Very nice to hear Gerrard/Perry talk about their art. The song of course is superb, even more so in this interpretation.
Cocteau Twins' Elizabeth Fraser ('Aikea Guinea' for me is one of the most beautiful tracks ever made) springs into mind when LG tries to explain why she sings the way that she does: "no time to mess around with words", "the prison of language". The emotion flows straight to the heart, words and sentences are completely superfluous.
I have watched this video about 25 times since yesterday, when I accidentally bumped into it. Used to love "Within..." many years ago, but this version just kills me. I can't think I have ever heard a better vocal performance, live or recorded, it's eerily ecstatic and it covers all the emotions in away I didn't know was possible.
i watch this over and over. If anyone that sees this does not know about Dead Can Dance, they are AMAZING and the documentaries on their music (Brendan Perry and Lisa Gerard) explain how she does not sing in words, in no language but that of her own spirit... so awesome! unworldly, yes
....like a hunting in the woods....u dont know what s hunting u but u r scared...rage and chilling feelings fill me when i hear that .....i feel proud i saw them in 1995 in athens

She's so beautiful in every way. This song absolutely takes my breath away every time I hear it. I had the privilage of seeing them perform live some years ago; nothing like it. Everyone in the audience was frozen and wide-eyed the entire time.
what an enigmatic smile at 1:30, she tilts her head, I wonder what she's thinking. Then all hell breaks loose, like summoning kali! Then at the interview so... poised...

i love dcd... their music... their talent overwhelms me with enlightenment, courage, passion, serenity, and a whirlwind of so many other feelings. its amazing the impact their music haves on me.. sometimes i dont understand it... but i love the "high" (from lack of a better description) it floods me with. everyone should experience dcd!
It's been almost 10 years since DCD broke up and I still mourn. Their work has defined my writing in ways I cannot express. If I had Three wishes . . .
damn!!! i can't come up with any words to express how i feel when i listen to their music...it goes straight to my soul...wait a sec..soulfull..what amazing talent they have!!!
I went to see them live in London 2005. They were very impressive. I then bought one of the official live recordings subsequently produced from that same European tour, although I didn't manage to obtain the London gig that I attended. Nethertheless, I was happy. However, if there is one thing that 'The Toward The Within' sound mixers did particularly well on the 1994 album over the more recent 2005 live albums, is that the percussion is captured impeccably well.
Yeah, I believe I saw them the same year, but in Mexico city, they started their tour in Mexico city, then they moved to Europe... and now the sad thing is that maybe I wont see them again...

So few modern day artists carry such extraordinary talents and the wealth of knowledge as DCD, even beyond the realm of music. Just listen to them speak about literature!
I find the man with that ehrm, round thing on a stick that makes a kind of rattling noise, the man with the tail in his hair very amusing, how he gets into the music, when all he really does is move the round thing in his hand. Nice to watch. And the music is extraordinary.
When I sit at my desk on a daily basis writing the content to my nightly radio show on a rock station...I listen to Dead Can Dance constantly...and toss in a little Cradle Of Filth as well. The fantasy my ears yearn for is Dead Can Dance and Cradle Of Filth combining for an experiment in fusing the haunting and apocalyptic sounds of DCD with the dark metal of COF! That would be AMAZING!!

i love this song, both versions. when i saw this film, 1995 i believe, the theatre audience exploded into cheers at the end of the piece. this version seems to belong on a battlefield. the studio recording, from the realm of a dying sun album, 1987(?), is an emotionally cool hypnotic chant, like a religious hymn.

i love this song, both versions. when i saw this film, 1995 i believe, the theatre audience exploded into cheers at the end of the piece. this version seems to belong on a battlefield. the studio recording, from the realm of a dying sun album, 1987(?), is an emotionally cool hypnotic chant, like a religious hymn.
