  • I like this song just fine!!

  • heard this the other day for the first time cant believe ive lived the last 5 years not knowing this song

  • nice

  • This animation is super legit.

  • Im 18 and this is one of my favourite songs ever!

  • kind of whack

  • WOW!, sometimes you stumble upon the most wonderful things, in life which makes it worth while. this is some kind of song, some kind of band, those that feel indi music is ddead haven't heard this band. its seathing, hard edged almost trumatic in its delivery.

  • That is some fucked up shit. I watched it when i was high and couldnt stop laughing.

  • @ThePotatomonster69 same shit, bro! Weed FTW!

  • The different in audio level is consistently annoying in the beginning, its too large of a difference.

  • better than the other song i heard by them. It's pretty good. don't like the video though.

  • i was listening to this song with a couple of friends then they called it and me emo for it why do we have to label everything its such a downer

  • this is: REALLY.GOOD.ART!!!

  • Putting the epic in " fucking epic!!!!"

  • Love the video (reminds me of someone's style) . . . been a fan of the band since i saw 'em live a few years back.

  • sado-maschoism

  • One point in my life in a song.

  • Wow.. So nice song.. Love it..

  • In an interview I watched, WIll Sheff spoke of how this was actually a happy song. Can't see how, but okay.

  • Breaking your habit naughty women benaughtyman.info

  • Comment removed

  • that was weird but cool at the same time

  • WTF

  • 必殺の一曲ですね私はこれでファンになりました

  • Wonderful ;)

  • i just heard this a few weeks ago in a game called Saints Row 2, i love this song... i do.

  • @randomgrrlnex2u hell yahhhh! saints row bitches (;

  • absolutely the best band in the world. mmmf.

  • Best band in the entire world?

    I think so.

  • good

  • lightning in a bottle, this song is

  • i love this song

  • The drawings are almost identical with Antoine de Saint Exupéry's for the Little Prince... i can see parallels between em two as well.

  • watching this made my night, i love finding out theres videos to some of my favorite songs

  • this song is from which album??? i want to download its audio version

  • From "Black Sheep Boy".

  • Still amazing. didn't like stage names or stand ins half as much...

  • This is one of the best songs I've heard in a very long time! I love his voice. I love it!

  • Can't describe how good this song is!!

  • jaysus when the bass kicks in, gives me goosebumps every bloody time...can't see myself ever getting sick of this song...

  • Yeah...i have seen them in concert and they are kick ass! They are so good! The main singer pointed at me on one of their main songs and I was like what?! lol I have never been pointed at before...in that fashion...it was sweet and wierd as hell at the same time...lol

  • I forgot how brilliant this song was. This band is so so so underestimated. I guess I'm gonna buy all of their cd's.

  • the lead singer is from my school :D

    KUA!!

I think he graduated about 7 years ago :)

    SUCH a fucking good :D

  • me too, i love this one! apparently, i've had the same voice this morning... ;)

  • I'm so happy I found this band.

  • I simply adore this song

  • Beautiful. Haunting. Fantastic.

  • Who did the animation?

    It's very David Firth.

  • Very very David Firth. First thing I thought was Milkman...

Is the official clip for this song?

  • It reminds me a LOT of David Firth's "Sock", Episode 3: "10 different kinds of soup".

  • i was thinking the exact same thing...

  • this is one of the greatest bands, they are so different its amazing. XD

  • favorite song of all time

  • "and nothing quite like the blinding light when the curtains cast aside" Brilliant !!

  • great song :)

  • I can't quite believe how beautiful this song is.

  • that was supposed to be a reply to a previous comment.

  • Props, you lovely bastards.

  • It's funny how every good vid uploaded to youtube turns into a huge discussion..

  • im brand new to okkervil river, what in your opinion is their best album, my buddy says black sheep boy.

  • I don't know if it's their best, but it's definetly my favorite. I recommend the song "Black", on that album.

  • black sheep boy probably. it's definitely their "epic" album. but it depends what you like just check em out

  • Black Sheep Boy is incredible but I think on the whole I prefer The Stage Names. It's hard to compare them directly because the subject matter is so different.

  • I think that "don't fall in love with everyone you see" has some great songs, like 'westfall', 'listening to otis...' and 'okkervil river song'. its almost my favourite just because of those, but black sheep boy is still number one. Especially if you get the additional b-sides.

  • I've been listening to this song a lot lately. I don't know how I haven't found this band earlier!

  • i think we're' twins i was about to type the same thing.

  • i mostly like screamo and metalcore, but my sister showed me this and i like it alot!!! good job

  • then you should probs listen to more indie and shit cuz its better than screamo and metalcore (depending on what you mean by screamo)

  • Not saying indie is bad or metal is good, but you have what we refer to in the medical profession as "an opinion."

  • It's a fact in this case, though, because even though there are some lousy indie bands out there, screamo and metalcore are pretty much uniformly awful.

  • in case you haven't already get the stand ins - it the second half of the stage names and was only released a couple days ago and it's really really sick

  • Very cool song and video... bravo.

  • Fantastic! One of the great living bands!

  • in 5 years ,every weekend,every night,this song make my live.masterpice.

  • Super, die knallt ja von allen Seiten ....

  • eksplozivno !! just great

  • i heard of this band today but never thought they're so good... omg this song is awesome!

    video too

  • if you like okkervil river you should check out our stuff! "straggler bird"

  • awesome.

  • Wow this really does look similar to David Firth's work. Not the exact same...but I was definitely looking to see if he was credited for animation in this video.

  • the more i listen to this song the more i like it... what a good band

  • Possibly the greatest video.

    Cant get enough.

    top notch okkervil river.

only if they were better live

  • I guess I should clear up that the "I heard them in their basement" remark was sarcasm -- something some of you are having a hard time comprehending. It was more of a jab at an 18 year old girl (xplicitglam - 4rlz!) writing a novel on when and how old she was when she heard this song. It just came across as pompous and arrogant.

  • i like the song even more w/ this video. i cant stop watching

  • this song is like one of the best songs ever! love the video too!

  • i love this song, his voice sounds really good!

  • Saw these guys for the first time at Latitude 2008, and this song really stuck in my head. Great song!

  • I agree, what a song! and best is I will see this band, and hopefully hear this lovely song, live tomorrow here in Göteborg, Sweden!

  • omg omg omg!

i love this song... i rememeber the first timei saw this video i was like 15? ....jeez - it was like 1 in the morning in my living room. and i was int he perfect mood to hear this ever since i've been in love! this is really my second time seeing it again

  • no -- not 15. If you are 21 you would have been 18 when you heard this song at the earliest. I on the other hand, heard this song when I was 12 in their basement. And I was all like "this is going to be a hit!"

  • yes 15. i'm 18.

  • "I on the other hand, heard this song when I was 12 in their basement."

My dad can beat up your dad!

    douche.

  • my dick is bigger!

  • The Cartoon is a little bit Emo in style, but who gives a shit.

The song itself has an insanely creepy gothic quality in the lyrics that is nigh perfect.

  • Escuse me the critic, but now everything that doesn't contains motorbikes or naked chicks must be relationed to the infamous Emo style? Isn't art rock more fitting?

  • Whoa there eager Jumpthegun Jim! Perhaps you misread my comment but I had said that the video was a bit emo, and then praised the music immensely. On that note, you must admit how a person of emo mentalities/fashion sense would cling to this video like they do to A nightmare before christmas. Therefor, it's emo.

  • A dark video Emo does not make.

  • ohhhhhhhhh nonsense

  • It's much easier to label music than to listen to it.

  • MUSIC COMES THE FIRST !!!!

  • nice song

  • this track is haunting and gorgeous

    thanks for posting brotha man

    5/5

    ~Brandon

  • didn't know this group but i like this song!!! maybe i go and buy the cd.

  • Look up "Black Celebration" by Depeche Mode. Some parts of that song (the tune, not the lyrics) remind me of this song. I don't why, I guess now that I think about it doesn't really sound the same. It just is similar, a little bit.

  • its not emo dammit all! it has emotion! quit categorizing everything that has some reference to blood or emotions emo! you fools! know what the song is about.

  • seriously like no part of this is emo at all... its like cartoons walking around CALM DOWN

  • @Downtownjack i disagree calling something "emo" shouldnt be bad it is just short for emotion, i like a forms of emotional music, chuck klosterman writes in sex drugs and coco puffs that alt country tops all forms of emo music for its raw desperation. "Emo" shouldnt be considered bad cos of shitty bands like the used or whatever

  • @wasiborn love that book.

  • @Downtownjacyou damn emo

  • @Downtownjack yeah man people need to realize. though this song does make me wanna kill myself.

  • thats so scary

  • What an ass you are.

  • that was like a nightmare and a good dream at the same time which really blew my mind!! kudos to yo ho's!!!.

  • tone is completely different then firth and if you think firth was the first person to have this style of animation you are mistaken

  • That other guy was right, this is a total David Firth rippp off.

  • The first minutes of this song really reminds me of David Firths moives.

    COPYCAT

  • Lol PHOTOSHOPPED

Imitation is the highest form of flattery. And to pull it off well, even better. I mean, you could buy the Kama Sutra but it won't neccessarily do you any good...

  • Love this song, because it makes me smile!! Chill out!! Great music!! Come over to Sheffield.

  • Fuck off all you people trying to label songs. It's immpossible to generalize good music. Good music and bad music are the only two genres! And, only YOU can organize songs into good and bad. It's your opinion...and if your going to bash a song, please give a reason for why you hate a song, and the same for if you like it! People repsect your opinion more if you state a reason rather than just saying "This sux" or "This is gay". And, for the record, this song rocks cuz the lyrics are good.

  • Actually the video to me is kind of wierd. The song is good, but the video was just...scary lol. I didn't like the animation.

  • ditto

  • I could swear it's all symbolism for an abusive father. Then again, anything and everything could be a symbol these days.

  • Oh and I also agree with you about the abusive father thing. Everything is a symbol for other things too. It's like one simple song people can twist and bend to "symbolize" something else.

  • the video is homosexual??? goodness.

  • just kidding it's pretty dope

  • I agree with what you're saying, except for one thing; the quality of music is never ambiguous. How ENJOYABLE a piece of music is is left up to the opinion of the listener, but the important thing is that not EVERYTHING YOU, or I or ANYONE listens to is good; no-one has infallible taste, and it's pretty silly when people pretend they do. So while Blink 182, for example, weren't as godly as some fan girls would have you believe, their music was still generally a lot of fun and enjoyed by many.

  • Yeah...we are both right. :)

Blink 182 really isn't that bad. Of course it's not the best either. But I guess nothing is really "the best".

  • guys lets not get caught up on titles and labels just enjoy the absolute beuty of this song cause its one of the most decriptive amazing juyst spectacular songs ever honestly i can personally can get so much meaning out of it its crazy i love LOVE LOVE LOVEEEEEEEEE this song ha

but if u are calling it emo just cause of the first opening line of tonighti thirsh for real blood from real knives or tonight the blood from real cuts feels real nice whn its really mmine that doesn't make it emo =)

  • indie isn't a genre. you can't describe a band's sound as "signed to an independent label" because that doesn't mean shit. people just label anything that sounds different or progressive to what they hear on mtv indie because they're wannabe hipster douchbags. just like people used to label anything that had to do with emotions emo, which is pretty much all music anyway. the blakes are considered indie, tokyo police club is considered indie, this is indie, yet none of them sound at ALL similar.

  • its true, i reckon too many don't know the real definition of 'indie'.

  • You are fucking dumb, break your fingers please so you can no longer type such stupid shit ever again, thanks.

  • yeah.

o and tokyo police club fucking rock

  • But they are listened to by the same audience. Stop trying to make some kind of stupid labeling revolution, just listen to the bands and appreciate it.

  • Come to England. A sold out night at the Sheffield Leadmill will help you forget all these dicks that are trying to "unlock your mind"

  • it's indie, damned.

oh dude, i really hate some of the trends theese days.

If a song is even a little thoughtfully, you find some f****** who think its quite appropiate to call it "emo". That sucks badly. If everything with a little substance in it is emo, fuck off, than i'm "emo"..

  • Me too, considering these circumstances.

  • it's indie/folk my friends ... at it's best, as well.

  • Is this what emo is?

  • more like indie/folk like cascader said

  • i kinda thought of the song as if written by a prisoner on death row, dudes gonna die, and someone knows the truth behind the story, that he's wrongly being put to death, like he was crazy, but he was never crazy enough to kill someone, and now hes being put to death for murdering someone but he didn't. I guess the story only works at the end i could picture someone in an execution chamber staring out at someone in the execution audience knowing they know the truth, but that person never speaks

  • beautiful and haunting. the song as well as the video.

  • gonna see them live soon

  • just another day in the life of a pedophilic murderer. how you got inside his head i don't want to know.

  • love these guys

  • great.....i love animae vids...more attrative than using live actors....nice...going to see them Saturday the 5th in Dallas...can't wait!....Another awesome AUSTIN band!...yee haw!.....................ZILL

  • this song is fucking amazing.

  • why does music turn him into monster?

  • quality

  • The best album to start with is really their first one, Don't Fall In Love With Everyone You See. It has so many good tracks on it, the epic Westfall, Lady Liberty, Dead Dog Song, Kansas City and even the self titled track.I have listened to them all and find this one their best album.

  • Yeah guy

  • That wasn't the first album. "Stars Too Small To Use" was, shame you can't get it anymore

  • I love this song so much =)

  • i fucking love this song so much.

  • Me too It's crazzzzy AAAA

  • AHHHHHHHHHHHH. YEAAAHHHHH BUDDY

  • Got me too.

  • that was fucking WEIRD. and not quite in a good way.

  • what album is this song on?

  • black sheep boy
