  • Mush to ring duma do duma da=Much too drink dumb I do dumb I die!:P Ya heard it from me first :)!

  • I happen to take delight in the drinking, the roving, the gambling and the smoking. Also the juice of the barley and courting pretty fair maids in the morning bright and early. What's that say about me?

  • @Botulizard It says somebody wrote this song just for you.

  • I have lost count of the number of songs I have listened to you sing, and your voice is excellent.

  • @OathkeeperRyu Thanks. I'm glad you are enjoying my channel.

  • what kind of paint did you use for that wall?

  • I noticed when singers get to the chorus, the clapping reminds me of chopping. It reminds me of other songs from the same time period in USA. I remember a song with a lyric "Roll the cotton down". Singing helped get the work done. Does anyone know if this was associated with harvesting barley?

  • great job........

    from tx

  • mush a ring dum a do dum a da!

  • Really good synchronization. And I think out of all the performances Ive heard (The Dubliners, Metallica, and thin Lizzy, this is the way I think it was supposed to be heard as I have said in a previous post on another song. And the backstory provided with most of your works is really cool too. I was just wondering if you have a cover of By the rising of the moon? It's one my favs

  • @VerickII You can find it here: watch?v=qrhmRG5QtoY

If you are looking for particular songs I might have done, you can check my website. The link is in the information box above. Just click on "My Folk Songs" and you'll find all my songs there.

  • (in my own opinion)This song isn't the same without the traditional Irish accent and also metallica's version it is alot harder to listen to and understand the words with all the unneeded extra guitars and the drums as the traditional Irish accent and the correct words is the only part needed for this folk song to be amazing. (accoustic string intruments don't hurt it any though)

  • a fine old song sung well very lively

  • Im not criticizing your original version, its your heritage, Im just saying Im morefamiliar with the Metallica version. No offense intended. Im Irish.

  • No offense taken. I think it's great that Metallica has made great songs like this accessible to a new generation.

  • not exactly James Hetfield

  • This was a traditional folk song, sung something like this, a long time before the heavy metal version came along.

  • I wish i was irish D:

Haha, i just learned this song for the mandolin, excellent singing and playing.

  • I wish I was Australian.

    Hey, I am Australian!

Just as well Australians are allowed to sing Irish songs!

  • awesome job guys, good harmonies

  • Thanks for dropping in.

  • Great job you guys!

  • You found it! Thanks for the request. :-)

  • This is it. This is the one that turned me into a folkie. My best friend was having a highwayman obsession and dug up this song and forced me to listen to it. At first I didn't like it, because I could never understand the chorus. Needless to say, that changed. Then I moved on to Black Velvet Band, which led to the Dubliners , which led to the wide world of folk music in general.

  • So does that mean you do understand the chorus now? Please explain it to me.

I really got into folk music through hearing Joan Baez when her first album came out, but then I had a friend at school who introduced me to Pete Seeger and The Weavers, and I never looked back.

  • No, I don't, but it isn't meant to be understood! :D Pete Seeger is someone I just recently discovered actually, but he's awesome.

  • Great job! not many people appreciate this song sung like this.

  • I don't know why people are being so rude to you. I guess they don't really know what folk music is all about. I definitely prefer your version to Metallica's, btw. Yours is a lot more fun!

  • Some understand and some don't. Enough people tell me they appreciate my songs, so the negative comments don't bother me. Thanks for commenting.

  • I wrote a play based on this song.

  • more whiskey needed to listen to this

  • I've already replied to this and similar comments in my song "347. YouTube Comments."

  • Listen You dont need to sing To sing irish Music. IF you dont like it dont watch it. How about that.

  • you only have to have a drink in your hand =]

  • es ist ein super song

  • dam good song who ever sings it its just the best!

  • What are all these comparisons about anyway - just enjoy the song people no matter who does it!

  • Roger Whitaker's version is the best. It's also known as Kilgarry Mountain.

  • hahaha yeah iv heard Metallicas version but u relly cant top the original and yeah somepeople are ok at it but sorry this guy aint the best!! and to this "nigelbourke " guy how cant i love music after all i do play it all the time and because of what i said about one guy means i dont love music yeah tht rite ? not! and when the fuk dose shane mcgowan ever say "dis" lol

  • i like it ,sure im 15 but i like folk music that right hannah u heard me this is callum i like folk musis. im going to find the tabs

  • mccanno06 how can you make such a comment. if you love any music you will be open to all versions and shane mcgowan once said to me "" i can,t understand idiots who dis other people for singing other peoples songs " so its show how much you know . I get hours of pleasure listening to Raymond , and i learn new chords and styles...nigel

  • Thanks for the support. Folk music is for everyone to sing and enjoy. It's so negative to say somebody else sings it better so don't bother. Better to appreciate the different interpretations.

  • I've heard the "Pogues" version. This one is far superier. Always go with the `non proffesionals. =Stefan=

  • to *mccanno06*

dude, have you even heard Metallicas version?

    its the best.

  • Who gives a flying feck about shane mcgowan. this song is 400 years old you clueless gimp and has dozens of variants, so stick mcgowans buck toothed face up that gaping orifice you have for an arse, you rude twat.

  • haha thats so cool, sorry i 1st heard this song from metallica but this is pretty cool haha

  • why not folk it up further than peter paul and mary did? Also the harmony? i prob are critiquing too much for just everyday, take that as a compliment

  • This will always be the best version.

  • UUhhh, Metallica, who??? This is old, traditional, folk music. This is what I listen to. And have always listened to. Seems like this "Mettalica" has to steal from the masters. =Stefan=

  • This is pretty nice.

  • This is way better than the Metallica version! Then again, I can't say I've ever been a fan of Metallica, or the way they butchered such an astounding song. Good job guys.

  • Metallicas version is way more better!!!!!

  • grateful deads is the best

  • American Shithead Irelands version will always be the best

  • Wonderfully done!

  • metallica is better

  • This Lizzy is good :o

And I'll see them live this summer!

  • I just checked out Thin Lizzy's version, which, I must admit, I've never heard before. Interesting.

  • GoOoD

  • Not bad at all. Very nice in fact. Good to see videos like this after sifting through hundreds of Metallica and Thin Lizzy pieces of crap.

  • Who indeed? Very nice in any case!
