Yes, fortunately it was. Happily for us, their so called Führer failed here. I'm a German myself, and deeply ashamed about what was possible to happen in the country of my father.
Germans would just freezed to death in all cases just as any other invaders dared to invade Russia. Moscow was lost during Napoleon invasion this is not big deal for Russia really. Not to mention that allies mentioned where only getting their assed kicked at time when Germans invaded Russia. The whole Barbarosa was pointless failure.
While German factories were destroyed day and night that from Soviet union was not even touched. Most of the factories that Soviets had were behind the Ural Mountains. Germany never attacked these facotries. Russia could make their tanks without being attacked.
I am sure 5 million well armed Germans would have taken whole Russia if Uk and USA did not attack Germany.
@KoSoVaAnGeL Exactly. Not to mension that Soviets got support from the western powers and the land lease was more important then they said (see Albert Lorens Russia's Life-Saver). Germans couldnt use their fleets and the divisions from france, italy, germany and scandinavia, because brits and the allies were at the door. Trough allied presence germans couldnt use all manpower to produce weapons. In a 1on1 conftontation against the soviets german wehrmacht would have won.
the Germans carried the last hopes for mankind to Stalingrad since the USSR could not have been defeated in a defensive war. Offensive military operations by the Germans were required to challenge the Soviet plan to Bolshevize the world. If Hitler had first announced the offensive then Stalin would have stacked the front lines with Christian peasants. The strategy of Hitler always aimed to preserve as many lives as possible while Stalin always aimed to throw away as many lives as possible.

are you really sure, that Hitler wanted to save as many lives as possible ??
if that was it, there would had been no battle of stalingrad, no Courland peninsula encirclement. Above all, he wouldn't have needed hitler youth to fight to save Berlin from the Mighty Ivan
They actually had huge stocks of winter clothing in Germany, but they hoped to be finished before the harsh winter months set in. But when they finally reached Moscow, the Germans were over extended and the Soviets started striking back big time. By then there was not enough transport to supply winter clothing because of the need for fuel, food, ammo and other supplies to deal with the Soviet Counter offensive.

Der Genozid an den Deutschen begann mit der Hungerblockade nach dem 1. WK und hält bis heute mit der multiethnischen Überflutung unseres Landes an. WER BEKLAGT DAS???
Poor mislead souls, at least they should have had been prepared and equipped with winter gear by September, they "froze" in their own tanks and foxholes. It didn't work for Napoleon either. Shoulda learned from history!
they didmnt prepare because in their mind they wanted it over within a few months. They almost reached that goal, but winder set in early, and strategic mistakes prolonged it, Hitler had a timid side to him, which cost him the war. Case in point Dunkirk!
@rhodri24 Its not about welfare of soldiers, everyone in the army high command planned a few week long campaign like in Poland or France. Thats why they didnt bother with winter cloths.
@rhodri24...Well Germany was bombed from United Kingdom and USA day and night. If Germany was fighting only vs the Soviet Empire I am sure Germany would have won the war within 5 months. Hitler's army was fighting in all fronts. West the invasion of allies south Germany tried to hold Italy from not fally down. Then also in Africa.
Turn the time back and let only Germany vs Soviet empire fight each other. You will see who wins.
Operation barbarossa was planned to take between 9 and 16 weeks, before the winter set in. Therefore no planning was done for winter clothing. The main reason the germans lost the war against the soviet union, was becouse Hitler(maybe also his generals) underestimated Russias ability to recruit new army's. They simply keept on comming and overwhelmed the german army. Besides that Hitler thought he know better than his generals and made huge mistakes trying to lead the army.
ironic isnt it? a polish compser for a german tragedy. love it. period
