I purchased this album about a year ago, and it was my first time hearing Conor Oberst. The other day, I was looking at the album on itunes, clicked info, and realized i bought this album on Febuary 15. His fucking birthday!
@myquest666420 there's nothing next level about Gojira. hahahahaha they're the shittiest metal band i've ever heard. Gojira has nothing to do with Bright Eyes. Conor's on a completely different level than those guys.
yea there's a day gonna come that the sun will stop burning, also a day where the moon will hit the earth? Also a day where jupiter will get hit by some meteors? etc? so? Ofcourse we humans wouldn't be around in that time since we have greed, lust and power still on our x-mas list. so long suckers
The beauty for me is the way in which the lyrics and the music mesh together into a singular whole. The thoughts themselves might be rather mundane, but there is a large difference between the following two lines:
"The world will end."
"It will all go black."
Oberst's tender delivery of that latter line is exactly what makes the song for me. Atmosphere, this song has it.
One reason why red necks shouldn't run the country. Desert Storm...The War in Iraq. As people die over others fueds and special interest. There are not many wars where special interest isn't involved. What about the Sudan, Rwanda, Burma, Tibet, I could go on forever, there is nothing ro gain for those fucks.
"but what my fathers done, you know it don't mean shit. im not him". yes. so true, it applies to everything, a universal truth is written in every line of his artwork
that was the first song I heard by bright eyes, it was on a mixtape made by a friend....I remember me lying on the floor in the dark and listening to that mixtape, skipping almost every song...and then there came THIS song, I listened to it 10 times in a row because it touched me that much
When I first heard this song it did kinda come close to a revelation. And I still get goosebumps when I listen to it. He has the gift of traducing not only my feelings, but I believe those of a generation into music.
A perfect dissection of the venomous effect religion can have on children. All those lines about being talked down to or needing "discipline". They send chills down my spine; reminds me of sunday school after 9/11 when the vicious vipers of "god" told all of us that the End Times were "upon us". Crazy. I love Conor Oberst
Very crazy. There are some nice religious ideas out there (in almost every major religion), Love Your Neighbor/Enemy for instance, but what you are talking about is ridiculous. That kind of stuff is destroying mankind. Or at least making it ugly.
I will say that he is like Bob Dylan in that his songs are like poetry and perhaps one day we will be studying his lyrics in lit classes. I hope so :)
I am a singer songwriter and many people have compared me to Conor Oberst - he is my favorite songwriter ever and his lyrics inspire me to write all of my songs.
If you are a fan of Conor Oberst's lyrics, please check out my songs - you might be surprised. My newest song "Here We Go Again" is the first video on my channel :) I also have a "Lua" cover.
i completely agree, he even said in an interview, upon be called "the new Bob dylan" that there are worse things i guess. Same league way different intentions
Ugh! Shut up all of you already. Yes, hes stuff is very good but you guys are 2 words away from calling him GOd and starting a cult. I think most are just going with the crowd, its annoying really.
