  • I am a huge SP fan, but JSS has a wonderful voice and does a great job with this, one of my favorite Journey tunes!

  • The drum tracks on the studio version of this song, do not fit the funk/R&B feel that Randy Jackson laid down, and several songs on ROR and the drum production and playing in general was just not on par with what was done on Escape & Frontiers.

Laurie Londin was a country drummer and he was trying to groove with Randy Jackson a very good funk, motown and r&b bass player. I like ROR, but the wrong guy is playing on this song. If smith was already gone, get an r&b/funk drummer for this one

  • It is such a shame that this guy is not better known. If you don't know, check him out in Talisman, Eyes, Yngwie Malmsteen, W.E.T., Soul Sirkus, Axel Rudi Pell (limited amount there), and of course as the main voice of the song Stand Up by the fictional band Steel Dragon. He's got a bunch of great solo stuff too. He's been touring with Trans Siberian Orchestra for the past three years as well.

  • honestly if you listen without thinking of perry, jeff scott soto is great. don't be biased; soto is great. would've liked to hear the future with him!

  • No offense to this front man but it's hard to own a song when it's so engrained In the minds of many, that's mr. Perry's .It's a long journey before Journey can be a new band without SP.

  • As a lifelong fan of Journey, I have accepted Journey in all of its iterations. JSS might not have been a perfect fit, but when all anyone ever does is try to compare all singers to SP, what do you expect?

I like this version of this song. He brought something new, but then again, how dare anyone defy the douche bags that are Jon Cain and Neal Schon. They have done more to harm the legacy of the group than SP.

  • I like it how jeff is the only one moving on stage, the other ones are dead puppets dressed in costumes. Great song. Not like the rock n roll Jeff (talisman) im used too. His voice is perfect here.

  • Pineda wears the same chain. LMAO. Journey sucks. Karaoke band now. That was their last chance to not be a joke. Schon is only on tour to pay for his divorces. Steve Perry laughs at him at the fat ass women who still follow this crap.

  • Schon is a midget and an idiot. The way he trashed Steve Augeri in front of me and his treatment of JSS who saved him and Friga so much money is inexcusable. When they burn out the current karaoke singer 9and they will) what is next?

  • @DoctorDelaware he said what you wanted to hear Ed. He played all you guys that night and you fell for it. LOL LOL

  • he cant get his voice up high like perry or arnel but i think that JSS would have been the best fit for Journey instead of both Arnel and Steve Augeri. Thats my opinion.

  • JEFF SCOTT SOTO: ES DESAFINADO Y LA CANCION EN LA BATERIA NO ES ASI . SÉ QUE ESTA SUPER BIEN PERO COMO LA TOCARO EN ATLANTA FUE LO MEJOR QUE AN HECHO PERO NO SE USTEDES EMBES DE MEJORAR EMPEORAN. Y EL ALBUM REVELATION MEJORARON SEGUN USTEDES LAS CANCIONES PERO DAN ASCO, MEJOR ERAN ANTES. Y NEAL EN LOS SOLOS SIEMPRE HACE LAS MISMAS COSAS, BUENO NO SOY GUITARRISTA PERO IGUAL ESTAN PEORRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

  • Wow..I went to high school with Jeff and he was always a class act and if you listen to his voice and not try to compare....you will see that he has a great talent....maybe it didn't work out with Journey but don't hate because your comparing him to Steve Perry....Steve Rocks and no one can compare to him but Jeff still gae a good show....don't judge about the clothes....Dorks!!

  • He has his own style...not trying to be anyone, just be himself...great voice

  • That AR guy is pretty cool. :-()

  • Ed/AR here. Saw Jeff perform in TSO this evening. Really great stuff. I think Journey had there Sammy Hagar replacement aka VH losing Roth. Do not care for American Idol like clones and Pineda's accent will always bother me - good singer though.

  • Journey messed up by not resigning this talent. His voice is as good if not better than Steve.

  • 今までで一番男っぽいジャーニー。

    生で見たかった。

    残念です。

  • Awesome!!

  • Jeff Scott Soto is so awesome :) I love that song "I'll be waiting" by Talisman with him singing. Love how he puts his own style on this. It's a lot different than Steve Perry but cool. JSS is a rock star no doubt about that:)

  • ..As someone said -Schon & Co. were afraid of becoming the J. Scott Soto backing band !!! This dude got F#CKED over !!! Sure, Arnel Pineda...good singer / nice story,...But JSS should've been given a chance.

  • I agree!!

  • This guy sounds great!

  • What happened to this guy & how did I miss him? He is singing Journey WITHOUT having to try & imitate Perry. Very good. I love Steve, always, but if Journey was to go on without him, it shoulda been with this guy!

  • Jeff Scott Soto is currently touring with the Trans Siberian Orchestra, also the CD from his latest project W.E.T. just got released and is getting amazing reviews. Go to his site and click the W.E.T. button to view his latest video. Audio samples will be added by the weekend.

  • This guy deserves to be famous on his own name not just a replacement. He is a very good singer but his chemistry & vocal formula isn't fitting to hardcore Journey fans..Some can appreciate his style but nothing can beat the "The Voice".

  • @wp1953 The great thing is... he channeled Perry better than any other singer... yet wasn't trying to be an imitation. That's what worked, and why he would have been their best choice. Arnel is great and all, but Soto had "it".

  • If Soto only had the right image for Journey ! he would have been perfect . Because he is a dam good singer .

  • God damn, JSS is the fuckin man!... tho, even if the band didn't want him permenant, I would have loved to have a Journey albm with him singing... would have been EPIC!

  • blaine: I agree, would've loved to hear that album too.

  • I was there, jeff kicked ass on this song. Good job Ed on recording this

  • for all these years i bashed Jeff i come to realize he is a hell of a lot better then the one they have today!!

  • billleeboy - Well duh!! lol...Thanks for sending me this!

  • Jeff is a great singer. Arnel is good and the right fit for Journey. Jeff was not the right fit, but he was the right fit for Soul Sirkus. Neal, Virgel, Marco, and Jeff what a band. I truly enjoyed seeing them in concert. They should have recorded another cd. and toured.

  • your a dumbass if they were any good neal wouldn't have written off 300 grand out of his own pocket and they would have kept jeff for the new sound..I've seen ss play in sf and the crowd like them till during the break jeff started sing journey tunes ...the crowd didn't like it much!

  • You are the only dumbass here on Youtube you piece of shit Jimmmyass. What new sound asswipe??? The new sound was SS, what a fucking dumbass you are. The crowd here in detroit loved SS. They did not like it when Journey came with Jeff in 2006. Jimmmyass you don;t know shit. LMAO

  • exactly the new sound was ss and since they didn't sell shit and neal had to write off a bunch of cash he was afraid the same thing would happen if he let him stay Neal got cold feet for a new sound and went with the puppet route instead!

  • Why are you so stupid???? You are the only puppet here since you repeat the same crap on every post.

  • come on I saw ss at the warfield in sf and when they took a break jeff came out and started singing journey tunes and the fans where wondering what the fuck this isn't a journey show... he was a new sound neal was afraid of that !

  • lupita,i suppost i'm sing for you like a concert in the stadium, you near of me in mexicali, journey should come to mexicali to caribean series ,february 2 to 7

  • Not uncommon for this. Ed Shaughnessy uses a 22" on his left and a 24" on his right.

  • what was the real story , why did JSS leave/fired. I thought he was the second best next to Perry , the guy they have now has NO soul/R&B to his voice at all , he can hit the hight notes and thats about it

  • Jeff did a great job on this one.

  • He sure did...

  • Not a bad singer at all.

Remember kids.......That stuff ain't easy to sing.

  • Very soulful.

  • I think he does a great job and he is really sexy too! However, my heart belongs to Steve.

  • why does the tempo drag on this version?

  • I guess JSS was just too good for these guys and they didn't want a singer to overshadow them.

  • He does a good job but Steve does it better.

  • Does Jeff have his cell phone hooked on his pants right side? LOL

  • no, it's a wireless pack for his in-ear monitors.

  • Yeah, he's pretty incredible.

  • I never liked soto because i guess i never listened to his stuff but after watching this performance he has earned my respect

  • Is this Soto? Man, he's tall and cute too!

  • Good grief! Give Neal, Jon and Ross a blooming chance. They are atleast TRYING to keep our band together. I hope they become BETTER THAN EVER!!!

  • Jeff is definitely the best singer of our time. I saw him back in the mid-eighties writing history with Yngwie Malmsteen and last week I went to see him live in Germany and I can tell you he's still an amazing singer and the best frontman I've ever seen!

Non-believers should check out his Queen stuff ...it even impressed Brian May who he's good friends with ever since. This man can sing everything!

    Rock on bro!

  • The guys pretty dern good! He's got good range to his voice. But I still prefer Steve Perry. Just a personal preference.

  • This guy is an unbelievable singer. His rendition of Queen material is first rate. How many people can pull off the range of material Jeff sings? From Journey to Queen to "Stand Up and Shout". And people are writing about his t-shirt??????

  • Just because you like the tight red leather pants that Augeri wore doesn't mean Soto's outfit isn't cool as hell. It's just that your taste sucks.

  • The whole point is, he is not Steve Perry. I don't want a rip off of Perry, I want a guy who can do the songs justice, with respect and bring his own style while being a great singer and frontman. That is what Soto brought to the shows.

  • My thoughts exactly dietrich. He does the songs in his own vioice instead of trying to be someone's clone.

  • i have to agree with curtisclark but thats not just the only problem with the guy, he has no style to the song he sings it the way steve perry did in the rasied on radio concert, atleast the one thats realeased on youtube, ect. but he sounds nothing like perry, hell he sounds absolutly nothing like him, hes not even in the right octave, nevermind pitch, its way to deep a voice for journey

  • gogon2: he isn't supposed to sound like Perry, only Perry can do that. JSS has his own style and it's very good. He's the best thing that's happened to Journey since Perry...

  • The way he is dressed is a disgrace. Blue jeans, t shirt and a chain wallet? Give me a break!!! You're singing in Journey Bro, have a little more class and dress up a little. Sharing the stage with those guys should be an honor and they deserve more respect.

Jeff is a great singer but there is a reason he only gets booty calls from bands.

  • What are you talking about man? Jeff looks great in this outfit!

It's not the eighties anymore, nowadays only faggots and transvestites wear cheesy silk shirts and leather pants.

BTW, every single night Jeff got "advised" by Journey's stylists... whether you like it or not.

  • Ha ha! You tell 'em, Lex!

  • I agree with the others. Its not the 80s anymore. Metallica got alot of flack when they cut their hair relatively short. I dont understand why. Honestly, how many people wear hair down past their shoulders anymore?

If you want to be that much of a purist about Journey and how they dress, maybe they sould still dress as they did back in the 70s when they first started with poofy white guy afros and disco outfits.

    hahaha

  • curtisclark13 ..JSS could stand there in a diaper and he would still be a GOD!! What he wears has nothing to do with his awesome voice! He has more style then any of the other members....and class!!

    Journey deserves respect?? My ass!!

  • Hi beakys!! i agree with you 1000%. as u know i love journey...but people being so narrow minded critical and judgmental damn near takes away from the enjoyment of the music. Clark's an idiot.

  • beakys: Exactly, you said it perfectly.

  • curtis u made ur comment awhile ago but i still wanna respond.theres nothng wrong w/ JSS's clothes,do u remember journey wearing tight ass jeans & head bands & shit?who do u think they r Sinatra & Dean Martin?Should he be in a suit & tie?Journeys a rock group, however u look at it,whoevers lead singer & what hes wearing's totally appropriate.maybe u wanted to see him in the tuxedo tails like SP used to do.then every1 wouldve been screamin what a phony, copycat, imitation he was & more. chillout.

  • @curtisclark13

Was this guy Jeff before Steve Augieri, or, before Arnel? I have to say he did not fit in with the look, he was in my personal oppinion dressed more suitable for a heavy metal concert, however, his voice is fenominal.

  • @curtisclark13 The clothing has very little to do with his vocals. JSS is class and a front man who can own the crowd.

  • Jeff does an excellent job singing this song. Quit being so critical people! I'd like to see you guys sing this song and see how well you would do.

  • you're so right, I'd like to see any of them sing this...

  • Jeff does an excellent job singing this song. He's not Steve Perry so people shouldn't critisize him if he doesn't sound like him. Jeff's version of this song like I said before his excellent!!

  • When are all u idiots gonna quit comparing him to steve perry of course he isnt steve perry there is only one steve perry but I will also remind you all that there was a Journey before steve perry JSS is a great performer I saw him with Journey and he did great with them too bad there won't be a journey album with him

  • I honestly didn't know Jeff had it in him to sing stuff like this, after being used to hear him sing the early Yngwie Malmsteen albums....

This version of my fave Journey song is ok, I much prefer Steve's voice, but Jeff is a more versatile singer than I thought.

  • that is jeff scott soto

  • who the fuck is this gang bang signing dude?? He can sing but hes not Steve WTF

  • nah, i like steve better

  • Gee wonder where that video orignated from? LOL. Glad you liked it!

  • Soto is very good, with an great voice

Hes no Steve Perry... BUT thats a given, Perry was unique with a truly incredible gift, that cant be easily replaced.............with that said...WHAT THE HELL is wrong with Journey? If they are waiting to apologize to Steve and take him back I can understand...but thats not going to happen..

    they should have kept Soto

  • Jeff scott soto is well done singer but he can't reach perry's voice ni matter what he'll do!

  • Hate to say this, but Jeff Scott Soto was fired from Journey for some strange reason.

  • I wanted to post a link but that's apparently not allowed here.

Type this separateways.blogspot in google. That should take you to some explanation about Jeff's dismissal. From here on... F**K Journey!

  • That's what I say! F**K Journey and I'm a looooooooong time fan! What the F**K are they thinking!!!?

  • i think its safe to say this is neal's band

remember steve perry didnt have a say when he was cut

  • Journey is Neal Schon's band, but Steve Perry had a lot of power in the 80's, firing both Ross Valory and Steve Smith. His departure from the band ended the commercial success of Journey and subsequently caused the band to break up. Finally, Steve Smith left Journey after they decided to go on without Perry in 1998, citing that it just wasn't Journey without him.

  • Steve wasn't FIRED from Journey... his voice went and was told never to sing again ...Jeff wasn't fired from Journey either!! he was a casual singer just to fill in while they found someone else....

  • actually i saw a documentary on vh1 - it said steve had hip surgery and couldnt tour - the band wanted to go on tour and thats why the got a different singer

  • bs!

  • he was actually fired he wasnt just a fill in.. dont write something if you have no idea what ure talking about..

  • I totally agree, he is an AMAZING singer. too bad journey let him go. all these poeple keep writing shit about him. he is great

  • I'm still pissed ........

  • dang, schon is short

  • JSS definitely puts his soulful spin on this song and breathes new life into it. He rules!

  • This and "Sender Her my love" are pretty easy vocals. they're not that challenging. 'sounds good though

  • Soto is certainly one of the best rocksingers of all time! just so sharp with the notes.. he's voice has always been good live, and he sounds simply awesome!

  • Soto, amazing as always!!!

  • well...other than Dimebag Darrel

  • Wow. Amazing.

As much as I liked SA, Jeff just seems to fit better, and has more of a dynamic voice. I never got that "perfect fit" feeling with Augeri, as talented as he is. Here's hoping that Journey can rise to the top again *raises glass*

  • neal is hot and very talented! I do not like soto at all augeri was good I saw them live a few years ago.

  • forgot to say not even hendrix could have played a bettter solo

  • thats 'cause hendrix really wasn't that good of a guitar player as far as raw ability. neal schon is GOD. NO one else plays with more raw emotion, feeling, and talent than neal.

  • "one else plays with more raw emotion, feeling, and talent than neal"

Steve Vai anyone? As much as I like Neal, he's no where near the emotion that Vai exudes.

  • i remember jeff with yngwie - he sounded like dio

  • Great sounding even though it is a boot, can't wait to hear new Journey material with JSS...

JSS is gonna bring Journey back to where they belong!

  • Soto looks cute... But Steve is the "King of Cute" and he's the best singer for this song.

  • He's a good singer, but his voice doesn't have the glide that that either Steve has. His voice is a little thicker than either of there's, but that's not to say he's not a good singer. His style is just considerably different.

  • Smart move by the Journey guys tapping JSS to come aboard full time. I always thought Soto would have also made an awesome choice for Van Halen too.

  • Its about time Jeff Scott Soto got a shot at the big time! He is the best singer most people have never heard of. Awesome perfomer and a great fit with Journey material. His vocal style casts a whole new light on Journey's music.

  • it's still not as good as STEVE PERRY but much better than Steve Augeri, So is Jeff their new lead singer or what

  • yea he is. journey released the official statement on their site 2 days ago

  • Great performance as usual from the man, looking forward to seeing the band in Cardiff when they come to the UK next March.

  • excellent i like so much journey and scott is good , in 2006 is dificult listen somebody like steve perry , but we try.... anyway we w'll not be alright without steve 100%

  • excellent journey 10 and jeff 8

  • Me too, Jeff's always been a great guy. In fact, I just told him that he's exactly the same man he was when I first met him 22 years ago. Killer pipes!!

  • Jeff Scott Soto is one of the nicest guys I've met and a true talent!
