I saw almost everything that Joss did (Firefly is awesome) and I have to say my confidence in him in the Avengers is about 93/100. Just because it is a big film to do, and things can go wrong. But from all I've heard so far, He's got my vote.

Watching the Firefly special features Whedon actually says that while he made Buffy and Angel, Firefly was the one thing he'd had as his ultimate goal, his magnum opus... And Fox cancelled it. I nearly cried. So the Miss Dushku convinces him to do Dollhouse and Fox says alright we won't fuck with you, we're sorry, you got 5 years promised for this show... Got ya, after the first season; oh, but at least this time will let you tie things up with season 2, but you're still cancelled. Sadness...

You HAVE to watch Firefly because it's amazing. Although the TV show ends, they wrap everything up in the follow up movie, Serenity. @Glanternification1 Dollhouse was directed and written by Whedon, but it was Eliza Dushku's show, hence the reason it was so "girly". Fox approached HER and told her they wanted her in a new show, and she took that to Whedon.
Also, love how you completely ignored Angel, which was a mostly male show and honestly beat Buffy to the ground in terms of an overarching story.

Joss Whedon is officially directing the Avengers movie!!! I am SOOO LOOKING FORWARD TO IT!!! Granted, I've not been aware of the comics, but after creating so many brilliant shows, writing movies and directing Serenity-- I mean, come oaan, SERENITY!!! So after all that, the Avengers will have a feel that will surpass anything we've seen in movies so far.
I'm kinda hoping if he does direct, he doesn't hire from his stable of actors. With the exception of the Firefly cast, none of his actors he's worked with in the past could pull off playing an Avenger character. Especially Sarah Michelle Gellar. Alright, my two cents, in regards to this are simple....it worries me. Now before i hear a fan rant let me explain. 1) When Joss starts a project he always starts falling back on people he's worked with, and that can be rough if we get a Sarah Michelle - Wasp. As it is, we have a Nathan - Antman which i can manage. 2) His comicbook writing is hit or miss, he came up with a Giant, Magic Space Bullet. That was the dumbest thing ever. I'm hoping this flies and does well, but we'll see.

First thing first, what the hell does Twilight universe have to do with Marvel (except maybe Spider-Man reboot, than again it is going to suck anyway)?
Second, I only watch a few of Weddon's work; and I think just watching a few episodes of Buffy and the movie Firefly is enough to tell how the Avenger movie will turn out, pretty good. As long as he use villians like Masters of Evil, Kang, or maybe Ultron as long as its not plot device from the Ultimates series (I hate that crap of a series).
I'm willing to guarantee that Joss is gonna completely ruin The Avengers. Their are tons of ALREADY WRITTEN story lines to follow for the Avenger. i have never been dissapointed by anyting joss has done so i think he is the perfect choice for the avengers. Joss has always been my favorite director/writer and Robert Downey Jr. is my favorite actor so this is like heaven for me. I love Firefly. A Joss whedon project is always something Id be interested in whether I end up loving it or not. His comic book work alone should prove he's an acceptable candidate for a franchise movie. Im still skeptical but a whole lot less since I first heard bout the Avengers movie. Full of twists and mystery and big ass fights and great characters portrayed brilliantly. So what i'm sayin is he has the credentials for the Avengers, X-men being a group story as well and he pulled it of with flair and epicness. It's just so weird that the studios are finally listening to what the fans want
Firefly is by far the best example of awesome that has ever existed. I just showed the whole series and Serenity to a group of my friends...their lives have improved at least %300.

Firefly is wonderful, creative, beautiful and timeless. Plus it's cowboys in space... and Nathan Fillion is hawt. Yeah, 'hawt' he's too sexy for 'O's.
I totally agree, particularly when I heard that Joss would have some script control (ie he could punch up the dialogue and make sure the plot isn't totally hackneyed and predictable).

Love Joss Whedon, and I totally agree, his strength lies in creating these amazing ensembles. Firefly being the greatest example, but all his other shows prove that, too. Character development is everything. No other show could have taken Cordelia (Buffy/Angel flashback), this stuck up princess, and turned her into not only a witty, well-rounded person, but someone who was worth rooting for. Go Joss!

I never thought about it but Whedon is actually the only guy that could probably pull this off and do it real justice. The fact that he wrote Astonising X-Men, created Firefly and Serenity and can take an ensemble of characters and make them work makes him superior then most suggestions. There are not many directors that are capable of that task!
He might be good if he does the characters right but the movie will be extremly hard to pull off well and would need to take alot of time and i just dont see that happening with joss

I like Whedon, I do... but I just don't think this is his type of movie. You're correct on the part that he does sarcastic, cool, smart, slightly narcissistic characters (AHEM* Iron Man for the win) but I don't think that he can pull off the entire list of characters that will most likely be involved in this movie.
Than again, it's probably going to be written by the current crappy Avengers writer Brian Michael Bendis, Wheedon will have to step up Bendis' lame, boring, pathetic script.

I think Joss Whedon would do a great job with the Avengers, but I think it'd be better if they got a writer with a better track record. Like you said, Whedon does characters amazingly, but some of his dialogue can be quite bad. Remember the most lame line that Storm says in the X-men movie? (You know which line I'm talking about) Well, Whedon supposedly wrote that :P

I enjoyed firefly and love dr. horribles sing-along blog and most of his other stuff. But I had a problem with the Movie Serenity, it just seemed rushed and under thought. I will say I still loved the movie because I couldn't get enough of the characters. My opinion is that it could be worse, Michael Bay could direct it. I think Joss can really make this film something more then just a cash cow.
@SmurphInc I must respectfully disagree. I never saw Firefly in its original run, but saw a preview of the first few minutes of Serenity and was instantly hooked. I bought that and the Firefly series as soon as I could. Could there have been more? Sure! Joss writes characters with probably years of possible storylines.
If he's in on the scriptwriting, I think it will definitely be an excellent movie that will not only hook Avengers fans, but others as well.

It is my and my friends personal belief that joss whedon should get his own worldwide channel that he and he alone rules over, so he is the only person to decide to cancel a show he starts. I believe that this will be a stepping stone to world peace.

I enjoyed it anyway, I love fantasy films, this is why I wish that someone would bring back "Crying Freeman"!! As a series of movies, not just ONE!! I'm only one person, but that is how I feel.

Joss Whedon is officially directing the Avengers movie!!! I am SOOO LOOKING FORWARD TO IT!!! Granted, I've not been aware of the comics, but after creating so many brilliant shows, writing movies and directing Serenity-- I mean, come oaan, SERENITY!!! So after all that, the Avengers will have a feel that will surpass anything we've seen in movies so far.

I'm kinda hoping if he does direct, he doesn't hire from his stable of actors. With the exception of the Firefly cast, none of his actors he's worked with in the past could pull off playing an Avenger character. Especially Sarah Michelle Gellar. I love his work and I think it has potential. Of course this is all hinged upon whoever is going to write the script and I swear on all that is unholy if they hire M. Night Shama-Ican'twriteadecentscripttosavemy ass I will be pissed.

Alright, my two cents, in regards to this are simple....it worries me. Now before i hear a fan rant let me explain. 1) When Joss starts a project he always starts falling back on people he's worked with, and that can be rough if we get a Sarah Michelle - Wasp. As it is, we have a Nathan - Antman which i can manage. 2) His comicbook writing is hit or miss, he came up with a Giant, Magic Space Bullet. That was the dumbest thing ever. I'm hoping this flies and does well, but we'll see.

First thing first, what the hell does Twilight universe have to do with Marvel (except maybe Spider-Man reboot, than again it is going to suck anyway)?
Second, I only watch a few of Weddon's work; and I think just watching a few episodes of Buffy and the movie Firefly is enough to tell how the Avenger movie will turn out, pretty good. As long as he use villians like Masters of Evil, Kang, or maybe Ultron as long as its not plot device from the Ultimates series (I hate that crap of a series).

I'm willing to guarantee that Joss is gonna completely ruin The Avengers. Their are tons of ALREADY WRITTEN story lines to follow for the Avenger. And even with that watch how he turns it into a cheezy teen drama or something. At least Lucas would have some kick ass effects.(not relative to the movie Kick Ass)

Joss has always been my favorite director/writer and Robert Downey Jr. is my favorite actor so this is like heaven for me. I think that joss and Robert downey jr. are a perfedt match there style will be perfect for each other and i really think that was a big reason why joss was chosen

I love Firefly. A Joss whedon project is always something Id be interested in whether I end up loving it or not. His comic book work alone should prove he's an acceptable candidate for a franchise movie. Im still skeptical but a whole lot less since I first heard bout the Avengers movie. Should be cool still and I hope he does it.

Full of twists and mystery and big ass fights and great characters portrayed brilliantly. So what i'm sayin is he has the credentials for the Avengers, X-men being a group story as well and he pulled it of with flair and epicness. Love Joss Whedon, and I totally agree, his strength lies in creating these amazing ensembles. Firefly being the greatest example, but all his other shows prove that, too. Character development is everything. No other show could have taken Cordelia (Buffy/Angel flashback), this stuck up princess, and turned her into not only a witty, well-rounded person, but someone who was worth rooting for. Go Joss!

Don't worry, Twilight deserves all of the hate in the world. It simultaneously destroys just about every good aspect of cinema it can get it's glittery hands on and still manages to be successful with the shallow draws of over-the-top romance and the attempt at an "epic" vibe that just doesn't belong.

I never thought about it but Whedon is actually the only guy that could probably pull this off and do it real justice. The fact that he wrote Astonising X-Men, created Firefly and Serenity and can take an ensemble of characters and make them work makes him superior then most suggestions. There are not many directors that are capable of that task!

I like Whedon, I do... but I just don't think this is his type of movie. You're correct on the part that he does sarcastic, cool, smart, slightly narcissistic characters (AHEM* Iron Man for the win) but I don't think that he can pull off the entire list of characters that will most likely be involved in this movie.

I think Joss Whedon would do a great job with the Avengers, but I think it'd be better if they got a writer with a better track record. Like you said, Whedon does characters amazingly, but some of his dialogue can be quite bad. Remember the most lame line that Storm says in the X-men movie? (You know which line I'm talking about) Well, Whedon supposedly wrote that :P

Thanks, & I concur wholeheartedly!!Firefly's cancellation dashed my hope in corporate media. Serenity brought it back for a few months. I probably wouldn't have watched Avengers, but w/ Joss @ helm, I'll check it out. He BETTER cast Nathan Fillian somewhere. [He doesn't seem the Cpt. America type; Cap should be more boyscouty or military than Fillian's rogue, so maybe Hawkeye?] And Christina Hendricks is a fave of mine: Scarlet Witch? Ah, well... it's all speculation, anyhow, neh?

I don't know why is everyone so into Firefly. My friend gave me the first 5 episodes or so, and I just deleted all of them are watching like 30 minutes... Cowboys + space = Not cool. Definitely not.
Everyone seems to like the "feeling" of Firefly but I would rather say THAT is the only thing that needs to be changed.

I enjoyed firefly and love dr. horribles sing-along blog and most of his other stuff. But I had a problem with the Movie Serenity, it just seemed rushed and under thought. I will say I still loved the movie because I couldn't get enough of the characters. My opinion is that it could be worse, Michael Bay could direct it. I think Joss can really make this film something more then just a cash cow.

@SmurphInc I must respectfully disagree. I never saw Firefly in its original run, but saw a preview of the first few minutes of Serenity and was instantly hooked. I bought that and the Firefly series as soon as I could. Could there have been more? Sure! Joss writes characters with probably years of possible storylines.
If he's in on the scriptwriting, I think it will definitely be an excellent movie that will not only hook Avengers fans, but others as well.

Now the only problem with Josh directing the Avengers movie is that he has had bad luck in the past, which I have trouble understanding why. But anyways I agree, I would love to see him direct it.
