fuck ,even gardening and farming is very politicized , let's face it, if you don't have the immigrants in USA farming for US farmers, then prepare your selves to pay $10 for a 12pack tomato box , yeahh it's a fantastic idea to grow your own, but not everyone has the knowledge, space, time, or energy to grow there veg, at least not all year round, immigrants are the backbone of the US farming economy,LIVE AND LET LIVE,
The first garden you where in was cool as you are able to actually see the different soil layers. The "blue ball" tree make me want to get my BB Gun ;) That was funny when the frog got you. It was cool hearing your camera girl laughing.
Most illegal alien mexicans who are in the USA are breaking the laws. What's wrong with using a passport? I guess they don't respect the USA. They just want to make money and send all that money BACK to Mexico. Employers who are hiring these illegal aliens are encouraging more human trafficking. These employers should go to jail. They are breaking the law.
John, wanted to ask you about something I saw in an older video. You use copper flashing to help deter slugs. I have a major slug problem in my area. Do you think that the copper really makes a difference in slug determent? Thanks for all the great videos.
I do not think it has made a significant difference. It did last year.. in theory.. it should work, but I have been picking off slugs lately. try using beer or sluggo.
@growingyourgreens: Don't slugs carry diseases? Some carry parasitic worms which makes wonder if my lettuce is safe to eat. I heard egg shells sprinkle around the plant will scare slugs away. They don't like climbing on sharp materials.
YES. they do. I have not had a problem with disease here. In hawaii (on big island) that have carry rat angiostrongyliasis. So you MUST wash your produce well. I havent had any problems with diseases with slugs/snails. that being said, they do need to be controlled. I smoosh, spear or compost them every chance I get.
@jccole90802 i use adhesive copper tape on all my pots ,slugs hated it, you must keep the copper clean, otherwise it weathers very quicly, and stops working against slugs, my own method :get some rope ,dip it in some cheap glue (pva) mixed with a lot of salt, leave it dry ,then use around your plants, it works ,but both methods don't kill the slugs, to kill them i spray slug killer (liquid) on the entire garden, check your local garden center for non toxic ,veg friendly liquide
omg John, don't get me started on the corrupt corperations. It's not just food hun, they grow corn and soy beans for many other industries. You should watch 'King Corn'. Food Inc is another one to watch.
And I have to ask...what kind of shoes are you wearing and where can I find ME a pair? lol
I saw king corn, fresh, food inc, and many other documentaries such as that. Anyway they are vibram five fingers.(barefoot shoes) I love them. I feel like a kid and "free" when im wearing them. vibramfivefingers. c o m
As long as you still agree to free trade between mexico, usa, and canada. In the winter our province in canada ship in our vegetables from california and mexico. I wish the weather wasnt so bad here. One of these days I will have a farm and have a green house that is heated and has electricity and run it all year (which will be extremly expensive) but it beats paying out 1.20 for one tomatoe that taste like crap.

I saw this place on Victory Garden and have never forgotten it. Just amazing.
I'm kinda dissapointed by their edible garden, to be honest though. Fairly conventional selection of herbs/flowers/veggies.

@ os253 spray neem oil on your plants. bugs would rather starve to death than eat a plant with neem oil on it.

Never thought of that reason to grow my own food. To keep the Mexicans out. I guess I need to build my own houses and cut my own grass too.
Another great video, you really need a contract for HGTV.
