  • the ends of 80s, the glory days of Japan economy

  • What's the song on the soundtrack? Tried to Track ID it, but it seems it's not in their database

  • I actually remember seeing this in the Junior Woodchucks magazine back in 1986 !

  • Oh, we DO appreciate you postin' these. Just got back from 4 years in Japan; been back in the states since Mar 2010, and this video is bringing me back in a biiiiiiiiiiiiiiig way. So much that I wanna go back!

  • It's crazy how advanced Japan looked even way back then.

  • 80s rock because well for of the zelda series

  • i think price of one night stay at capsule hotel hasnt changed ...so around 1980 yen ? I remmenber seeing ad sevral years ago...I have never used it though. you hadnt watch this film for 20 years? wow it must have been surprising when you watched this. its like Urashima taro story...sorry for my poor English...and finally I finish comenting all the japanese films here. Cheers. I will be back soon.

  • Hey, thanks for watching all of my videos. i appreciate it!

  • This is absolutely amazing, how did you preserve the video quality over these 20+ years?

  • The VHS tape that it was recorded on pretty much went unwatched for 20 years! I then had it converted to a digital flle.

  • nice ! moar !

  • that was awesome! I MISS THE 80's!!

  • That's incredible! Are those things still around?

  • Yep, they still are!

    Thanks for watching.

  • Yeah, they're very popular in Japan. And not that cheap as you might think they are. It's mostly about 4000 yens per night which is 40USD so pretty much as for night in coffin ;) You can get a dorm bed for 20USD in Japan so paying twice more for a den is rather abstraction. It's made for businessmans who don't have time and don't want to pay for regular hotel and just have a quick nap before train travel.

Anyway - it's great experience to have a kip in place like this.

  • this videos are ...woow... i like to be there

  • it was a lot of fun!!!

  • TOTALLY 80s! LOL! I spent one month in Japan in '83--I don't miss those toliets ONE BIT :(

  • Never did like them either.

  • LOL!

  • Nice one! I stayed in one once. Good idea for a video.

  • I'm glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for checking it out.

  • Wow! What a good looking man you used to be, back then.LOL

  • 泣 :-{

  • Don't worry. It happens to us all. We are all destined to get older, but you were a handsome boy in your youth.

  • nice vid!

Yeah - I stayed in one a few years back for 3500yen for the night. Only difference was you slept long ways, with your feet at the entrance, instead of sideways.

    looking forward to more :)

  • Thanks for the info. I appreciate you taking the time. Seems like the price in yen hasn't changed much since then.

  • Another enjoyable flashback. Never stayed in one. Interesting.

You wondered about current prices... There is a capsule hotel near the bars I frequent. I'll check the rates next time I am there.

  • yeah, love this new series of videos and I agree with Sam... fantastic editing! love how you put these together, and the footage is great and so unique here on youtube. love it!

  • Thanks Rodger. I really appreciate the feedback.

Hope your transition back has been smooth.

  • Eighties... Wonder if I can dig up any of my photos from my visit in 1986. Eek.

Capsule hotels are still around, though I'm pretty sure they've been overtaken by manga-kissa/internet cafes for crashing until first train.

  • I dug out the original VHS last year and it brought back lots of memories, since I hadn't viewed it in over 15 years. You should make a slide show of your old photos and post it!

  • Dang, didn't know VHS could last that long. I'll see what I can find, thanks for the inspiration.

  • AWESOME!!!!!!!! Thanks for posting this one. I loved it. Capsule hotels are still around and filled with drunken salarymen who are still missin the last trains home :)

Love it man! Can't wait to see some more 1987 vlog style vids :)

  • Glad you liked it. I was afraid it might be like one of those home movies that nobody cares to see except the mom and dad. So I'm glad at least few others can enjoy it.

  • DUDE!!! Your vidz are soooooo friggin awesome! I wish you post more :D

    -Sam

    p.s-your editing is GREAT!

  • Thanks Sam. I have a few more coming, but as you know, they can take some time to edit. So be patient. I'm shooting for 1 a week.

  • capsules are still about the same price as what you paid, but i've stayed in ones as low as 2000 yen a night and as high as 4000 yen a night. still pretty cheap :) same curtains and everything!!

thanks for posting your vids! it's interesting to see how japan has changed (and hasn't...) over the years~

  • Thanks for the info. Interesting to note they are still around and in use.

  • Very cool, I enjoyed how you added the introduction part at the beginning too. I have never been to a capsule hotel. For a second there I thought that was a flat screen tv, eheh, then I noticed it was built in. Enjoyed that very much, look forward to the next installment.

  • By adding the intro, now you can really see how much I've aged (and lost my hair!). Oh well, I've convinced myself that it's a more 'distinguished' look! ;-)

  • eheh, whaddayatalking about, :) you're in your prime! As am I :P

  • Nice. I saw capsule hotels only on TVs and stuff, but this one looks like somewhere inside an sleep train.

  • Your right, it does look like a sleeper car in a train! Thanks for commenting!
