  • Man sweet Video and ride . Had a few yota's myself all 22r's and where some of my favorite 4x4's. Own a Jeep Wrangler now but still love my Yota's........

  • @vatrucker24471 How does the Wrangler go compared with the Toyotas? Here in Australia they are pretty expensive and not many people offroad them. So I've never been 4WDing with anyone who owns one.

  • @Phizinza My 1999 wrangler goes does better on steep tank traps and inclines due to the shorter wheelbase. but the ride in a Jeep is much harsher than a Toyota. Since the Toys i owned and the jeep I own now have the basic same size motors 2.2 for toy's and 2.5 liter for my jeep power goes to the toy's. But then in about 11 months will not mater since the Jeep is getting a mager engine and drivetrain up grade

  • i got a 87 and i want to put that air in take thing you have on yours were can i fine one an how to put it on

  • @evilcanadian43 In Australia we call them Snorkels. The brand Safari make them along with other brands. You have to cut a whole in the fender and put some screws in to hold it on. It plumbs into the original airbox. Just have to make sure the airbox doesn't have a drain hole in it on the bottom!

  • @Phizinza ok cool thanks man

  • thank you WMG for not letting the horrible music play

  • @YodaPala Haha. Each to their own I suppose. Some people like ABBA, so count yourself lucky it's not that!

  • @YodaPala i agree...would have preferred the noises from the engine myself.

  • how much do lockers run ya and where can u get them?

  • @dwightbackus About $400ea bought from the US, rocky-road com

  • Toyotas lack torque

  • @1Frankenrango

funny because the tundra was top in its class for hp and torque with the 5.7 liter having 381 hp and 401 lb·ft of torque...... but your right , toyotas have no torque, lol

  • @snickerstorino

Oh wait, maybe I should have said they lack low end grunt. Top end torque hauling ass on pavement is a little different from low end in mud. Feel better now? BTW - I know what the numbers crunchers say - we have a bone stock 08 Tundra with the same 5.7L. It tows my Jeep to the trails. But I guess the Tundra got so much power that none was left for the 4Runner, huh? Is that what happened? Now let's see a lowly 4.0 Jeep tackle those obstacles. lol right back at ya, LOL.

  • @1Frankenrango LMAO!!! seriously thats what you consider torque? this is probably the 22r which is a 4 cylinder, maybe a little underpowered but perfect for mountain trails.personally, i like seeing the little rigs built by average guys doing stuff like this.4 runners "power"went into smaller engines becuase thier purpose (just as the earlier trucks) is to trail not haul. Also the guys is spinning his tires, which tells me there is no lack of torque or horsepower, its a lack of traction or grip

  • also i thought id add torque is a measument in ft lbs used to measure force needed to turn or rotate an object, if the object is already rotating torque does not really exsist. sorry no such thing as high end or low end torque, its all torque and its all measured at low end when vehicle is starting to roll load after that momentum and horse power take over.

  • @snickerstorino how do you figure?why when you dyno a car does it show torque the whole way through? do you even know how hp is figured out on a dyno?? this is just a dumb statement obviously there is always torque otherwise it wouldnt turn...

  • I like it better without the crappy background music. I'd rather hear engines roar and tires dig for traction.

  • So where was the Scare?

  • This year _ 4runner does not have a rear lock diff. Are you modify it?

  • sweet jesus WMG sucks ass!

  • And another one of my videos bites the dust...

  • u past the hole+mud, that goog

  • what size tires were you running?

  • They are 35x12.5R15 MTZs

  • ya no front spinning at all...not good

  • tough trucks, weld the front diff b mean as then,

  • Why weld when Powertrax lockers are so cheap? That's what my brother down about a month after this video. Locked it front and rear. Amazing what it could do after that. Its been replaced with a 105series Land Cruiser now which will probably be getting ARB air lockers. So the poor 4Runner sits awaiting to get its engine fixed yet again.

  • need lockerz?

  • Clean

  • damn!! all i really wanted to see what the front plate!! nice pit and nice machine

  • nice unit, brah

  • is this a 22re?? if so where did u get that snorkel?

  • Its a Safari brand snorkel. And no, its a 2L 2.4 litre Diesel. Now it has a turbo

  • One question wouldnt the turbo suck the water in?

  • No, because its plumbed into the snorkel.

  • gotta love that winch

  • this is really cool :)

  • i hope you covered the seat so the didn't shit on it.

  • Great runner and a great vid !!

  • I love early 4runners, I have one myself damn near unstopable. All I did to it was put 33's on it, except it rides like a damn brick. Yours looks to be almost the same as mine, Im guessing 84 tho Ive never seen one my year, it was a test vehicle for the market in 82

  • stupid music

  • Personal opinion. Not relevant to the crowds.

  • lockers n a v8... all u need to get outta that :P

  • Watch the other video, lockers is all that is needed.. V8's are useless when you have turbo diesel

  • is that a 4 banger? or a six?

  • 2.4L 4 cylinder Diesel... It now has a turbo

  • Where was the scare????

    Lame!

  • You can't see it so much in the video, but it actually lifted both left wheels off the ground for a sec. It was at a 34 degree side ways angle. The gauge says to not exceed 30degrees. And with the lift plus 35"s it means it. It was a push on the bullbar from rolling.

  • Guess I had to be there.

    Have fun in the mud!

  • As always videos suck at showing how it really was. Even the ones I have of the jumps at "Loveday", they looked heaps better in the real.

  • Incredibly tough car Hilux. I've got a dual cab, it rusts but still drives like new no matter how bad I treat it.

  • Nice vid. Just one problem, I wanted to see a Subaru climb up that hill, not a Toyota winching up.

  • Search for lesscroft, you'll find a vid of a white wagon doing the same climb only the easier bit. It had a welded rear diff so it made it look pretty easy. My Brumby couldn't do it. But if we took the hard route I really doubt any subaru could of.

  • Thanks. If you lock the front rear and center diffs and fitted 50" tires and gave it a 12" lift i'm sure a subaru could make it the hard way but that would make it a really big handfull on the road. I don't know what the hard way is a a Subaru wit what I mentioned on it could probably tackle anything.

  • you need bfg mudd terrains??? yer er ok? cool vid mate looks like a bit more speed and you would have got that one good job for the winch eh two lockers brill but just a rear one would do it tyre choice seems ok for the day

  • When we came back a month or so later he had two lockers and no problem. See other video.

He runs auto lockers and ended up costing a third what one air locker would of and gives just as much traction.

  • u need bfg muddterrains

  • 35x12.5 on a 4runner not big enough for you? Tyres are nothing without lockers

  • is this a diesel? and hey sometimes winching is better than flopping....I say good call

  • Yes, 2.4 NA Diesel. The 2L motor

  • did well that hills damn steep for a climb comin out of a mudhole like that

  • Actually, I was impressed that it did what it did before it got stuck. I don't think that it was the Toyota's fault, I've seen some pretty tough-looking trucks get stuck in a lot less. By the way, you have good taste in music. I always enjoy the soundtrack to your offroading adventures.

  • Cheers mate.

  • wow im glad i bought a jeep

  • Before commenting on videos please make sure you have video backup on your opinion uploaded to youtube.

  • i don't have to jeeps a supreme when it comes to offroading especially in comparison to a 4runner, ive had experience in both

  • video or its bullshit

  • PhOeNiXpIoLe;I'm glad you bought a Jeep too. To say one is "supreme" over the other is nonsense. Both vehicles side by side with comparable diffs & drivers will perform about the same.

  • PhOeNiX doesnt matter what car u have , if u fail in 4wd experience you will get bogged.

  • Why are the front wheels on the 4runner not spinning when it's trying to get out of the mud hole. Right around 1 min into the video you can see the back wheels spinning out but not the front. Just wondering because I've been looking into 4 wheel drive systems and how they work.

  • I think you'll find that the mud made them slick and with the MPEG encoding it just makes it looks like it isn't turning. 1 of the wheels won't be because he had open diffs then. Now he has locked front and rear diffs so all 4 wheels will spin together no matter what.. Well, unless he breaks something.

  • do winches ever snap if u put them under too much pressure? nice 4runner btw...mine got sold.

  • Yes, although the wire on that winch is rated at 12000lb. Thats like 4 times what the car is easy. So you would have to snatch it pretty hard to break the wire.

  • yeah i figured, but i also was thinkin, if it does come off it might whip back and idk wut lb winch to get 4 my 4runner.

  • Normally the only difference between a 12000lb and a 9000lb is the speed of the gearing. 9000lb is faster. A 9000lb should be quite enough for most times you'll need a winch, unless you a really into comp offroading.

  • no im not too into offroading, its fun n all but i like it better with an ATV cuz i can afford a new one if i break the one i have...but repairs 4 a truck are expensive. But i just want like a 4x4 4runner, then put a brushguard and winch on it, for when im up north (Wisconsin USA) and theres nobody there, if i get stuck i can get myself out.

  • hey i have an 87 at home and it needs a new engine. know of any spare 2.4 liter diesel engines laying around

  • OK man this is a really negative comment, you musnt be a real 4x4 enthusiast so as for the negative JUST be happy that there are 4x4 enthusiasts out there that have a great time doing the stuff, no one else but us crazy mofos will do !!

  • Tell me...What was the "scare"?

  • Kinda hard to see on the video, but at one point the 4runner lifts both left wheels in the air.. Close to rolling over. It was sitting at 35-37 degrees once he stopped.

  • diesel sweet low end grunt

  • Yep.. But the 2.4 lacks a little when you need some revs.

Now this truck has two lockers, it should be easy to do stuff like this with it. We'll see, should be some videos of it now up in a few months.

  • Diesel blows

  • sweet

  • what cycl is it 4 or6

  • Its a 2.4L 4cylinder Diesel, 2L Toyota motor. Hopefully soon to be boosted.

  • Huh? The diesel trucks are pretty cheap here. More then petrol, but not a whole lot

I'd like to see my mate fit 35"s to his GQ Patrol which would not happen without major mods and then attemp to do the same as the runner. Sure the runner has less travel, but it's piss easy to fit huge tyres and head into things a GQ with similar time spent on it would't ever dear too.

Each to there own. My brother doesn't drive the 4runner because it's better, he just likes the look and options it has.

  • Petrol sucks dude.. Diesel all the way.

Looks like you really know what your on about, eh

  • Dirty! Filthy in fact! Looks like you had fun, even if the steaming 4wd looked a little uncomfortable!
