is it just me or did I heard the drivers waiting for the light to turn green started their engines?

Is it typical for people over there to switch their engines off at intersections? I guess it's a great way of saving gas.

I've been to Malaysia 3 times. I never noticed anyone switching off an engine while waiting for a light to change.
