  • Scooter had a good life. I found my Aussie in the desert 3 yrs ago. The coyotes had broken his front leg. Hank was barely alive. I spent some money on ole HANK. He is my super loyal jeep'n, boating adventure dog. Hank is smart and tough ,guessing he is abou 4 yrs old.. He still is not afraid of coyotes. He does stay near me. Aussies are great.

  • Wow, what an amazing story about Hank! Aussies make such great companions, especially when you're active outdoors! My new dog, Rio, is almost 2 now and has taken to the outdoor life like a natural; he loves to Jeep, swim, hike, explore, etc.

  • Scooter was absolutely beautiful. I'm a brand new aussie owner. Our new baby is Comet. He's 13 weeks old today. He blows my mind at how fast he learns!! He is truly a joy. he's already 16.5 lbs as of today's vet vist! Our only problem is dealing wtih his car sickness issues... hopefully we'll get to the bottom of those soon!!!

  • Hi and thanks for writing! Congrats on Comet! How much does he weight now and is his car sickness better? I've been lucky with all three of my aussies..they love(d) being in the car!

  • as of today he weighs 22 lbs he just keeps growing and growing lol. His obedience training is going really well. We've been taking short car trips a couple of blocks to the park at the lake and he's done really well. He's even starting to get excited and jump in the car on his own! Small steps but hopefully as we venture further and further he will continue to be comfortable with it. He absolutely LOVES the lake!

  • What a great tribute to a great dog! Yes, they do enjoy the outdoors and are always up for an adventure.

I've had Aussies for 25 years, and we've all had some great adventures in our times.

I have a 9 month old named Jack now, and I hope he'll be the dog that takes me into my retirement years and travel the country with me.

  • Thanks so much for commenting. I love Aussies. My Rio just turned one. He's got a lot to learn, but he will go camping and offroading for the first time this summer, so he'll learn the ropes fast...they are so darned smart! Do you have videos up of Jack?

  • I do have some fun videos on vimeo(dot) com. I think if you do a search for "Australian Shepherd puppy" on that site, you'll get to them. The longest video is almost a two parter. The first is Jack in his pool, the second half is Jack trying to get Joey to play with him.

Joey, his big brother, will be 12 in August.

We are desert rats and do a lot of camping and hiking in the Anza Borrego Desert State Park.

There is a short video of Jack's first desert trip. He likes ants!

  • mozes: leashes don't belong on mountain dogs. My dogs would think they were being punished if you were to put them on a leash. lol

  • awesome dog. I see that he was off leash some of the vid. Is this usual for the breed? Can they be trusted without the leash?

  • Most definitely. He's a herding dog, he's bred to be off leash.

  • Hi, Scooter is so gorgeous!

I am also getting my first dog this summer, and i plan on it being a aussie!! I am very exited! I was wondering where you got Scooter, and if you think its worth getting a certified "pure bred" or not? any thoughts would be appreciated!

  • Hi, thanks for watching! I got him from a vet in Texas, but it is DEFINITELY worth it to get one from a breeder and to get pure bred, in my opinion. You will receive a health guarantee and the puppy will have been properly socialized. Both Scooter and my aussie before him were scared of other dogs because they were taken from their litter too soon. One had genetic defects that caused his early death at age 6 because the people I brought him from didn't know any better. Keep reading...

  • Scooter was beautiful and seemed like a truly loved and wonderful companion. I know you miss him everyday. I'm getting an aussie this summer and it will be the first dog I've owned on my own! Very excited, can't wait! I can only hope my dog and I have as much fun as you and Scooter appeared to. Do you have any tips? I've never had an aussie.

  • Yes, I do have some tips :) Prepare to be outsmarted on a daily basis! These are highly intelligent dogs...they learn very fast and can understand dozens of words. You will need to challenge him mentally to keep him from getting bored. Ask him to retrieve a toy for you, but call it the blue ball, red ball, or name them different things and he will quickly learn the difference and be able to bring you whatever you specifically asked for. (MORE IN NEXT COMMENT. PLEASE KEEP READING)

  • They want lots of exercise, throw a frisbee or ball for him/her and take them on lots of walks. Don't underestimate how smart these dogs are; create games for them with the anticipation that they will learn quickly, and don't make things too easy or they will get bored. Feed him out of a Buster Cube (get it at PetsMart) so he has to work for his food, they want to be challenged. Buy a Furminator brush (available on amazon) because they shed ALOT and this brush really does the trick.

  • Thankyou for the tips! I'll be checking back here if you ever have anymore!

  • This is beautifull a fitting memorial. I recently lost my friend and its heart wrenching!

  • Sorry to hear about your loss.....you never forget them, that's for sure!

  • I am waiting for a litter of Australian Shepherds to be born this week. We are getting one of the puppies (a female). It will be our first Australian. I can't wait!!!!

  • YAY! You will fall in love! Make some videos once she's home and email me!

  • i salute scooter

  • Yes, it's rough to go through, for sure. Thanks for watching!

  • I got tears in my eyes from watching this video :'(

I have an australian shepherd to, he's almost 2 years young, but I'm already scared cause I realise that ones I have to let hem go :'(

Oh boy, I never wanne lose my Boy

  • it called austrian sheprerd i had one sinc i was 2

  • Hi, it's actually an Australian Shepherd and is commonly referred to as an Aussie.

  • Words are sometimes hard to express when losing a beloved animal. I had an Aussie/Border Collie for 15 years. She was a service dog for my daughter and I. She died peacefully in my arms on Dec.28, of '06. Scooter must have been very special to you too! You know...you never quite get over losing them!

  • Sorry to hear about your loss too. It sure is rough losing our dogs. I'm very grateful I have another Aussie to love but Scooter will never be forgotten.

  • We lost our Aussie, Spanky on Feb 18, 2008. He was a most magical boy, and thank you for sharing Scooter with us. Our female is so lonely, we're looking for another boy. It's tough.

I'm from Aspen, are you? Best Jeannie

  • So sorry to hear about Spanky. I'm not in Aspen, I'm in Colorado Springs. I just got a new Aussie pup in May and the breeder is in New Mexico. He is amazing. Check him out here on You Tube at RockyMountainRio. Again, sorry for your loss...

  • I have an aussie. He's going to be 13 this November. I couldn't imagine losing him....

    RIP Scooter

  • Thank you for your kind thoughts. It was definitely a rough time. I do have a new Aussie, Rio, now. He's 7 months old. But I still miss Scooter and think of him all the time.

  • Scooter was great dog. Amazing memorial you put together.

    Is that you at 3:35?

I have a white Jeep too. Someday soon it will reside in CO with me.

  • No, that's actually my offroading/camping buddy, not me. I prefer to stay behind the lens :)

  • I lost my Aussie on April 21, 2008. He passed away at home in my arms and I understand how it is to loose a dog that never leaves your side for 15 years and for every minute of that time he shows you nothing but unconditional love and respect. I work at home so he was ALWAYS with me. It has been three months and I just can't seem to get over loosing him. I have had animals all my life, but never one like my Aussie (he was a rescue). Thank you for this memorial. The song is so perfect.

  • Thanks for writing. I work at home too so Scooter was literally by my side 24/7 as well. It's rough. I have a new pup now, Rio (rockymountainrio here at You Tube) and he's adorable and I love him but a 15 year relationship is hard to get over. Sorry for your loss.

  • Excellent Video and a very beautiful dog. So sorry for your loss, but you have a great memorial. We all have to go through this kind of things with our pals eventually, and it never gets any easier. I felt my Golden broke the mold when she passed away a couple years ago, so I switched breeds to Aussies. They are excellent dogs, good luck with your new Pup!

  • Thanks for your kind words. Sorry to hear about your Golden. My new pup is doing great, he's gt some videos up under rockymountainrio. Thanks for writing and watching.

  • So sorry for your loss, it is sad because in our lifetime we often outlive a lot of pets. I still miss my Chow Chow and he has been gone 8 years. Lost 2 dogs this year, but now I have an 8 week old black lab and she is so cute she likes to chase the cats around the house. Treasure all those memories and photos, they are never far from our heart.

  • Your pup looked a lot like mine. So sorry for your loss.

  • aww so cute sorry for the loss but, shes still with you in Your heart.☺ good song!

  • i just loved seeing a brief glance of this gorgeous dogs life, you were obviously so close, and in every picture he smiles, so he clearly had a wonderful and happy life thanks to you, God bless, I am gonna go wipe my tears now

  • I cried while watching this video. My aussie was born in July of 94. She is still with us, your video was beautiful.

  • My Mom just bought an Aussie and it's the smartest dog I've ever seen. So sorry for your loss.

  • Thank you, they are indeed super smart. I get my new pup this Sunday, so look for new puppy videos soon.

  • To explain why I think they are super smart is that the puppy is only 2 months and 6 days old and he learned how to sit in only one day and learned how to roll over in only one day. :) I hope your next puppy is just as special but I know that nothing will replace Scooter. I had a dog when I was a kid and I'll never forget her. She was all white and maybe a mix but not sure what. Maybe part Samoyed and Aussie. She was very smart too. She was very special to me just like Scooter is to you.

  • Thanks for telling me about your dog. I'll never forget my childhood dog either. Scooter can never be replaced, but there are good times ahead with my new pup and I'm excited.

  • Amazing friends, dogs are. They'll never leave your side.

Scooter was a beautiful dog, sorry for your loss.

  • He was a beauty. It's been three months and I stil miss him every day.

  • That was a beautiful tribute to Scooter. May he play forever in the fields of heaven.

  • Thanks you :)

  • How wonderful that you have all this great footage! Scooter's sweet, loving energy comes right through the video and photos. I am so sorry for your loss. My heart goes out to you.

  • Thank you :) He was amazing :)

  • What a beautiful Aussie.

He's in heaven now, playing in green grass.

    Thank you.

  • Thank you for watching and commenting :)

  • What a beautiful dog. Scooter reminds me very much of my first red Aussie who was of Colorado breeding. Same joyous expression and sparkling eyes. I'm so sorry to hear Scooter's gone, too. Your tribute reminds me of the line from Ben Hur Lampman's essay, If A Dog Be Well Remembered: "he will come to you when you call - come to you over the grim, dim frontiers of death, and down the well-remembered path, and to your side again."

  • Wow, that's beautiful :) Thanks for sharing that, I've never heard that. Thank you for watching.

  • My thoughts and prayers to you and to yours Scooter looks like a beautiful dog and video. I to have a dog myself so I know the relationship of pet and owner

  • Thanks for your kind words. He was one in a million :)

  • I enjoy your films and sorry about your Scooter. You had a great dog. Thank You for sharing.

  • Thank you so much for watching :)

  • Your memorial to Scooter is beautiful he seemed like an amazing dog. I just rescued a 1 year old Aussie and I love the breed. Unfortunately I live in downtown Boston right now but I've always seen myself moving to the Rockie Mountain area, I think Oz and I would really fit in a lot more out there. Your video showed a beautiful depiction Colorado and it just instilled that feeling in me even more. I'm very sorry for your loss and thank you much for sharing your beautiful video.

  • I loved your tribute to Scooter. What a beautiful Aussie dog! I just recently moved to Colorado and brought Banjo, my rescued Blue Merle Aussie with me to enjoy the vistas of this lovely state. I know the incredible bond between Aussie and their people...I send you my hugs and my prayers - you have shown what a wonderful dog Scooter was and he now waits at the Rainbow Bridge. Thanks for sharing. With love from me and Banjo xxooxx

  • Aww, thanks for posting and I appreciate the well wishes from both you and Banjo! Where in Colorado are you located? Maybe one day, when I have my new pup we can meet and take the dogs for a hike :) Thanks again for writing.

  • I'm in the Denver area (work downtown) - about to move to my own place near Northglenn. I rescued Banjo (via Aussie Rescue in Texas) when she was 18 mos. old, had heartworms, parasites and just about everything else...but she's a fighter and is THE best dog (and I've had Aussies before - both boys and girls). They are fabulous dogs!!! I will always have them! Take care!

  • I've always said that some of the finest people I've ever met have been dogs. And now I feel like I know Scooter, even though we never met. I still grieve all the dogs I've had and lost. They ARE family, and always will be. I know your loss, and you have my sympathy.

  • Thank you. He was such an awesome dog. He's been gone just over a month and I still miss him every day.

  • this is a beautiful tribute to your gorgeous boy! I lost my Aussie of over 13 years recently too, and I know how VERY hard it is. Your tribute is wonderful. And your piece of Colorado looks stunning - I loved seeing Scooter in those wild flowers! How handsome!

  • Oh, I'm sorry to hear you lost your Aussie too. They are hard to get over when you lose them. I will get a puppy in the next few months but I'm not quite ready yet. Scooter and I traveled all over this gorgeous state and he was a great companion on all our adventures :) Thanks for posting.

  • It's really amazing because I just looked at the dates, and it's not all that "recent". It just seems that way. I guess in some cases, 2 years isn't long enough for 13 plus years! It still seems like yesterday. Best of luck with your "next generation". I have my Maggie now and boy, are GIRL Aussies different - LOL! She is so SILLY, can get highly offended at the drop of a hat, and makes me laugh constantly. :-)

  • Aww, I'm glad you got another one. I've only had male Aussies, never a girl. I will definitely get another blue merle male; I've just had such great luck with them. Is yours a merle?

  • sorry to hear of your loss... he was a most handsome dog...

  • Thanks, we always got comments about how cool looking he was :)

  • I'm missing the old boy:(

  • Beautiful tribute to a beautiful dog. I know you miss him as much as I miss my Brutus

  • Thank you. Your's was great too. It's a nice way to pay tribute to our furry sidekicks :) Thanks for watching.

  • You took him to some amazing places and shared the adventure. He certainly enjoyed the good life :) Sorry for your loss.

  • Thanks for watching. He definitely saw the world from a new perspective once we moved to Colorado :)

  • Sorry about your dog. You must have been really attached.
