When computer technology advances enough, I'm so going to make that entire song the voice password to my super-secret files. Then anyone trying to hack it will feel like a complete idiot, and I can post their pitiful attempts on future YouTube.
I'm 33 and yes we did have it good back then. Chapi and Chapi happened to cross my mind this morning. I need to tell my brother I found this vid. Either that or make this a ringtone.
i LOVED Pinwheel. I miss it in so may ways. I am 35 ( dont look it at all) . this is when you could leave your kid in front of a tv and no brain damage would be done.. seriously, we had it good.
Shows like this gave us such a window into a world of wonderful animation styles. today that type of diversity seems forced and obligated. Back then, it was a wonderful treat.
Pinwheel truly was a marvelous children's show. It's wonderful the way it introduced all of us who grew up with it to these charming and excellent cartoons from around the world. It really deserves more attention than it gets.
I am 33, and I used to love watching Pinwheel! I wish it was on dvd so I could share it with my daughter. I didn't watch it as often as I liked, cause my older and extremely selfish brother always snatched the remote from me and turned it to WWF wrestling. I HATE wrestling, probably due to this early childhood memory.
this is amazing!!! i havent seen this in over 25 years! i thought this footage was lost forever. thank you so much for posting - it really brings back memories of being a kid
Oh wow. I'm 38 now but I remember this. My little sister was permanently glued to Nickelodeon in the mid 80's. YouTube can be scary, dredging up your past.
my god, I thought I hallucinated this too. I still remember every note and flourish of this weird-ass theme song, whatever it was shady subliminal message that's embedded in our brains now, it was really effective!!
WOW!!!! I'm 34 and this brings back so many memories from the 80's, loved watching Pinwheel on Nickelodeon, and I always looked forward to the clips of Chapi Chapo :-D
Hell Yea! My twin and I LOVED this. We watched Pinwheel on NIckelodeon as a child.l Why did Nickelodeon leave Canada???? Best shows ion Nick were when it was Canadian run in my opinion.
Oh yes! I was the red one and she was the blue one LOL
I'm still searching for the Nickelodeon bit with the chickens made out of metal; They flapped around the moon eating nuts and bolts. Obviously eastern block stuff-- very weird sparse sounds of them '(clucking)'? Spacey!
I could never understand what they were saying. Its kinda like listening to a promo by the ultimate warrior. I dont understand anything but i like it for some reason. Is pinwheel on dvd? I could and say its for my kids... But its really for me. Lol
They're actually talking nonsense, using French-sounding syllables. (Mystery solved! :-P) The only word that actually sounds real is "Chapo" or "Chapeau" in French, which means "Hat".
@navyman4 I just turned 29! Wow you were 10 in 82? I was 1. I grew up watching this, dange mouse, remeber "Thames"haha? How about cities of gold, and that other wacked out cartoon show where zues lives in outerspace with that tina turner looking chick?
@sz42781 You must be the only person in the world that watched all these cartoons also. I used to think the THAMES logo was some sort of spaceship. Turns out it's the Big Ben clock mirrored image. Wow.
@sz42781 Me too. nickelodeon has so forgotten it's roots, but blame Viacom for that since they are the parent company. Now it's all about horrible animation, uninteresting shows, and frankly not even worth the time to watch. BTW, you practically quoted a song the the cartoon series Jem. "All's Right With The World."
@navyman4 OH MY GOD.......SHUT UP AND GET OUT OF TOWN..........lol. i was living in St. Croix (virgin island) when those shows used to come on and you couldn't tell me nuffin when they came on like they were soap operas for kids.....lmao!!! i can't remember what age i was when i first started watching these. but if i was watching these back in '82, i was 4 years old and didn't stop watching them until i was 8. and haven't watched them since.........*cries*
@TT1478 ..LOL. You and me both! Hearing this little intro gets me a little choked up too. I don't know why? I'm a 38yr old Ex Naval Officer. I've been around the world and done big things; however, this little jingle reminds me of a simpler time. A time when I'd turn off my Atari and TRS-80 Color Computer 2, watch this while I built X-Wings with my Lego set......*sigh*
I can't believe I finally found this, my kid sister & I still talk about this little cartoon. Cool and funny original nickelodeon, ahead of it's time.
Thanks for posting. Every time I tried to describe this to people about the two kids dancing in big hats...peeps looked at me like I was crazy. LOL. I love this!!!
It was named "Chapi Chapo" as a play-on-words with the French word, chapeaux, which means "hats". Both of the main characters wore oversized hats that matched their clothing. In the theme song they say, in French:
"Guess who is Chapi.
Guess who is Chapo.
Who of us is Chapi, Chapo.
That is entirely in red Chapi.
The blue is Chapo.
But we are like twins..." (rough translation)
So, the one in red is Chapi and the one in blue is Chapo.

i been just browsing thru all kinds of shows from my childhood and i almost forgot about this one, yet a other one i almost forgot about, i so miss the nick of the 80s
Thank you! I had forgotten the names of these creatures, but I totally remember watching them in 1983. Does anyone remember a show on Nickelodeon called The Third Eye or the Tomorrow People?!?!?
YESSSSS!! The Tomorrow People was the show watched RELIGIOUSLY! when I got home from school!! John and Elizabeth were the teenage bosses, so to speak. And what was the name of the computer that was their guide? I remember they used to "jaunt" as their way of porting from place to place. I think it came out on DVD not too long ago!! I also seem to remember them trying to make a newer version in the late 80s or early 90s that didn't work out too well. It all seems so cheesy looking back, LOL!!!
WOW!!!! This brings back incredible memories. I must thank all the Pinwheel shows for giving me the creativity I have today. Some of the other cartoons I remember are Mole In Outer Space, Emily, Simon In The Land Of Chalk Drawings,Hatty Town, Round About??
I can't find any videos of Emily! I loved that cartoon. Was Round About the one where the kid would go see his grandparents, and then he'd sit in the top of a tree?

Oh. My. God. I can't believe I saw this on here! I tried singing this song to a friend of mine and I just got a horrified look. It seems I was the only one who grew up watching Pinwheel religiously. Very cool - I'm assuming you mean the old theme song (well, old for me - the one that it opened up with in the '80s). Either way, new or old, I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one who likes theme songs for children's TV.
That was great! One of those images I locked away in a drawer in my mind, and it was let loose again. Though wasn't this just the beginning of a longer cartoon segment?
