I have watching your videos, and it seems like you may be in relatively close prximity to me- do you live in Omaha or Council Bluffs? Nebraska or Iowa?
great job,ive done this but never had it start to smoke near as quick as you did.i never used a bow as long as yours, but im going to try that, may quicken the process.you have it down to a fine art.
Persistence pays off and all of your video's prove it out. Great example for your viewers. I am getting close to a successful bow drill fire. Maybe tomorrow.
You can drop the glowing ember from the fire board onto a piece of charcloth, if you need a little help in getting the tinder bundle burning. Carefully pour the glowing ember and blow on it to ignite the charcloth.
If you have no charcloth, you can make some charred punk wood. The hot ember will ignite the charred punk wood after you crunch up the punk wood a bit for smaller pieces to ignite. Gently blowing on the ember helps to ignite the charred punk wood. Use very dry and fluffy tinder.
If some one gets lost and thinks they can bild a fire bow to save them selves...they are fooling them selves...learn this at home with good tools and materials... this is not something U can self teach your self quickly while in an emergency! if U practice it ahead of time then U might save your butt.
You are so right, astrialkil. If you can't survive in your own backyard, you won't last a week in the woods even during nice weather.
I learned about flint, steel, and charcloth first then moved up to fire by friction. Never assume you will be in good health, if you get stranded in the woods. Hard to make a fire by friction with a broken arm or a bullet in your back.
Learn how to use flint, steel, and charcloth first to create fire; come back to fire by friction later.
U make this look sooo easy! ive tried this and after 2 hrs i couldnt get even heavy smoke, every thing must be nearly perfect. i tried to use natural sticks, my flat sneaker shoe lace and a half sharp Pakistani made lock back pocket knife, the bow was too short and too brittle, flat shoe laces twist up and didn't towork, the spindle wasn't straight enough and splintered . the base board wasn't cut properly. cant remember what i used for the rotator cup, I hear shot glasses work good.
at 3:18 it looks like hes smoking :)

You do make it look easy!

It looks so easy when a skilled fire maker lights a fire yet so hard to do it on your own. Nice video.
