I love the music in Hokuto no Ken, but I'm sorry, I really don't like the original version of this song. This cover of it is far superior in my opinion.
I think that this song is pretty good. A ballad would probably have been better and closer to the original, but the original singers decided to make a techno mix with an orchestra, nothing wrong with that.
This version isn't so bad if you consider a few facts. The vocalist is one of the the original guys who sang the song, and on his parts he doesn't do too bad, but when he gets to Masaki Tanaka's tenor parts, he sounds like he's really straining, for obvious reasons, they guy has always been a bass, plus he's 20+ years older now. I'll agree that the techno is pretty cheesy, but overall its not that bad.
Yeah, I really don't get all the criticism... I mean, if anyone deserves to sing a version of this song... And you can hear the feelings! It's a worthy, passionate update, and it fits Yuria Den just great.
Yeah the Song is cool. Its a new Version of an old song from the fist of the North Star Series 1985. Can't wait to get a Bootleg of Yuria Denetsu with english subtitles in my fingers. I don't understand why there is no official Version released with english sub/dub from the new Movies/OVAs.
Here's the real reason why the new movies were never officially licensed:
Toei Co. won't give out licenses to major anime distributors who are faithful to bringing anime in their original form at the same time giving licenses to hacks like 4Kids that give disrespect to the material and butcher them to get kids to watch when they're not meant for them in the first place.
You're right that Toho is involved in the new anime movies whereas Toei did the TV series and the "new" OVA with Gackt. The only role that Toho has for the new movies is that of distributor. The ones doing the new movies are North Star Pictures headed by Buronson and Tetsuo Hara.

The original song is really good, this new version sucks.
I hate the vocals (that voice is just horrible!) and the techno beat.

You got one thing wrong here! It's Toei who's doing the new anime, it's Toho! Different companies! :p
