I've been humming this song since I was a kid in Cinncinnat in the early 80's. I never thought I would ever actually see this commercial again. For some reason, i always remember him saying "try it" instead of "do it". Funny how you remember things.
Oh man, I remember Godfather's. The one I went to was, in the parlance of the day, totally radical. No other tern for it. Totally Radical. Like, there were these tables but they weren't tables They were Pac Man machines. Maaaaan....Pepsi or Barq's and some Godfather's Pizza. They used to play great music in the background and anybody who was ANYBODY had at least one birthday party there.
Now you just have Pizza Hut with ex-cons or people who don't wanna be there working there.
I remember the Godfathers pizza on Austin Hwy and Harry Wurzbach in San Antonio, Texas. They torn that down along with Weiners and now it is an big HEB. The old HEB across the street is "Asian Buffet" and "Goodwill" along with a short strip mall. I guess if Herman Cain gets elected, he might start bringing them back.
We used to have a Godfather's here in Las Cruces, NM. At least until about the mid to late 80s, when they closed down. The location has now become a Mediterranean restaurant.
@chauncymojo I don't think gas station pizza sucks. The Pizza Inn inside Chevron on Hillcroft and 59 South in Houston tastes good to me. I was jumping for joy when they first opened it around 2003. The pizza hut on Bissonett and Fondren never tasted right. Like they were using stale bread. I would have to go to the Pizza Hut on Westheimer near Walnut Bend, or the one on Holcombe for good pizza. The Metro Bus cost me only $52 a year back then.
A couple of years back,I eventually got to eat at the godfather's pizza I know of in Chillicothe OH,and man it was a damn good pizza--that crust! Unfortunately,I just discovered on a return trip that it recently went out of business,it must've been because of that new cici's pizza they placed in one of the plazas.
Ah well,at least I got to try them, and everyone here is right, godfather's is a great pizza. Anyone else here who knows of a godfather's..eat and enjoy em while you can.
You guys don't have Godfather's any more? I'm sure ours is still in town, though I haven't been there in a long time. It really isn't convenient to where I work and shop, though it is the best pizza. Pricey, though. I so need to get one with the golden crust. Hmmm, now I'm hungry and it's bedtime! :(
Godfathers is the shit,I moved from Omaha (home of godfathers) to Denver and there are no Godfathers out here. The closest one is in Cheyanne Wyoming.Denvers pizza options suck.Boujous Pizza is way over rated.
godfather's pizza was the best... nothing better than getting my bake on, then chowing down a whole pie with sausage and onions - nnnnnniiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiicccccccceeee!!!!!!!!!
i worked at Godfathers for 3+ yrs all through high school (class of '97). One slow saturday afternoon my buddy and I did the math and figured it cost about $1.75 to make a Jumbo Pepperoni. (Labor, electricity, food cost) and they sold for $15.99. Wow, talk about profit margins. Especially when we were only making around $4.75/hr. I still wouldn't have traded it for anything tho.
@JMsKidney Because they sold out to Pillsbury in the 1980's and then were forced to use their flour for the pizza crust, which was inferior to what they had used. Sadly even with being divested from Pillsbury, Godfather's never went back to the quality they had prior to the acquisition.
@judanmcgregor When I lived in Omaha (Godfather's headquarters), I got the good fortune to meet Mr. Koll a couple of times. A VERY nice man he was....and very artistic, too!
Heh,neat commercial. I know of at least one Godfather's pizza place, but I don't live there, but eventually i'll come around and try their pizza,it looks good.
That pizza looks GREAT! When it comes to pizza, burgers, etc mom & pop places and small family owned chains totally OWN the big boys in every way.
