This is very beautiful. I play this piece on the piano, but I could never imagine it would sound so good in a guitar. Perfect arrangement: the music sounds as if it has been composed for the guitar. I think Bach would be surprised and very happy. My sincere congratulations!
@robertchallen I really don't know. I have this piece in a collection called "Little Preludes and Fuguetas", edited and selected by Giuseppe Buonamici. I've just read the introduction written by Buonamici himself, but he said nothing about the lute. He just says that the collection wishes to prepare the students to play the Well Tempered Clavier, by using some easier pieces first, and also says something about tunes and chronology. The music is beautiful, and not easy to memorize.

Do you have any suggestions on first pieces to learn on classical guitar (and a good classical guitar)? I already own a fender rock guitar, but want to pick up classical guitar.
Hi Per-Olov, I admire loads your interpretation!, i'm playing this piece but some people say that the line of the bass should be muted; in the versions i've got willard and koonce both put a silence after two eight-notes.however, I like a larger sound like a pedal on a big church organ; I like how you emphasize the "hide" polifony, I think you can fin 3 voices is it correct to make sometimes larger the eigth-note values? I mean for example, this first line d c# d a c b, make the b a litl larger?
Hi there. Thank you. I am happy you appreciate the hidden polyphony in this. In my fingerings (can be found in my web shop) I take great care about the hidden voices. Too often this is heard as only one line of music but actually there are many. If you by 'larger' mean stronger, I agree totally. THAT is the way to play this. (and many of Bach's pieces).
Thank you for your answers!, this will help a lot on my interpretation; I've just seen your webpage its amazing I think I'm going to order some of your arrangments, and one of your cd's.
Per, what's the guitar rest you are using, is it an Ergo, and are they available in the UK?. Love the recording, but have had to modify your fingering slightly - your hands are a little more mobile than mine!!"
I am sorry for the late reply. i use a GITANO. It is very light, inexpensive and easy to use. Mine is always attached to the guitar. Even in the case. i get them from trekel. de in Germany...
There is no more a beautiful instrument than the guitar and no more exquisit music than that of Johann Sebastian Bach. and again no more heavenly than finding one such as you who can marry the two together so perfectly that to listen to it is like hearing the angels sing. Thank you for this it is truley wonderful. MY love to you and my thanks to your gift,Nicola XXX

I like your fingerings a lot, some of them are the same that I use but quite a few, really add something to the piece... I use the Koonce Solo Lute Works book!
beautifully played, i think Bach is one of the greatest achievements of western civilisation, the most complete and masterful ingenius composer there ever was..

La toma de sonido es muy buena, me gustaria saber con que equipos se ha grabado... el color de la grabacion es fantastico. La interpretación es romántica pero muy disfrutable.
Your tambre and taste in music seem to have an uncanny resemblance to my own... at least from the videos I've seen here on YouTube. If I were to write a movie about this, it would have to be a marriage of 'O brother where art thou' and 'Twins'.... Yep! (side note! I used a metronome for my silent hill video, which is why it appears to have godly timing!) other than that I have never used it! In my opinion it is only a "must" if you have other isntruments to keep up to!
I play the regular guitar. I totally underestimated the sheer difficulty of this peice! I looked up the tabs and it took me so long to even get some parts right. I have to say.. to get a sound like what you are producing takes some serious skills. Its so relaxing and sublime. Keep it up and play with your soul!
This Is One Of The Best Versions Of J.S. Bach's B.W.V. 998 "Prelude" That I've Heard In YouTube,... Congrats Mr. Largo! Another Excellent Performance!
Sir, the more and more I listen to this piece it transforms into an entity that is hauntingly familiar yet unknown. I will gladly purchase this from you.
Beautiful playing - just one thing though, it sounds as though you're you applying reverb. Am I right? I wonder why. With all that wood, it looks as though you'd have a wonderful natural acoustic. I'd love to hear it.
you're such a great classical guitarist.... I'm also a classical guitarist, and it's my dream to be like you someday,. you're interpretations are great.. :)
Wonderful Per, you interpret Bach so well and when you do I turn to my spirit to thank God and workship Him for having you around to make me turn to Him. Thanks
Hey Andante I love your playing and ive been really startin to get into classical. i play alot of modern music which has alternate tuning and was just wondering if everything u play is in standard or alternate tuning. thanks :)
So let me ask you, you have a video which you play a Ramirez A1 1989, how can you compare the sounds from the rest of your other guitars, please be sincere and honest on your response.
Thank you for your question. I prefer this Swiss guitar 100%. The Ramirez is very heavy and 'big'. I never use it anymore. This is perfect for Bach. I sometimes use Ramirez for more 'Spanish' pieces....
I'm learning it now, great piece, the part from 10 to 14, theses 4 measures are, i think the more difficult tu play on the piece (for me). The finger rythm is like 'breaked'.
Thanks for this excellent performance. I 've been listening...and watching your music for a few years now and it looks flawless and of a very high standard. But I wonder, are there any weak points in your abillities to playing the guitar? Are there any technical things you still need to work on...or other things you are not satisfied about?
@Za7a7aZ There always is. When listener heards note perfect music, with great texture using and phrasing he might think like that. However when you ask that from the performer they mostly answer like: "Yeah it was overall pretty good one, but in this place this note was not bright enough and etc..." I think when you are fully satisfied with the piece you are playing, you are not enough educated. However in this case there is not better version, only different.
@Za7a7aZ Well now when u said it... It might look like that I'm the performer of this piece, which is not the case. Or maybe you didn't even thought it that way. I meant it how it commonly works mostly. Kinda tricky when this is not my motherlanguage.
Yes, good sound and very delacite transcription!

Your playing is so fluid and musical! I love it, and the fingering worked great!

Love your recordings. What do you use to mic, record? Studio quality. Other players great but if sound is not there I bail.

Beautiful playing - just one thing though, it sounds as though you're you applying reverb. Am I right? I wonder why. With all that wood, it looks as though you'd have a wonderful natural acoustic. I'd love to hear it.

So let me ask you, you have a video which you play a Ramirez A1 1989, how can you compare the sounds from the rest of your other guitars, please be sincere and honest on your response.

Hola! Que tal?
Thank you for your question. I prefer this Swiss guitar 100%. The Ramirez is very heavy and 'big'. I never use it anymore. This is perfect for Bach. I sometimes use Ramirez for more 'Spanish' pieces....

I'm learning it now, great piece, the part from 10 to 14, theses 4 measures are, i think the more difficult tu play on the piece (for me). The finger rythm is like 'breaked'.
Greats from Belgium.

Hi. As stated on my channel, I use d'addario EJ46.

It's a good piece. Very well played.
I think it would sound a lot better without being so drenched in reverb, though.
Just the honest beauty of the piece, well played, is enough.
All that reverb is like pouring sugar on a nice clean apple.
Good work.

Ah such a sound! I wonder, do you ever play on lute?
logosthedestroyer 1 year ago
Thanks for this excellent performance. I 've been listening...and watching your music for a few years now and it looks flawless and of a very high standard. But I wonder, are there any weak points in your abillities to playing the guitar? Are there any technical things you still need to work on...or other things you are not satisfied about?
Za7a7aZ 1 year ago
@Za7a7aZ There always is. When listener heards note perfect music, with great texture using and phrasing he might think like that. However when you ask that from the performer they mostly answer like: "Yeah it was overall pretty good one, but in this place this note was not bright enough and etc..." I think when you are fully satisfied with the piece you are playing, you are not enough educated. However in this case there is not better version, only different.

@Aul1kki Did I miss something....or do you have a new YT account name?
Za7a7aZ 1 year ago
@Za7a7aZ Well now when u said it... It might look like that I'm the performer of this piece, which is not the case. Or maybe you didn't even thought it that way. I meant it how it commonly works mostly. Kinda tricky when this is not my motherlanguage.
Aul1kki 1 year ago
That's quite lovely. Beautifully played. Thanks for sharing.
