 or 1992 hardware. I love Commodore computers, I love even vic 20 demos to the core, but i love also todays PC, sorry.
The PC version can run smoothly on a 386 (a CPU born in 1986, one year before Amiga), and has 256 colors instead of 32. It took 5 years to release because developers wants so.
Yes I actually have had a 386 40 mhz, and yes, Turrican 2 PC, with 256 colors, runs smooth on it.
And, also when pc games were limited to EGA, I liked them more than Amiga ones. I dont like the stupid platforms and shmups available for Amiga (and I have played them). PC games were much more interesting.
> Yes I actually have had a 386 40 mhz, and yes, Turrican 2 PC, with 256 colors, runs smooth on it.
Funny, I had a 386DX/40 SVGA in the early 1990s and I remember the so-called "smoothness", yeah except for the hiccups happening each at 1/3 or 1/2 second. In most "smooth" games the frames were not even sync'ed to Vblank.
Not to mention the crackling sound of SB's DA.
> (...) EGA, I liked them more than Amiga ones. (...) PC games were much more interesting.
If you say so... I have almost said I've loved (and played) all Commodore computers (except C16, damn :) ). But, also in the early nineties, when I had only an 80286 with CGA, I ever find PC games fascinating, mature. Sadly, today the trend is inverted and many games, on PC and consoles, are only clones. Fortunately there are several exceptions.
So YES you are right, the Amiga cannot even HOPE to be as powerful as PC's today! But just in case you have not seen this, this demo was done in 2006 by The Black Lotus and its called Starstruck. You have most likely already seen it, but considering it was done on 1992 AGA Amiga hardware, you must admit its VERY impressive. Type this into YouTube.

At least they kept the original soundtrack but they shouldn't have messed with the graphics. Somebody obviously thought they would look better just because they had 256 colours. They were wrong :(
This is 100% pure heresy compared to the Amiga, my eyes and my ears are bleeding!!!

The Amiga version can run on an Amiga 1000 (1985). Even though the Amiga 500 came out two years later, it´s (almost) technical identical.
It tooke PCs 5+ years to catch up. But somehow we all ended up using PCs.
